1998 Ford Escort Se 178000 Miles. Runs Great, Good On Gas! on 2040-cars

US $1,500.00
Year:1998 Mileage:178782
Location:

Niles, Michigan, United States

Niles, Michigan, United States

For sale 1998 Ford Escort SE. 178782 original miles (miles may go up by a few due to me driving it to keep it maintained around the block). Never smoked in. The car runs and drives really well for its age. My girlfriend received it from her father as a graduation present and drove it for 4 years. It has been very reliable and great on gas and has been mostly driven on the highway going back and forth to school and work. Only selling because she upgraded to a newer car and wont be able to afford insurance for 3 vehicles.

I have just recently replaced the following within the past year:

New Battery 12/2013 (Autocraft Silver)
Rear struts and springs (Quick strut)
Rear brake lines
Front ball joints (MOOG)
Front sway bar links (MOOG)
Plug wire set (Bosch)
Double platinum spark plugs (Autolite)
Front brake pads (Duralast)
Transmission flush
Power steering flush
New air filter (Motorcraft replaced at 177500 with oil change)
The timing belt and water pump has been also replaced as of 2/09 with approximately 140,000 miles (receipts retained)

The A/C will need to be recharged, I believe its low on refrigerant. Last season it blew pretty cold, but not perfect. Recently its not as cold, but gets colder the more you drive. Compressor still kicks on so more than likely a pound or so of R-134a could be added. (Possible small leak)

The alignment is a little off, so it will need a new front end alignment

Passenger side door has been repainted the closest color I could match to the color code for the car. We got the car with a huge dent in the door panel next to the handle from a deer running into it while driving. The door wouldn't latch so I picked up a whole new door assembly from LKQ that was red. Everything latches properly now and I repainted the inside and out of the panel to match.

Besides a few cosmetic issues, the car would be great for daily commuting or a first car. I haven't had any serious issues besides the normal wear parts such as brake pads, and suspension parts. I am asking $1500 O.B.O. as is. I am willing to come down a little bit in price, but no low ball offers. If I cant sell at a reasonable price, I will keep it for myself to drive daily. My name is Tyler and if you have any questions feel free to message me, or call/ text me at 269-635-2765.

Ford 1.0L takes third-straight International Engine of the Year award

Thu, 26 Jun 2014

Ford's 1.0-liter EcoBoost is proving to be The Little Engine That Could, and it continues to acquit itself well, finding favor as one of the best powerplants in the world. To confirm it yet again, the tiny mill just won the International Engine of the Year award for the third year in a row, likewise also nabbing the title in the Sub 1.0-liter category.
Packing 123 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque with overboost (125 lb-ft normally), the tiny engine combines impressive power in a size small enough to be a carry-on item for a commercial flight. US buyers only got a taste of the award winner in the 2014 Fiesta, while the 1.0 EcoBoost has been available throughout the Ford lineup in Europe for a few years now. American sales have reportedly been strong, however, and next up in the US, the mill will find its way into the 2015 Focus.
The panel of 82 jury members from 34 countries also named the Mercedes-AMG 2.0-liter turbo found in the A45, CLA45 and GLA45 AMG models with 355 hp and 332 lb-ft as the best New Engine for 2014. The electric powertrain from Tesla won Green Engine prize, and the 4.5-liter V8 from the Ferrari 458 Italia took home the honor of top Performance Engine yet again. You can check out all the winners below, and scroll down further to read Ford's celebratory announcement of its award.

Ford F-35 Lightning II Edition Mustang appears at EAA Oshkosh

Sat, 26 Jul 2014

Ford is back at the Experimental Aircraft Association AirVenture air show in Oshkosh, WI, on July 31 auctioning off its seventh Mustang for charity, and this is one seriously mean looking 2015 'Stang. All of the money from the sale goes to give free introductory flights to young people to get them interested in aviation.
We recently saw this latest EAA Mustang as a sketch. However, it looks a whole lot more menacing in person. Dubbed the Ford F-35 Lightning II Edition Mustang, it takes liberal inspiration from Lockheed Martin's latest fighter jet, and the customization makes the pony car look ready for a role in Top Gun.
On the outside, the special Mustang wears titanium-color paint that's offset by a black and yellow stripe running from hood to rear. Out back things get really wild with a mix of bright yellow and black that flows diagonally all the way to the rear spoiler. The design is based on the livery of early production F-35s. If the rousing color scheme isn't enough to get you interested, the car also gets a carbon fiber front splitter and rear diffuser, lowered suspension and a set of custom 21-inch wheels with yellow brake calipers.

Popular Science magazine's Best Of What's New 2012 all ate up with cars

Tue, 20 Nov 2012

Popular Science has named the winners in its Best of What's New awards, the victors coming in the categories of aerospace, automotive, engineering, entertainment, gadgets, green, hardware, health, home, recreation, security and software. The automotive category did not go wanting for lauded advancements:
Tesla Model S: the Grand Award winner for being "the standard by which all future electric vehicles will be measured."
BMW 328i: it's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gets called out for being more powerful and frugal than the six-cylinder it replaces.
