1973 Gran Torino Sport Fastback. 351C 4V Q code, C6 Transmission, 9 inch rear.

Mileage on the odometer (18176) does not reflect actual mileage, it has probably rolled over at least once.

I purchased this car in 3/2009 from the first owner. The car comes with the original window sticker and owner's manual. Included are the body side moldings, original radio, and the five Magnum 500 rims, (four with old tires on them) and the fifth is in the trunk with a new spare on it. There is also a Procar Pro 90 seat and mounting brackets for two seats still in boxes and a B&M Transpak.

Some of the parts replaced since purchase include:

  • rear brake shoes and rear wheel cylinders
  • radius arm bushing
  • sway bar link kits
  • correct windshield with dark band on bottom
  • seat belts (changed to retractable style in front)
  • headliner
  • carpet
  • steering wheel (Grant)
  • rubber seals for doors, windows, trunk, cowl, rear window
  • window felts
  • stereo and speakers
  • Edelbrock Air Gap manifold
  • Holley 670 Street Avenger
  • Ford Racing chrome valve covers
  • starter
  • fuel sending unit
  • fuel pump
  • rims and tires (BF Goodrich T/A's)
  • A/C compressor and drier (Freon changed to R134-A, needs more work and comes with additional new parts to be installed)
  • front and rear bumpers rechromed by Goodmark

This is not a full restoration show car; it was intended to be a solid daily driver. The car runs well, needs minor work with the A/C, fan and wiper controls. It needs paint work and the seats need recovering.

If you just want a fun, reliable older car or a great starting point for a full restoration, this is it.

This vehicle is being sold as-Is with No Warranty Expressed or Implied.

180,000 new vehicles are sitting, derailed by lack of transport trains

Wed, 21 May 2014

If you're planning on buying a new car in the next month or so, you might want to pick from what's on the lot, because there could be a long wait for new vehicles from the factory. Locomotives continue to be in short supply in North America, and that's causing major delays for automakers trying to move assembled cars.
According to The Detroit News, there are about 180,000 new vehicles waiting to be transported by rail in North America at the moment. In a normal year, it would be about 69,000. The complications have been industry-wide. Toyota, General Motors, Honda and Ford all reported experiencing some delays, and Chrysler recently had hundreds of minivans sitting on the Detroit waterfront waiting to be shipped out.
The problem is twofold for automakers. First, the fracking boom in the Bakken oil field in the Plains and Canada is monopolizing many locomotives. Second, the long, harsh winter is still causing major delays in freight train travel. The bad weather forced trains to slow down and carry less weight, which caused a backup of goods to transport. The auto companies resorted to moving some vehicles by truck, which was a less efficient but necessary option.

Has the 2015 Ford Mustang gained hundreds of pounds?

Sun, 01 Jun 2014

Automakers face competing interests when it comes to developing a new generation of vehicle. On the one hand, companies want to build their cars to be safer and better handling, with more equipment and maybe even larger dimensions over the model it's replacing. On the other hand, they strive to keep weight down to the benefit of both performance and fuel consumption. Usually something has to give, and in the case of the new 2015 Ford Mustang, those efforts may have resulted in a weight penalty of two or three hundred pounds.
This according to Blue Oval modifier Steeda Autosports, which states that "the 2015 Mustang ended up gaining 200-300 pounds in this remake". Despite the Mustang not being on the market yet, it would appear the leading Ford aftermarketer has been given early access to the 2015 model to help jumpstart its tuning efforts (a rather common development among trusted tuners). If Steeda's assertion is accurate, that would make the challenge of getting the new pony car up to speed for both Ford and aftermarket customizers like Steeda that much greater.
We're waiting for official word from Ford on the veracity of Steeda's claim, but if true, it's bound to be a bit of disappointing news for legions of Blue Oval performance enthusiasts. Watch this space for more.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Ford Transit can haul on the track

Tue, 19 Aug 2014

Line up any two comparable vehicles, and eople are going to want to race them. Need proof? In its latest track battle, Auto Express wants to know which commercial vehicle can lap a circuit faster - a Ford Transit or Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Let's face it, neither of these European vans were ever meant to be near the track unless they are delivering a racecar and a ton of parts for a fun weekend, but it's massively fun to watch them give it a go anyway.
The one thing that Auto Express really illustrates here is the modern marvel that is stability control. The driver hops curves, and these big vans lean in the corners like your friend walking home from a long night at the bar. However, because of the amazing stability systems, the vans mostly keep all of their wheels planted and never seem close to getting sloppy, despite their behemoth size.
Unfortunately, the two vans aren't exactly fairly paired. The Ford has a dual rear axle and a few other advantages over the Mercedes, but it's still hilarious to watch them go. Even better, the host breaks down everything happening behind the wheel like these commercial vehicles were two Porsches. Enjoy watching this very unorthodox battle between Ford and Mercedes.
