1957 Ford Thunderbird

This is a car from our collection and we have had it for around 7 years. We got the car from a friend locally who loves thunderbirds and always has at least 2.  This car is an original 312 and automatic transmission. It has always been a nice car for us.  We just recently put a new fuel pump on the car. Runs and drives nice.  Smooth with no issues. The power steering feels good and is smooth.  All the lights work as they should.  The power windows are very strong and have no issues up or down. The Porthole hardtop goes on and off fairly easily.
The interior is in very nice shape. The seats are in very nice shape with no tears or stains.  The Dash looks great with no sagging or warping as some do.  Door panels are also in nice shape with no issues.  The radio does not work and I have never bothered to find the issue as I was never a radio guy.  The clear center piece on the horn is one complaint I have about the interior, it has cracks in it that are noticeable.  The lenses over the gauges are slightly faded.  The carpet is in nice shape and fits the body well with no serious wrinkles or issues.
I would rate the exterior at about 7/10.  We never painted the car so it has to be over 7 years old. It is in good shape. There are a couple notable issues. The front of the body above the grille and below the hood has a series of small cracks. I cant tell what would have caused this.  It is like a crack you would see on a Urethane bumper that has flexed too much.  There is also 2  spots in the paint on the top of the driver side fender, they resemble a stain in the paint, another strange issue that I cant tell what would have been the cause. The bumpers are in good shape with no bends or dents. I would say they are an 8/10. Chrome looks good but has hairline cracks in spots that you would normally see with old factory chrome.   The Grille, trim, emblems and window trims are all in good shape with no bends or serious problems. Could be re chromed but great shape for a driver.  The trunk has the spare tire, jack, carpet, and finder skirts. I prefer the open wheel look so the wheels and fenders can be cleaned much easier. They can be put back on at any time though.  The tires are all matching 205/75/14 white walls that are in great shape with about 90% tread life.
....The last two photos are of the issues in the paint...
Overall, This car is a great driver and/or an excellent candidate for a partial or full restoration.  In the time we have had the car we haven't had to do much more than the fuel pump and the normal carb clean and rebuild.  Please ask any questions you have and I will respond as quick as I can. I also welcome and encourage any interested buyer to come see the car and check the car out for yourself before you bid. I have had a lot of time wasted here on eBay, So please do not bid unless your prepared to pay for the car.

Ford Focus Electric and ST recalled over lighting issue

Mon, 12 Aug 2013

Ford is recalling 6,308 units of the 2012 and 2013 Focus Electric and 2013 Focus ST that were fitted with HID headlights because a "wiring incompatibility" could keep the front side marker lights from working. A bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the recall should begin in the middle of this month, after which owners can take their cars to dealers to have the wiring assembly repaired free of charge.
You can find more information in the NHTSA bulletin posted below.

William Clay Ford Sr. dead at 88

Sun, 09 Mar 2014

William Clay Ford, retired vice chairman of Ford Motor Company and the last surviving grandchild of company founder Henry Ford, died this morning after a bout with pneumonia. He was 88.
Ford spent 57 years with his grandfather's company, joining the board of directors in 1948 before graduating from college. Ford also held a position as chairman of the design committee, as well as the chairman of the executive committee and vice chairman of the Board of Directors during his tenure with the company. In a 2013 Detroit Free Press story, retired CFO Allan Gilmour said Ford had an eye for design, and was once able to pick out when a fiberglass model of a Ford Contour was asymmetrical, off by an inch on one side. He retired and assumed the position of director emeritus in 2005.
"My father was a great business leader and humanitarian who dedicated his life to the company and the community," said Bill Ford, Jr., Ford's current executive chairman. "He also was a wonderful family man, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, yet he will continue to inspire us all."

Ford profits soar as problems mount

Mon, 19 Aug 2013

Ford is doing well. It can't make enough examples of its new Fusion, it can barely make enough of the aging F-150, it's getting good brand rankings, people like its turnaround story, it's selling oodles of product and its quarterly profit numbers end in the word "billion." As other high-flying examples have demonstrated over the past few years, though, big numbers can come with problems that aren't exactly small.
Automotive News has published a good "nutshell" report of Ford's progress and problems. The Dearborn automaker's optimistic "general label rule" determination of gas mileage for the C-Max Hybrid has led to lawsuits, hybrid software updates, a downward revision of C-Max fuel economy and millions in rebates. AN notes the C-Max was the "worst-scoring model in this year's J.D. Power Initial Quality Study," but Ford will probably be happy that it managed not to be mentioned further in the study's results after last year's mediocre showing. Its MyTouch and SYNC systems, the bugbears sabotaging Ford's J.D. Power results, have also led to lawsuits, software updates, more software updates and a center console rethink. On top of that, the 1.6-liter EcoBoost in the 2013 Ford Escape that Ford called a "hero" was soon catching fire for three different reasons. And let's not even get into the troubled launch of the Lincoln MKZ.
The Automotive News piece notes that industry observers have been surprised at Ford's stumbles because everything has been looking so good. Nevertheless, there is still the issue of those billions in profits - the company is doing plenty of things, plural, right. Ford says it is tackling its problems, hiring engineers and instituting new quality control processes as part of its effort to find solutions. The test will be to see if in a year from now we begin the discussion of these issues with "Remember when Ford...", or "Problems continue at The Blue Oval."
