Up for auction and your viewing pleasure today is Rare & Original 1971 Torino Cobra. This is good looking 'Survivor-Quality' car. The single repaint in the Light Pewter Metallic has a good look and a nice shine with all the 'Patina' you would expect of a 30+ year old repaint. If you want perfect paint, this is not it. If you want a Muscle Car with some survivor street cred, this is it.

This is a very solid Cobra. The floors, frame rails, torque boxes, trunk drop offs, trunk floor, cowl, etc. all look great. The cowl is in excellent condition and does not leak. The trunk stays completely dry as well. Structurally this Cobra is one of the most solid examples available. There is some minor rust in the door corners and at the lower rear wheel wells. All very typical and they look to be confined to small areas. Please see the photos.

Inside the interior presents well. The factory Medium Vermillion is a rare color that really works with the Light Pewter Metallic exterior. The highly desirable bucket seats are in good condition, still comfortable enough for a cruise or whatever. The carpet was replaced some time ago with a black custom kit. There is the normal wear like a crack in the dash and stitching separations in the headliner. The factory in-dash tachometer is a rare option that still works properly.

I just had a new windshield installed. They are rather expensive compared to a Mustang, this one cost $600 to have replaced.

The 351 Cleveland appears to be the original, however there are no VIN stampings I could find on the block in any of the normal areas. The engine runs excellent with nice, quiet valve train. A slight piston noise can sometimes when the engine is cold but it goes away when the engine begins to warm. All of the factory accessories like the shaker with hold down bracket, exhaust manifolds, heat shield, S-tube, dripper valve covers, 4V heads, cast iron intake are there. The only obvious non-factory component is the Edelbrock 4 Barrel carb. The car has excellent power and the engine has excellent manners on the road or in traffic. The C6 automatic has been rebuilt with a shift kit. The shifts are very crisp and it will bark the tires on the 1-2 shift and the 2-3 shift.

The Magnum 500 wheels appear to be the originals. There is the typical pitting and scale, but they look good for 43 year old originals. Larger BF Goodrich Radial tires have been installed with 15" 235 60's in the front and 15" 255 60's in the rear. The larger tires really fill up the wheel wells and give this Muscle Car a more aggressive look.

The factory power disc brakes and power steering work excellent making this a very easy car to drive for drivers of any level.

Full Marti-Report Documentation is pictured and is included with the car.

I am available for questions for 9am to 8pm PACIFIC TIME for questions or to discuss. This car is available locally so I reserve to end the auction at any time.

Thanks, Mike. 425-308-0802

Old vs. new debate gets new life with $25,000 Fiesta ST vs. E46 M3 showdown

Fri, 10 Jan 2014

You know who you are. There's probably a few of you reading; the ones that say, "Why would I spend $27,000 on a new Mazda MX-5 when I could get a used Chevrolet Corvette with more power." Yes, we're talking to you, used car proponents. While it is a fair argument, it's not like used cars don't come with drawbacks of their own, though.
In an attempt to put this new-versus-used argument to bed once and for all, Matt Farah of the The Smoking Tire has picked up a pair of $25,000 cars - a used, but lightly modified, 2003 BMW M3 and a 2013 Ford Fiesta ST. Naturally, there's a comparison.
Farah, as he's wont to do, does get into the nitty gritty of what each car is like to drive, and discusses the merits of used and new-car shopping. But as he rightly points out while testing the M3, "So, it is a good car. But like any used car, it really does depend on the individual car."

Ford confirms Everest SUV production for China

Sat, 19 Apr 2014

According to Ford, the Chinese SUV segment grew by 49 percent in 2013, and the Blue Oval held a 4.5 percent market share. At the 2014 Beijing Motor Show, Ford is showing the Everest SUV that, while just a concept for now, will go into production in the near future.
The Everest is a big, brawny seven-seat SUV that mixes solid, chiseled styling and contemporary Ford design cues. Up front there is an angular version of the trapezoidal grille and sharp, wraparound headlights. The beltline rises in the rear to make the back appear higher than the front. The rear seems just as chiseled, with the taillights resting in jagged scallops. There is no doubt that this concept means to look rugged, and ready for rough roads - the whole thing looks pretty great.
The truck was penned by Ford's Asia Pacific design and engineering team in Australia, and it was first shown in Sydney last year. Ford's JMC joint venture will build the truck for the Chinese market, and it will be sold at Ford dealers there. The Blue Oval isn't hinting at what powers the production version yet, but it reportedly shares some components with the foreign-market Ranger.

Ford cranks up '32 Ford body production

Tue, 14 Jan 2014

If you're going to build your own hot rod, you'll want to start with a '32 Ford 5-Window Coupe. Favored by American servicemen returning from World War II, the '32 Ford remains the very icon of the hot rod to this day. The trouble is there were only so many of them made in the first place, and finding one today can be a challenge. That's where reproduction models come in.
The aftermarket is replete with companies that will sell you a fiberglass body in the form of a '32 Ford coupe, but quality can be hit or miss. So to help meet demand among hot rod builders and enthusiasts, Ford has teamed up with United Pacific Industries to offer officially licensed body shells.
Announced at the SEMA show in November, the '32 Ford 5-Window Coupe body is made from stamped steel according to original specifications from original machinery where possible or reproduced machinery built to the same original specifications where necessary. The bodies are ready to accept vintage powertrains or crate motors from the Ford Racing catalog, and join the 9,000 other parts offered in the Ford Component Sales catalog - including similar reproduction bodies available for the 1965-70 Mustang and 1940 Ford Coupe. From there, the proverbial sky's the limit.
