A Bullitt is not an ordinary GT. It is a modern "recreation" of the 1968 Mustang which Steve McQueen drove in the classic movie "Bullitt". It has many changes that make it different than an ordinary GT. It is nearly indentical to the Shelby of the same year. Main differences are in the engine / exhaust and the suspension. The engine in the Bullitt is rated at 315 hp at a redline of 6,500 rpm (The GT is 300 at 5,750). The Bullitts have Ford Racing tuned, cold air intake with a K&N open element filter and tuned exhaust system which sounds like the Bullitt movie car. The Bullitt's suspension has been upgraded from the GT;  shocks and different spring rates than the GT & is lowered and has larger front and rear sway bars. In addition, the chassis has been stiffened up with the addition of a shock tower brace. The brakes have also been upgraded on the Bullitt. Bullitts also come with a 3:73 (the GT has a 3.31) rear end for better launches and easier passing.  Bottom line: The Bullitt accelerates, handles and stops a lot better than a GT, so a whole lot more fun to drive. Trim wise, Bullitts came with unique machined dash panels, interior trim and look stealthy with most badging eliminated and no stupid looking spoiler. The black leather seats are the same as used in the Shelby and provide extra padding and support. Another unique feature is that Bullitts have a computer which allows them to run on regular gas, although premium is recommended for maximum performance. The AM/FM CD sound system is Shaker and has a plug for your iPhone or iPod to play through the system. Headlights are HI.

Ford Mustang 50th anniversary edition brings in $170k

Tue, 30 Sep 2014

Just the other day, we reported on the first Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat selling for a whopping $825,000 at auction. But impressive as that sum was, the Challenger wasn't the only sought-after modern muscle car to cross the Barrett-Jackson auction block in Las Vegas this past weekend. So did this rare Ford Mustang.
The last of 1,964 special-edition 50 Years Limited Edition pony cars sold for a princely $170,000, with proceeds benefiting the Edith and Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Institute, a branch of the Henry Ford Health System.
The pony car in question is based on the 2015 Ford Mustang GT and upgrades with a performance package and nearly every option on the book, along with a unique appearance package to set it apart in celebration of the Mustang's 50th anniversary. It's available in two exclusive shades - Wimbledon white or Kona blue - with either a manual or automatic transmission. Only 1,964 highly symbolic examples were to be built, and this was the last of them.

11 vehicles from Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas worth watching

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

This weekend will see the world's collector car crowds descend on Las Vegas, NV for one of the biggest shows on Barrett-Jackson's popular auction circuit. There are hundreds of vehicles up for bidding, ranging from a brand-new Lamborghini Aventador to a spattering of Art Deco classics and a huge swath of classic muscle cars.
While it's virtually impossible to assemble an inarguable list of the best cars coming during the three-day, 700-plus vehicle auction, we've sifted through the listings for this year's show - it was a tough assignment, we promise - and assembled a list of what we think will be some of the most interesting lots. We'll admit, it's a bit heavy on American iron, but if you browse BJ's listings, you'll come to a similar conclusion. Still, scroll down for our list of what we think will be the most interesting vehicles at the upcoming auction.

Galpin Ford GTR1 supercar debuts in Monterey

Fri, 16 Aug 2013

Galpin Auto Sports has finally taken the wraps off the car we first previewed back in December, the Galpin Ford GTR1. A few weeks ago, we posted the first hints of just what the GTR1 would be capable of, with Galpin teasing that its 5.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 would produce in excess of 1000 horsepower, with a top speed of 225 miles per hour. Package all that in a coachbuilt body, and you have the recipe for one wicked supercar.
The price for the carbon fiber-bodied car is $1,024,000.
Now, we have all the glorious details. Galpin is targeting a production run of six cars, but if interest is strong enough, will expand its initial quote to 24 vehicles. The price for the carbon fiber-bodied car is $1,024,000. Opting for the aluminum bodywork could lower that, although it's not immediately clear by how much.
