up for auction is a real 1970 ford mustang mach1 and not a clone.first off let me say that the entire car will need gone over and restored because it has been sitting in a garage since about the early 1980's.the car was a texas car that moved to kentucky at some time in its life and thats where i got it, and had it shipped here from. i will try to describe the car as accurately as i can.first off the major parts of any mustang that are usually rusted and rotted out are not rotted on this car as i will list.all the frame rails both front and back and both sides are not rotted and need nothing done to them.one torque box needs a patch put on it but the rest are very nice.the quarter panels are also very nice originals that need very little done to them.the inside of the trunk is also very nice with no patches or rot showing.the passenger door needs little work.the drivers door has a rust hole in the bottom rear corner and a dent in it so i would just put on a new skin.the door frame is in good shape so it can be used over.the trunk lid has rust and a hole in the corner so it will also need replaced.the floor pans have some rust and holes and also a piece cut out where i think someone wanted to put a 4 speed in but never did,i would replace the floor with a one piece complete floor just to make it look perfect and a one piece is much easier to do than putting in sections.all the front framework and rad support is in great shape there is no rot where the front bumper bolts on as most have, there is not even a rot hole under the battery tray where they all rot.the nuts pulled through the rear aprons for the hood hinges so they will need changed the old ones were correctly removed by taking out the spot welds and temporary ones were put in just so the car doesnt shift when transporting it.the drivers side shock tower had a hole cut in it to get to the grease fittings and the wrap around part was welded solid on both sides for extra support.you can change these if you want when changing the rear aprons.fenders are not all rotted out but do have dings and dents so i would just replace them anyway. other rust that i can find that needs repaired is some around the windshield lip, roof and cowl panel.the hood had a hole cut in it for air and a aftermarket scoop put on it as so many cars did in that era.the wheels and tires were also changed and now has huge 50 series in the rear and 60 series in the front.the engine transmission and rear end are as far as i can tell the original ones from the car.i cant find any serial numbers stamped in anything but all the driveline parts are dated less than 90 days before the car was finished.as a matter of fact all the major engine parts were made in a week.engine block 9h13 intake 9h14 heads 9h9 and 9h11 definitely all original to this engine.the engine is a 351 cleveland factory 4 barrel with 4 barrel heads.i removed the engine and transmission and removed the intake and heads to check the condition of the engine.it seems to be all original and i dont think it was ever taken apart before me.the speedometer reads 85,069 miles and the title says 85,000 miles on it and i truly believe these are original miles.engine needs rebuilt from sitting just like the rest of the car.i cant possibly describe every single part of this car as this description is already getting pretty long so if you have any questions about anything just e-mail me.i am including a copy of the marti report in the listing so you can check out all the info on the car.i have to sell it.just e-mail me with any questions at all that you might have.i encourage anyone who lives close to come and check out the car in person,or have someone come check it out for you.

1969 Ford Talladega GPT Special is a SEMA showstopper

Thu, 07 Nov 2013

Rad Rides by Troy has unleashed upon the SEMA crowds this custom 1969 Ford Torino Talladega GT Special, and it's a beauty. The car calls to mind the classic Holman Moody stock cars that circled NASCAR tracks in the late 1960's, driven by the likes of Mario Andretti, Dan Gurney and David Pearson, who won the Grand National title in both 1968 and '69 in a Ford Torino.
Even though it has plenty of stock-car influence, there's nothing retro about the car's design or powertrain, other than the fact that the engine is based on a Ford Boss 429 block. Fuel injection, aftermarket aluminum heads and a high-tech custom computer system combine to send 750 reliable ponies to the rear wheels through a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. Brakes measure 14-inches all around, with six-piston Wilwood calipers up front and four-piston units out back.
There's custom bodywork abound, painted in a two-tone Tennessee Whiskey Gold and Daytona Sand finish. Check out all the amazing details in the image gallery below, and scroll down to read all about it in designer Troy Trepanier's own words.

Porsche 911 Turbo and Nissan GT-R Nismo star in World's Greatest Drag Race 4

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

We love Motor Trend's annual World's Greatest Drag Race video. Now back for its fourth appearance, the idea of lining some of the world's fastest cars up for a ten-wide, straight-line, full-throttle run is, well... it's pretty freaking badass.
The lineup this year boasts some impressively fast cars to be sure. The group of ten includes the following darlings: Alfa Romeo 4C, BMW i8, BMW M4, Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, Ford Fiesta ST, Jaguar F-Type R Coupe, Nissan GT-R Nismo, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Subaru WRX STI and, last but not least, the Volkswagen GTI. Give us any one of those for the weekend, and we're happy to take the keys.
It must be said though, that for a publication that draws as much water as Motor Trend does, there are some big cars that we might expect to be here instead. The Lamborghini Huracán or Ferrari 458 Speciale would have added some exotic flare to the list, and the omissions of the Chevy Corvette Stingray (for the second year in a row) and the Dodge Challenger Hellcat are real head-scratchers.

Ford rolls out diesel Focus ST at Goodwood [w/poll]

Sun, 29 Jun 2014

If you're in the market for a hot hatch, there are some excellent choices at your disposal - especially if you live in Europe. But if you want a diesel, well, your choices become rather more limited. Volkswagen tends to that niche market with the Golf GTD (essentially an oil-burning version of the GTI available Stateside), but that's about the extent of it. The pleas of those looking for more diesel-burning hot hatch choices haven't fallen on deaf ears at Ford, with the Blue Oval not only rolling out a facelifted gas-powered Focus ST at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, but also a new diesel version as well.
The diesel Focus ST (which we hope and pray isn't marketed as the STD) packs a 2.0-liter turbodiesel four producing 182 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque to propel the oil-burning hot hatch to 62 in 8.1 seconds en route to a top speed of 135 miles per hour. With less power and only slightly more torque, that makes the diesel Focus ST considerably slower than the gasoline one, which packs 252 hp and 270 lb-ft, runs to 62 in 6.5 seconds and tops out at 154 mph, but (in a testament to how far particulate filters have come) the diesel model cuts carbon emissions by nearly a third compared to the petrol version and returns about 50-percent better fuel economy, which makes that much more of a difference in markets where diesel is already priced better than gasoline at the pump.
For buyers who wouldn't consider anything other than a diesel, it also represents 23-percent more power than the previous top-level diesel Focus. The VW Golf GTD, for reference, offers up 181 hp (just 1 horse less), 280 lb-ft (15 fewer torques) but is somehow estimated to reach 60 in a considerably fleeter 7.4 seconds.
