1923 Ford T-bucket Custom Street Rod on 2040-cars

This beautiful T-bucket is amazing to drive, very fast and gets tons of attention. Like any street rod that's driven, this one isn't perfect. It is very good though, and it wouldn't take much to bring her up to show condition. Unfortunately, I'm losing the use of my garage, and that's forcing me to put this super-fun car up for sale.

The motor is a pre-Vortec 350 Chevy crate motor with a mild street cam. It's been assembled with a Weiand 8004 intake, Edelbrock 1406, Edelbrock Pro-Flo air filter, Holley mechanical fuel pump, Holley regulator and Flame Thrower HEI. The transmission is a TH400 professionally rebuilt by Eagle Transmission just last year. The rear end is a Ford 8" with 2.79 gears. The shifter and parking brake are Lokar.

In addition to the transmission, the following items were installed/replaced within the last 12 months:

  • Mustang II front brake calipers
  • Speedway front shocks
  • SO-CAL steering damper
  • Champion spark plugs
  • Taylor Spiro-Pro wires
  • Flame-Thrower distributor cap and rotor
  • Anchor motor mounts (USA)
  • Spicer U-joints
  • National real axle seals
  • Energy Suspension rear radius rod bushings
  • Carb rebuilt w/Edelbrock kit
Wheels and tires were also purchased recently and are almost new:

  • Weld Racing Pro Star 15 x 5 / Nexen 165/80R15
  • Weld Racing Pro Star 15 x 12 / Mickey Thompson 29 x 15 R15LT
Ergonomics in this car are unusually good. I'm 6' / 200 lbs, and I can drive it comfortably. That's not typical of these cars, especially with a standard size body. Many T-buckets are set up in such a way that I can't even sit in them, let alone drive. The last photo shows how well I fit in the car. Other nice touches include the fact that the battery and fusebox are located under the seat for easy access. The transmission crossmember is a bolt-on. Unlike many of these cars, you won't have to pull the motor to swap torque converters. Radius rods, drag link, tie rod and windshield support rods are all stainless steel. Fuel mileage is approximately in the low 20s, so the 10-gallon tank provides a good cruising range if you don't have a lead foot. This car also has seat belts to meet state safety requirements.

Bugs: This car is equipped with Intellitronix digital gauges. They all work fine except the speedometer, which sometimes indicates a few MPH when the car is standing still with the motor running. I have also seen the speedometer black out once in a while. I suspect this is due to a loose ground somewhere, but haven't had time to look into it. The gauge manufacturer is still in business if you need support, or the entire cluster could simply be replaced or updated.

This car has a clear Texas title as a 1923 Ford Roadster. State inspection and registration were recently renewed.

CAUTION!
These cars have a high HP to weight ratio, and they are very fast. Even with one like this that corners well and generally accelerates in a straight line, it's easy for an inexperienced driver to get into trouble. Be sure you want a machine like this and that you have all required permissions from other family members before you bid!!

Please ask all questions before bidding.

Ford recalling nearly 700k Escape CUVs, C-Max hybrids over two separate safety issues

Fri, 09 May 2014

Poor Escape. Ever since its launch in 2012, Ford's small CUV has been the subject of many, many, many recalls. And today, The Detroit News is reporting that Ford is adding two more recalls to the 2013-14 model year Escape's permanent record, one of them also involves the C-Max hybrid hatchback.
The first recall, covering 692,500 Escape and C-Max vehicles, is due to a software glitch that could cause the airbags - specifically, the safety canopy - to not deploy in a timely fashion during rollover crashes. According to the News, Ford says no crashes or injuries have been reported in relation to this problem.
The second recall, covering 692,700 Escapes, is related to the door handles. The News reports that the exterior door handles could open while the vehicle is in motion, and could also fail to latch properly. Once again, no crashes or injuries have occurred because of this. The National Highway Safety Traffic Administration has not issued an official notice on either recall as of this writing.

70% of pickups could use aluminum by 2025

Wed, 11 Jun 2014

In the next decade, the auto industry will see an explosion in its use of aluminum to cut weight and increase fuel economy, according to a study from market analysts Ducker Worldwide cited by The Detroit News. We are already seeing the lightweight metal show up extensively in luxury models from Europe, but with the impending launch of aluminum-intensive 2015 Ford F-150 (pictured above), North America is using it even more, as well. The report predicts 70 percent of US pickups to have aluminum bodies by 2025.
It won't just be pickups that see the benefit, though. The average amount of aluminum in US vehicles is forecasted by the study to grow from an average of 350 pounds in 2013 to about 550 pounds by 2025. The most common parts to use it will be hoods, doors and - to some extent - roofs, as well.
The massive increase in pickups' aluminum content hardly seems surprising. The F-150 is predicted to use so much that it might cause a short-term shortage, according to one earlier report. At the same time General Motors is heavily rumored to be negotiating with suppliers for the next generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. Ram is the last holdout of the Big Three, but the study predicts that not to last.

Ford sued over alleged 3.5-liter EcoBoost defects

Thu, 16 May 2013

Three Ford owners from Ohio have filed a lawsuit against the automaker over defects that they allege exist within the company's twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine. Automotive News reports that the lawsuit claims the engine "contained serious latent design, manufacturing, or assembly defects." Those defects, the suit claims, cause the vehicle to shake, misfire and lose power quickly.
Two of the plaintiffs, a married couple, own a 2010 Ford Taurus SHO, and allege they experienced a loss of power and stalling, while the third, an F-150 owner, claims he lost power while accelerating. In addition to the Taurus SHO and F-150, the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine is also available in the Ford Flex, Explorer Sport and Lincoln MKT and MKS. Other three- and four-cylinder EcoBoost engines are not included in the suit. There have been no recalls associated with 3.5-liter V6 engine, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is currently not investigating the matter.
The plaintiffs, however, claim Ford has known about the problem, citing several technical service bulletins issued to dealers of the F-150 that suggest possible fixes. Ford had no comment for Automotive News, saying that it's yet to review the lawsuit, which was filed last Friday in Columbus, OH.
