I bought this great T-bird about 5 weeks ago because I wanted to experience driving across the USA, including Route 66. This car is a great example of a survivor car. The paint and interior is original, but some restoration has taken place under the hood, including an engine change in 1990 according to the receipts that came with it.

I drove it around 3000 miles from Illinois, through Indiana and Ohio to New Jersey, then through Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Arkansas and Oklahoma. I would have driven it all the way to California and on to Vegas had a problem not developed with the air-con that was going to take too long to sort out for my trip deadlines. During the trip, I had the a/c converted to r134 in New Jersey, the driver's side balljoint replaced as well as steering and suspension rubbers in Tennessee, and 5 new tires in Oklahoma.   Have receipts. A compression test was also done in Memphis, with all cylinders strong. There are a couple of oil leaks. I also lost two hubcaps along the way.

The sticker inside the driver's door (see picture) suggests the car spent at least its first 9 years in California.  This may have been longer, but I only have receipts back to 1989, and all of those are from Illinois.  There are some photographs in the receipts folder that indicate the car was garaged for a significant period of time at one stage, judging by the amount of dust on it.

The body is in great shape.  The only rust I could find is under the passenger door around the seal, and even this is only superficial.  I think this is the strongest aspect of the car, and previous owners have obviously been very careful with when and where the car was driven.

Odometer reads 8326, but obviously that has gone around once or twice. Wipers, all lights and cigarette  lighter work.  The radio powers up but isn't connected to speakers (and there is no aerial). The clock works!

Any questions, please contact Glenn by email at Glenn.Luthy@gmail.com

Call 262 664 2923 to arrange a time to see the car.

The car is titled and registered in Illinois, registration expires 7/14.  VIN # is 4Y83Z119888

Payment is by cashier's check.

2015 Ford F-150 enters production

Wed, 12 Nov 2014

Ford has given the F-150 a dramatic makeover for 2015, switching to an aluminum body that helps reduce weight by about 700 pounds. Because the truck is dramatically different, Ford also had to change the way it makes the F-150, so we went inside its sprawling factory in Dearborn, MI, this week to see the Blue Oval's new manufacturing techniques in action.
The company has added 850 jobs at the site and upgraded its stamping and tool and die facilities. The body shop is also modernized, and it has been fitted with 500 new robots that join the structures together. The first 2015 F-150 rolled off the line on Tuesday, and the trucks will begin arriving in dealerships in December. Get a closer look at the F-150's unique assembly process in our video.

Need for Speed movie casts Mustang in hero car role

Mon, 10 Jun 2013

Dreamworks Studios, Electronic Arts and Ford Motor Company announced today that the Ford Mustang will play the lead hero car role in the upcoming Need for Speed movie, slated to hit theaters next February. Of course, the Mustang didn't audition for the role like we imagine the film's star, Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad fame, might have. Rather, Ford and Dreamworks struck a partnership deal that meant the Mustang could skip the casting couch. The deal will also see the film's universe populated with other Ford products (gratuitously so, we're guessing), and the automaker will also help the studio promote the video-game-turned-movie next year.
The hero car in question is a special one-off Mustang created by Ford that is making its debut at the E3 video game trade show as we speak. Powered by a supercharged V8 and apparently based on the Shelby GT500, the car's been modified with a widebody kit, 22-inch wheels, larger air intakes and twin hood nostrils. Ford also provided the film's production with an F-450 truck that will be called "The Beast" in the film's story, and a second Mustang to be used during filming as a camera car.
The Mustang's movie career is really taking off, with news of its Need For Speed casting closely following last week's release of the trailer for Getaway, a movie coming out in August that stars Ethan Hawke, Selena Gomez and another Shelby GT500. In addition to Aaron Paul and a modified Mustang, the Need For Speed movie also stars Michael Keaton (cop, we're guessing) and Dominic Cooper (villain, we're guessing), and is directed by Scott Waugh, who directed the Navy SEAL film Act of Valor in 2012.

Ford Explorer Jackson Pollock Edition results in trip to hospital

Tue, 02 Jul 2013

Among the many useful pieces of driving advice we've taken to heart over the years, "Safely secure all cargo" is etched pretty high on our personal stone tablets. We've had a couple of frustrating moments over the years (numerous wonky cupholders and too-tall lidded cups; a radar detector that released its suction cups and dashed itself below the dashboard, etc.), but never anything like the scene above.
These photos above come courtesy of the Washington State Patrol, and they show the unfortunate aftermath of a driver, his dog, and his Ford Explorer after it crashed near the town of Belfair last week. According to reports, the man was schlepping five-gallon containers of paint inside his vehicle when he was involved in an unexplained accident. It's not clear what triggered the crash, but the impromptu abstract painting covered the whole of the interior, including the driver and his faithful companion.
The man was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries, and his dog was cleaned and later taken to a humane society.
