Ford F-450 Western Hauler on 2040-cars

Year:2003 Mileage:102000
Location:

Utica, New York, United States

Utica, New York, United States

This is probably one of the best haulers available. First I'd like to say that the 6.0 engine is one of the best built. There have been some bad press, mostly due to the emissions that were put on these new engines. I have talked to several people with 6.0 diesels and they have never had a problem & some that have had nothing but problems. I spent a lot of time researching problems and solutions. Finally I decided to go through everything to "Bullet Proof" the engine. The automatic transmission was new as was the engine for 2003. The transmission is a work of art. It shifts beautifully and shifts down to use the engine as a brake. This truck was purchased in Texas and used there by the 1st owner. It then was purchased by the 2nd owner and used in Louisiana. I am the 3rd owner and live in New York State but the truck has never been in bad weather. The body is perfect. Below I will list all the things that I have done to the truck. Most of them to just insure that I would have no problems.

  • Regulator
  • Sensor assembly
  • Semi Bullet proof kit with EGR delete
  • Tube (j pipe)
  • High pressure oil pump kit
  • Lucas Synthetic rear end lub & friction modifier
  • High pressure oil pump gasket
  • New thermostat
  • 15/40 Royal Purple synthetic engine oil
  • Cat bypass pipe
  • Relocated trailer brake controller
  • Installed oil temp, exhaust temp & boost gauges
  • New oil injection pump
  • Removed, cleaned & rebuilt turbo
  • New inlet hose for turbo
  • Installed 8 new injectors, purchased from Ford
  •  New Alternator
  • New serpentine Belt
  • New air conditioning compressor
  • New A/C accumulator
  • New fuel injection control module

All this work & parts came to about $12,000. The fuel injectors alone were $2,300 not installed. I had an older 6.9 diesel with a turbo & a set of injectors for that were about $300 per set. I have all the receipts. Bottom line is that the truck runs perfect and has tremendous power. The Western Hauler package gives you many things such as upgraded leather seats that are heated. Air bags in the rear with a dedicated air compressor. The hauler body has all kinds of storage. The rear seat moves with power to make a bed. I only want to sell this truck because I don't use it. The first year I had it, we towed my car trailer & went to several shows and a Grand National Meet. My trailer loaded weighs about 10,000 pounds and this truck doesn't even know it's back there. I truly do think this truck is better than the new ones as they have more emissions on them. There is a 100 gallon fuel tank on the hauler bed and the 20 gallon tank that came on the truck. Let me know if you have any questions.

Fields 'required' to use private aircraft, could make $5.25M as Ford CEO this year

Thu, 03 Jul 2014

Mark Fields' travels on the friendly skies will soon be a relatively personal affair, as the new CEO at Ford will be required to resume air travel via the company's private planes. Fields caught plenty of flak in 2007 for flying on the company's dime to visit his family in Florida. He's since flown commercial.
According to Ford spokesperson Susan Krusel, who spoke to Bloomberg, Fields (pictured above right, with Bill Ford, Jr. at center and Alan Mulally at left) will switch to private travel "for safety and to maximize his availability for company business." In addition to his new travel arrangements, the 53-year-old exec's salary and bonuses have been revealed.
Regulatory filings by Ford revealed that Fields, whose first day in the big chair was July 1, will receive a base salary this year of $1.25 million and he'll be eligible for $3.5 million in bonuses, both of which are lower than Alan Mulally's $2 million salary and $5.88 million in bonuses received last year. That's also lower than General Motors CEO Mary Barra's alleged $1.6-million salary and considerably less than Sergio Marchionne's $3.19-million fixed salary from Fiat. Despite falling short of other CEOs, Fields' new pay still represents a 33-percent increase over his pay as Chief Operating Officer.

Consumer Reports criticizes small turbo engines for misleading performance, fuel economy claims [w/video]

Tue, 05 Feb 2013

Consumer Reports has taken aim at at small-displacement, forced-induction engines, saying the powerplants don't manage to deliver on automaker fuel economy claims. Manufacturers have long held that smaller, turbocharged engines pack all power of their larger displacement cousins with significantly better fuel economy, but the research organization says that despite scoring high EPA economy numbers, the engines are no better than conventional drivetrains in both categories. Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, says the forced induction options "are often slower and less fuel efficient than larger four and six-cylinder engines."
Specifically, CR calls out the new Ford Fusion equipped with the automaker's Ecoboost 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The institute's researchers found the engine, which is a $795 option over the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, fails to match competitors in acceleration and served up 25 miles per gallon in testing, putting the sedan dead last among other midsize options.
The Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Sonata Turbo and Ford Escape 2.0T all got dinged for the same troubles, though Consumer Reports has found the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the BMW 328i does deliver on its promises. You can check out the full press release below. You can also read the full study on the Consumer Reports site, or scroll down for a short video recap.

Has the 2015 Ford Mustang gained hundreds of pounds?

Sun, 01 Jun 2014

Automakers face competing interests when it comes to developing a new generation of vehicle. On the one hand, companies want to build their cars to be safer and better handling, with more equipment and maybe even larger dimensions over the model it's replacing. On the other hand, they strive to keep weight down to the benefit of both performance and fuel consumption. Usually something has to give, and in the case of the new 2015 Ford Mustang, those efforts may have resulted in a weight penalty of two or three hundred pounds.
This according to Blue Oval modifier Steeda Autosports, which states that "the 2015 Mustang ended up gaining 200-300 pounds in this remake". Despite the Mustang not being on the market yet, it would appear the leading Ford aftermarketer has been given early access to the 2015 model to help jumpstart its tuning efforts (a rather common development among trusted tuners). If Steeda's assertion is accurate, that would make the challenge of getting the new pony car up to speed for both Ford and aftermarket customizers like Steeda that much greater.
We're waiting for official word from Ford on the veracity of Steeda's claim, but if true, it's bound to be a bit of disappointing news for legions of Blue Oval performance enthusiasts. Watch this space for more.
