1998 Ford Escort ZX2

One owner, purchased new in July of 1997 from Dallas Texas. Great car for a new teen driver! Comes complete with a great stereo system and the reliability of low miles on a newly rebuilt motor. Just needs a new paint job (the clear coat is peeling) and a little bit of transmission work. The synchronizers need some work. It pops out of first, third, and fifth gears at times. Original clutch. AC blows COLD and has a great heater as well. Had an alarm installed with auto door locks and remotes, but took out the speaker for it under the hood. Also needs a new horn pad (in the steering column), but the current horn works with the fuse in.  Here are the specs:
  • Rebuilt motor-it has a little over 20k miles on it.
  • New Battery
  • New Radiator
  • Moonroof
  • Fully loaded Pioneer Premier stereo system with remote and detachable face (usb and aux compatible)
  • Kit added for Sirrius/XM
  • Lanzar amps mounted to the back of the back seat
  • Lanzar bass booster remote mounted under dash
  • Soundstream crossover
  • Premier bass speakers
  • Drives great
  • Manual Transmission
  • Salvage title (gotten after the rebuilt motor was put in)
  • Clean body
  • New serpentine belt
  • Good rubber on tires
  • New water pump
  • Made the switch to synthetic oil
  • Manual windows/seats
It has a salvage title due to filing a claim with State Farm for flood damage, although the car was never wet inside. Everything inside is original. The motor's intake is on the bottom of the engine and sucked water up into it. Hence, the rebuilt engine.

Ford and GM link bonus checks to quality scores

Tue, 29 Apr 2014

The poor first quarter earnings of Ford and General Motors are having an effect all the way up the food chain. Both automakers struggled with recalls in the first three months of the year, and, according to The Detroit News, they have responded by increasing the percentage of bonuses tied to vehicle quality for salaried workers, including top executives.
GM announced that 25 percent of bonuses (up from 10 percent) for all salaried workers would be tied to its vehicle quality standards. The automaker revealed in its financial report that it spent $1.3 billion on recall-related repairs in the first quarter, and net income was down 86 percent.
Ford also increased the quality proportion of bonuses for about 26,000 salaried workers all the way up to CEO Alan Mulally from 10 percent to 20 percent. The company announced in its report that the amount paid out in warranty and recall claims was about $400 million higher than expected in the first quarter. Its net income fell 39 percent from the previous year. "The change reflects how critical quality is to our overall business," said spokesperson Todd Nissen speaking to Autoblog.

Ford reflects on radical Mustang concept that never reached showrooms

Tue, 25 Jun 2013

The Ford Mustang that we all know and love made major waves in the auto industry way back in 1964 by offering style and reasonable pricing with optional V8 power. Its long hood and short rear deck, combined with a low-slung and sporty cockpit, made a lasting impression in the minds of consumers and car designers alike, and its basic shape has so endured the test of time that it's still in use today.
This being the case, you may be interested to know that the first Mustang of 1964.5 wasn't actually the first Mustang at all, being preceded by a concept car that made its public debut in 1962. This concept was nothing like the car that would eventually make it into production, with a radical wedge shape and a small V4 engine sitting behind the car's two occupants, driving the rear wheels. In other words, the conceptual Mustang was pretty much the complete opposite of the production Mustang besides the name.
Ford has kindly decided go through its massive archive to bring the original Mustang concept back into the public eye. The company goes so far as to pose this question to fans of the pony car: "Should we borrow a few of these style elements for the next iteration of the Mustang?" GM already raising prices on 2014 Silverado and Sierra pickups

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

General Motors must be pretty pleased with sales of its two newest pickups, the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado, as it's announced price hikes for both models, as part of a planned price tweak.
Prices will be bumped by as much as $1,500, although weirdly, they'll be offset by as much as $1,500 in cash-back offers through the end of October. Fox Business reports that GM spokesman Jim Cain said of the price hike, "With the sell down of the '13 models nearly complete, this price adjustment was planned and is a normal part of business."
The move, as Fox is quick to point out, is an interesting one, as sales of the twin pickups struggled last month relative to the Ford F-Series, while both of GM's crosstown competitors have been aggressively undercutting Silverado and Sierra prices. The F-150 starts at $24,070 and the Ram 1500 comes in at $23,600, not counting any cash on the hood. A base Silverado, meanwhile, retails at $25,575.
