1963 1/2 Galaxie Xl Pro Street on 2040-cars
Conifer, Colorado, United States
WOW! Never thought I would be posting this car for sale but retirement is looming and we are looking to relocate to Costa Rica. So here goes. One of a kind. Call it what you want Retro Rod, classic. whatever. Most just call it COOL! 1963 1/2 Galaxie XL. This car is professionally tubbed with backseat and full interior still in car. 4.30 Detroit locker with 4 wheel disc brakes. Weld wheels and Hoosier tires. The car was subject to a rotisserie restoration a few years back with no expense spared. The moldings, grill and bumpers were chromed at a cost of 8K. A Crites AFX hood has been added. 427 badging on the fenders. Originally a 352 car. The underside is painted white as well. This was a ZERO rust Texas car when I bought it about 25 years ago. Outstanding XL interior with nice console. Tilt wheel, POWER WINDOWS (rare) and under dash AC unit. The engine is often mistaken for a SOHC or Boss 9. In reality it is a 4.6 modular motor that I pulled the fuel injection off of. I built a 2 four intake and mounted 2 Edelbrock 500's on. Polished Sullivan valve covers and MSD coil packs made to look like a distributor fire the MSD Mod 6 box. 1 wire alternator and power rack and pinion steering as well. T 45 % speed. This is truly a Saturday night Barrett Jackson car. I have the car for sale locally as well. It will not be cheap but in this case quality cost. Clear Colorado title in my name. Located 25 miles form Denver. Call Dan with any questions at 785 250 1789

Consumer Reports says Toyota, Ford, Honda and Chevy are big winners in brand perception survey
Wed, 05 Feb 2014According to Consumer Reports, the automotive brands that stand out in the minds of car buyers are, in order: Toyota, Ford, Honda and Chevrolet. This news comes after the magazine polled its readers, asking them to take into account vehicle quality, safety, performance, value, fuel economy, design/style, and technology/innovation - which are the factors that car shoppers are most influenced by.
It's important to note that this award is only about perception. In other words, it's perceived quality, not actual quality. "Often, perception can be a trailing indicator, reflecting years of good or bad performance in a category, and it can also be influenced by headlines in the media," said Jeff Bartlett, Consumer Reports deputy automotive editor.
The brand that made the biggest jump in perception amongst Consumer Reports readers is Tesla, which posted an impressive 47-point gain to finish in fifth place. Subaru is also notable for finishing in the top 10, despite being one of the smaller manufacturers doing business in the US. Scroll down below for all the details from Consumer Reports, if you're so inclined.
Ford F-450 claims best-in-class towing, company abandons practice of removing items to boost payload number
Tue, 02 Sep 2014The ongoing heavy-duty truck battle between Ford and Ram is showing no signs of slowing down. The Blue Oval is trying to remove at least one point of contention between the two brands by testing its 2015 F-450 Super Duty using the Society of Automotive Engineers J2807 towing standard, which Ram also uses. In the new evaluation, the F-450 is rated at a max towing capacity of 31,200 pounds. That's an identical amount as under Ford's own, previous test.
"We leave no doubt with customers that the F-450 pickup truck has best-in-class towing of 31,200 pounds - whether tested using our own internal towing standards or SAE J2807," said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president for Global Product Development, in the company's release.
At the same time, Ford is also changing how it calculates the F-450's payload. Instead of using its minimum curb weight as before, the brand is now using the truck's base curb weight. The revision lowers the pickup's rating to 5,300 pounds, compared to 5,450 pounds previously. The company said in its announcement that the reason for this is "aligning its payload rating practices with other manufacturers to make it easier for customers to compare vehicles." General Motors made a similar switch for its pickups in August.
Total auto recalls already on record pace in 2014
Tue, 08 Apr 2014If you've noticed that there have been more recalls than usual this year, you may be on to something. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the US market is on pace to break a record for recalls. In 2013, 22 million cars were recalled. We're only a third of the way through 2014, though, and we've already halved that figure, with 11 million units recalled. That's wild.
Considering the past few months, it shouldn't be a surprise that General Motors is leading the charge, with six million of the 11 million units recalled coming from one of the General's four brands. Between truck recalls, CUV recalls and the ignition switch recall, 2014 hasn't been a great year for GM.
Other recall leaders include Nissan (one million Sentra and Altima sedans), Honda (900,000 Odyssey minivans), Toyota (over one million units in a few recalls), Volkswagen (150,000 Passat sedans), Chrysler (644,000 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs) and most recently, Ford (434,000 units, the bulk of which were early Ford Escape CUVs). So while it's been a bad year for GM so far, its competitors aren't doing too well, either.
