1993 Ford Escort Station Wagon 1.9l on 2040-cars
Lake Charles, Louisiana, United States
1993 Ford Escort spent the last two years sitting up. Was started from time to time. Few days ago I put a new battery and started driving it around. Recently started making a weird whining noise hard to explain I believe its coming from the transmission but not sure. I plan to continue driving it as well as have a mechanic look it over while this auction is up and will update if anything changes. Heater works. A/C worked just seemed to take a little longer than I remember to get cold. Vehicle can be used for parts or an everyday vehicle if given a little tender care. Previous owner said it did not have power steering but a mechanic once told me it does have a power steering pump that is not working. I have never bothered looking further into it since it has never been hard to steer. I have listed a reserve simply to avoid it selling for $5.00 or something to that effect. Other than that not looking for a particular price just want to get rid of it before it goes to waste. I am not experienced in mechanics or selling a vehicle so any further information needed please send me an e-mail with any info you would like to know that I have not mentioned.
On Jan-17-14 at 07:46:39 PST, seller added the following information: Just got the car back from the mechanic shop. Mechanic said he drove it longer and further than I have and said he believes the noise is in fact coming from the transmission and he did notice rough shifting and a few slips. But couldn't tell me more since he doesn't work on transmissions just motors. He also said there was some hesitation here and there from the motor that can be easily fixed with a full tune up and some injector cleaner. The car does have power steering which he says worked fine after putting fluid in it but leaked all out of the high pressure line. I priced the line at O'Reilly's for $25. I will buy one and leave in the back seat upon the vehicle selling. On Jan-20-14 at 16:43:06 PST, seller added the following information: Brought it back to the shop today cause it started running horrible. Same mechanic looked at it and said its the same issues with needing a tune up injector cleaner ran through it and so on for sitting up so long. He said no damage has been done from me driving it. Only a day left in the auction so I'm just gonna park it in the mean time. ----------------------------------------------------------- Left up same description from first auction. |

Ford auctioning off F-35-themed 2015 Mustang for charity
Wed, 16 Jul 2014Ford's been a supporter of EAA AirVenture, a huge, annual air show held in Oshkosh, WI, for several years now, with one of its most notable contributions being a modified Ford Mustang, designed to look like one of America's great fighting aircraft. There was an SR-71 Mustang, based on the legendary spy plane, a Red Tails edition, which honored the ground-breaking Tuskegee Airmen of World War II, as well as Blue Angels and Thunderbird Mustangs, based on America's two great military aerial demonstration teams.
Each car is auctioned off, with all proceeds going to the EAA Young Eagles program, which introduces kids to the joy of flight. For the 2014 AirVenture, which runs from July 28 to August 3, the one-off pony car is based on the new-for-2015 Mustang, and America's latest fighting aircraft - the controversial F-35 Lightning II.
The unique Mustang sports titanium paint scheme, with both glossy and matte sections, as well as yellow-and-blue trim and decal elements inspired by CF-1, the first F-35 test plane. A carbon-fiber front splitter and rear diffuser add some visual eye candy, while the interior boasts a set of Recaro seats. Ford also opted to fit unique wheels and a brawnier rear spoiler, to tie everything together.
Jaguar design boss admits X-Type was a mistake
Thu, 19 Sep 2013History has a way of repeating itself, especially in the auto industry. When Jaguar was owned by Ford, the British brand attempted to field a competitor for the BMW 3 Series, called the X-Type. Based on the bones of a Ford Mondeo, it aped the styling of Jaguar's flagship model, the XJ, while borrowing liberally from the Ford parts bin. That was 2001.
Now, in 2013, Jaguar is planning a new 3 Series challenger based on the platform previewed by the C-X17 Concept, while Ford is attempting to take the latest Mondeo upmarket. The moves have both brands recognizing where, why, and how the X-Type failed. "It didn't look mature or powerful or anything. It was just a car," Jaguar's current head of advanced design, Julian Thomson, told PistonHeads. Basing the X-Type on a front-drive car while giving it styling that was meant for a rear-driver lead to proportions that "were plainly wrong," Thomson told PH. Ford's European head of quality, Gunnar Herrmann, added that the X-Type was "a fake Jaguar, because every piece I touch is Ford."
For what it's worth, the X-Type's successor in the segment will sport rear-drive, with plenty of input from Ian Callum. Thomson described the new model, which would challenge the 3 Series as having, "Big wheels right to the ends of the car, low bonnet, short overhangs, very low cabins." Sounds good to us.
Mulally to stay at Ford through end of 2014 at least
Fri, 06 Dec 2013Alan Mulally isn't going anywhere... at least not just yet. The CEO who helped turn around Ford Motor Company has been linked to the top job at tech behemoth Microsoft, leading to a flurry of rumors about potential successors. Those rumors, though, may have just been put to rest - at least for a little while.
Speaking to Edsel Ford II (great-grandson of company founder Henry Ford) at the unveiling of the new Mustang, Automotive News Europe confirmed that Mulally would stick around until the end of next year. "Alan is staying through the end of 2014 and that's all I know," said Ford. "Frankly, he has told us that his plan is to stay with Ford through the end of 2014."
Presuming that Edsel Ford is correct and that Microsoft isn't so hot on Mulally that it saves the position for him, it seems increasingly likely that the 68-year-old exec is more interested in continuing to work in Dearborn rather than in Redmond.
