           1973 FORD GRAN TORINO SPORT

ONE FLORIDA OWNER - ONE THE ORIGINAL TITLE

Just arrived, this beautiful Gran Torino Sport was purchased by Gary Jordan
from Bill Currie Ford of Tampa, Florida on June 4, 1973. Forty years ago this week!!!

It has lived the entire time in Gary's garage in Tampa.
With the exception of one repaint in the late 1990's, it is original,
unrestored and unmolested. Very desirable model with the Sportsroof
body and the best option, bucket seats and console. Most of these
Torinos of this vintage we bench seat cars...

An older repaint in the correct Bright White in the late 1990's and correct Sport
Laser stripes were reapplied at that time. The paint is still in good condition,
but not perfect. With new dual stage repaint and stripes, this car would pass for new.

The interior of the car is all original including seats, door panels,
and carpets. It is in excellent condition with no signs of wear.

Nice original chrome
and stainless trim. The rear bumper has some chrome flaking.

Equipped with a the original 351 V-8, untouched and running perfectly.
Factory automatic transmission

Factory wheel covers and and newer whitewall
radial tires.

Garage kept, pampered, and serviced, this car could not be nicer.

This car has been refreshed, detailed and ready to drive or show.

Only 96K miles over the last forty years !!!

Nuclear-powered concept cars from the Atomic Age

Thu, 17 Jul 2014

In the 1950s and early 60s, the dawn of nuclear power was supposed to lead to a limitless consumer culture, a world of flying cars and autonomous kitchens all powered by clean energy. In Europe, it offered the then-limping continent a cheap, inexhaustible supply of power after years of rationing and infrastructure damage brought on by two World Wars.
The development of nuclear-powered submarines and ships during the 1940s and 50s led car designers to begin conceptualizing atomic vehicles. Fueled by a consistent reaction, these cars would theoretically produce no harmful byproducts and rarely need to refuel. Combining these vehicles with the new interstate system presented amazing potential for American mobility.
But the fantasy soon faded. There were just too many problems with the realities of nuclear power. For starters, the powerplant would be too small to attain a reaction unless the car contained weapons-grade atomic materials. Doing so would mean every fender-bender could result in a minor nuclear holocaust. Additionally, many of the designers assumed a lightweight shielding material or even forcefields would eventually be invented (they still haven't) to protect passengers from harmful radiation. Analyses of the atomic car concept at the time determined that a 50-ton lead barrier would be necessary to prevent exposure.

Last 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible nets $500k for charity at Barrett-Jackson [w/video]

Tue, 13 Aug 2013

The last 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible was sold on Saturday at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Reno, Nevada, for $500,000. Ford donated the Mustang to be auctioned for charity, and all of the money is going to the Brain Injury Association of America.
Parnelli Jones, winner of the 1963 Indianapolis 500, was there on behalf of the BIAA with his son Page, who suffered a brain injury in a sprint car crash in 1994. The bidding increased quickly, reaching $500k in no time, spreading a bit more hope to people who live with brain injuries.
The winning bidder will be able to choose the GT500's exterior, interior and stripe colors, and is scheduled to receive the car, signed by Parnelli Jones in appreciation for the donation, by the end of 2013. Watch the video below to see the auction-block action.

This is what a 3D-printed liquid metal Ford Torino looks like

Sat, 12 Oct 2013

Artist Ioan Florea has encapsulated a 1971 Ford Torino with 3-D-printed liquid metal transferred onto the car using technology that he developed, and the result is a stunningly shiny, seamless design.
"The surface has the highest coefficient of reflectivity never achieved before," Florea told us in an e-mail, using "nano-materials and nano-pigments that create an internal three-dimensional structure and dictate the polymer how to behave." Sure... We'll leave it to him to make any more 3-D-printed liquid metal-transferred art pieces.
Florea grew up in Romania, and the motivation behind picking the old Ford as his canvas came from his childhood memories of what an American car is - "big and wide and fascinating," he says - and the European name of the car itself, which it shares with an Italian city.
