1973 Ford Econoline E200 123 WB Club Wagon Chateau passenger van

19K original miles. One family owned since new. This is the top of the line model offered in 1973.  The Club Wagon Chateau had many cosmetic upgrades that included significant exterior brightwork and interior upgrades.  It looks as if it were stored in a plastic bubble.  Simply unbelievable.

This unique vehicle is all original with the exception of:

  1. Newer radial tires (spare is original and never touched the ground)
  2. New fitted correct carpet set (have original as well that is in great shape)
  3. Incorrect gas cap (it works fine and is period correct but an original is larger and body colored)
  4. Dealer installed (at time of new vehicle purchase) rear heater under third row seat
  5. Curtains new at time of purchase
  6. Period correct stainless and rubber mud flaps
  7. OE Ford Mag style wheelcovers as offered on 1970's Ford F100 trucks (have perfect original dog dish covers that go with the van)
  8. OPTIMA Battery

There are some imperfections on this van.  Most of the imperfections are factory flaws (fit and finish) as was normal for domestic vehicles during this era.  However, these flaws provide proof to the originality.  There are a few dings and paint chips.  I will be happy to go into detail with any serious buyer. Send me a message with your phone number and I will be happy to call you.

This is not an old van with "Patina".  This is a true Time Warp van that will win best of class against any other original or restored van.

Important notes:

  • Build sheet barely visible under driver's seat.  Left intact.
  • Original assembly markings untouched and visible throughout.
  • All original paint
  • All original upholstery - killer houndstooth
  • All original glass

Mechanical:

Every single mechanical or electrical option, gauge, light, accessory or part works as new.  On cold start up with one tap of the gas pedal, the choke works perfect and starts immediately. The choke goes away as the engine warms up and never stalls, misses or hesitates.  The engine is smooth and has plenty of power. The transmission up-shifts properly and kicks down a gear when called upon. It is an easy van to drive around town and an absolute pleasure on the freeway. There are no leaks rattles or funny noises. The brakes are surprisingly good for non-power drums and there is no pulling whatsoever. I would not hesitate to drive this anywhere except for the constant worry of getting a rock chip or door ding.

Shipping/Delivery:

After full payment is made and the vehicle is insured by the new owner, delivery can be included (if you are flexible on timing) to any major metropolitan US area with an airport that Delta services (except Alaska or Hawaii).  You must contact me before the auction ends to a mutual agreement on timing or this option is not available.  My preference is to see someone in Southern California get it so I can deliver it at Cars and Coffee. People will freak.  Or, the buyer can chose to make other transport/shipping arrangements at their own cost.

Price:

I know this is not a Boss 429 and it is not priced as one.  However, it is a very special character vehicle that quite possibly could be the finest example available.  It is not for sale locally and I will not stop the auction for offers.  I won't divulge the reserve and I will not reply to any questions about price while the auction is running.  It is expensive for an old van but it is cheap for a true collector vehicle that gets more stares, smiles and thumbs up than a Boss 429.

Some people get it....

You can't restore originality and you can't turn back mileage.  To replicate this van with a good solid donor would take a ridiculous amount of money and time.  Some of the pristine parts that are on this van are unobtainable.  Just try to find the exterior pop out window rubber or a mint dash pad......I've been looking for years for another van I have.  If you have ever thought about owning the best 2nd gen Econoline passenger van, look no further.

Ford and Chrysler reducing summer plant shutdowns

Wed, 22 May 2013

Most domestic automaker assembly plants traditionally take a couple of weeks off during the summer. The shutdowns give each plant time for much needed repairs and maintenance, and in some cases, help better align production with demand. Not this year, though, as demand for many models is outstripping what Ford, Chrysler and General Motors plants can produce.
Ford has announced that it will shorten its annual summer shutdown for most North American plants from two weeks to one. The shorter shutdown will increase the carmaker's annual North American production by 40,000 units on top of the 200,000 extra units that it was already planning to produce this year versus last. Automotive News reports that Ford produced 2.8 million vehicles on this continent in 2012, and that output this year has already increased 13 percent through April.
Chrysler, meanwhile, is also operating at full tilt and plans to run some plants through the summer with no shutdown at all. Those not getting a break include Jefferson North where the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango are assembled, Toledo North that will assemble the new Cherokee, and Conner Avenue, home of SRT Viper production. Other assembly plants will be down for a single week, while all of Chrysler's engine and transmission plants except one in Indiana will continue operating with no shutdown this summer.

Ford jumps back in the water with marinized 6.2L V8

Wed, 06 Nov 2013

Nameplates like the Mercury Mariner and Lincoln Navigator aside, Ford hasn't offered a marine engine in over two decades. But through a new partnership with one of the biggest names in the business, the Dearborn-based automaker is dipping its proverbial toes back in the water.
Announced yesterday at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the new partnership between Ford Component Sales and Indmar Marine Engines will see the 6.2-liter V8 from the F-150 SVT Raptor and F-Series Super Duty marinized for use in boats.
The largest privately owned inboard gasoline marine engine manufacturer in the world, Indmar has been in the business for 43 years, and figures the Ford V8 will be just what watersport enthusiasts are looking for to tow waterskiers and wakeboarders to their hearts' content.
