1966 Ford Fairlane GT 390

One owner car - 62,530 miles

True survivor car - absolutely gorgeous

Midnight blue exterior - blue interior

Original window sticker

Original bill of sale

This Fairlane GT is the absolute real deal.  I literally got this GT from the original owner out of his front yard just a few weeks ago.  I have the signed title from the original owner in hand.  When I was looking at the car and talking price with the elderly gentleman I ask him "How long have you had the car?"  and he said to me in the manner an older gentleman would "I bought it new".  After I picked my jaw up off the ground he continued to tell me that he had the original window sticker, bill of sale, and title in the house.  He replaced the exhaust in 1995 for which there is a receipt, put brakes on it and replaced the water pump.  I believe that's all that's been done to the car since the day he drove it home from the dealer.

Check out the window sticker and bill of sale.  Car came with an AM radio option, two speed wipers, and a deluxe steering wheel from the factory.  I've never actually seen a factory deluxe steering wheel before.  It is beautiful.  There is one rip in the passenger front seat vinyl and some minor rust behind the front wheel wells which is obviously quite normal.  The car was garage kept its entire life.  It has a beautiful patina with some small scuffs and so forth , actually very befitting such an awesome survivor car.  The owner ordered the car with the XL chrome package which was installed by the dealer as shown on the bill of sale.  It has factory chrome valve covers.

This Fairlane GT is a stunning example of a true survivor.  I personally wouldn't do a thing to it, it is beautiful as it is and all original, but if someone wanted to bring it to concourse level it would be a perfect car to have as this Fairlane GT is certainly one the finest survivor cars of its kind in the country.

I've set a very reasonable reserve for this classic piece of  Ford history, so bid to win.  If you're the winning bidder you will absolutely love this Fairlane GT.  If for any reason you come to pick it up and aren't perfectly satisfied you don't have to take her, no problem.  But I can assure you, once you see her in person, you'll see what a beautiful classic survivor this is.  Happy bidding and good luck.

Ford Explorer, Expedition next to go aluminum?

Sun, 13 Apr 2014

Ford made some serious waves when it unveiled the latest F-150. Instead of making its bodywork out of steel, like just about every other truck on the market, Ford went with aluminum. And you can bet the F-150 won't be the last Ford model to go with the lightweight alloy construction, either.
Our compatriots at Edmunds report that Dearborn is considering replacing two of its most popular SUVs with aluminum versions. One candidate is the Expedition, which would make sense considering that the current model (like the two preceding generations and the fullsize Bronco before it) is based on the F-150's underpinnings. Another is the Explorer, which was traditionally based on the Ranger pickup but went with a car-like unibody chassis in its current iteration. If the Explorer does go the way of aluminum, don't expect it to be a part of its very next update, which is likely due too soon for such major changes.
It would stand to reason that, if the Expedition were to go aluminum, so would the next-generation Lincoln Navigator. Ditto the MKT together with the Explorer. But those aren't likely to be the only models in contention for aluminum construction. Like any other automaker, Ford is under pressure to steadily reduce its carbon emissions and improve its fuel economy figures, prompting it to look at a whole range of measures - including more efficient engines, lower rolling-resistance tires, active aerodynamics and lightweight construction. Expect aluminum to play a big part in that equation moving forward.

Chrysler called out over lackluster Ram Runner by racer who helped develop it

Fri, 11 Apr 2014

Fans of off-roading and desert blasting might recall that Chrysler offers an aftermarket conversion that can turn a Ram 1500 into a road-legal desert racer, called the Ram Runner. The kit, sold through Mopar, includes some significant suspension upgrades, body tweaks and a brawnier cat-back exhaust for the truck's 5.7-liter V8.
Considering all of this, comparisons with the almighty Ford F-150 SVT Raptor are common. Among the off-road community, that makes these two a sort of Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang for people that prefer driving on dirt. In the Race-Dezert forum, the discussion as to which truck was better was proceeding as normal - Ram fans said their piece and Ford fans said theirs. Then, a man named Kent Kroeker offered up his two cents.
See, Kroeker is a Baja racer, and the man that helped develop the Ram Runner. Despite his association with the truck, though, he had some less than kind words for Chrysler and the Ram Runner.

BMW to follow Honda back into F1?

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

The economic downturn wrought devastating effects on motor racing. Formula One alone lost half its engine suppliers when Honda left at the end of the 2008 season, and both BMW and Toyota followed at the end of 2009. But things are looking up again. Cosworth may have dropped out this season, reducing the engine suppliers to three: Ferrari, Renault and Mercedes, the latter of which admits that it may have left had the engine formula not changed. But Mercedes has stayed and is dominating the championship. Honda is coming back next season. And word around the paddock is it may not be the only one.
According to Giancarlo Minardi - founder of the team now known as Scuderia Toro Rosso - BMW engineers have been conspicuously spotted lately at F1 test sessions and grands prix, lending to speculation that the new engine regulations may entice the Bavarian automaker back into the series. According to Minardi, BMW's marketing division is pushing for the automaker's return to F1, with the board slated to make a decision in May. BMW would be more likely to consider an engine-supply deal rather than taking a team over like it had with Sauber, but with which team or teams it might collaborate remains a big question mark at this point.
As if that's not enough, Ford is said to be considering taking over Cosworth's aborted V6 turbo engine program to take both outfits back into the sport as well. Cosworth supplied F1 engines under the Ford banner for years, but returned under its own name for four seasons from 2010 through 2013 before shuttering its program to develop an engine to meet the new regulations adopted this season.
