VINTAGE 1977 FORD BRONCO

DESCRIPTION:  If you are looking for a clean, straight forward vintage Bronco then look no further!  This Bronco is extremely clean inside and out.  The value of vintage Broncos continues to escalate.  This is a not only a fun vehicle to own, it's also a sound investment.  It kills me to sell this unique Bronco.  I drove it out to Venice, CA 18 months ago and cruised in style beachside.  I shipped it back to Indianapolis 5 months ago.  This Bronco is ready for you to drive, show and enjoy the classic styling.  I have owned many cars and I have never experienced the love I get from people when I drive this Bronco around town.  It's like being on parade.  Truthfully, people comment so often that it's almost annoying. The color is so beautiful and clean.

I have been amazed how well this Bronco drives.  For a vehicle that is over 35 years old it drives like a dream.  I would be away from Venice for months and it would start right up. You can tell it's never been abused.  The motor runs smooth and quiet.  The power steering makes navigation effortless.  The brakes have been worked on and I have fairly new pads, but I will say it doesn't stop like a modern disc brakes.  It takes getting used to, but they work perfectly.  The body panels are straight and fit very well.  All the doors open and close effortlessly.  I believe my reserve is quite low for this vehicle.  I had it appraised in LA in Sept for several thousand more.

BODY:  This Bronco was solid to start with.  There is a little rust bubbling on the back tailgate and above the windshield wipers, but it's hardly noticeable and could easily be fixed.  The body is original sheet metal.  The body was stripped down to bare metal then primed with epoxy and urethane primers.  I had Ziebart spray the underbody ($400) in October.

FRAME / SUSPENSION:  The frame is extremely clean.  I put on new heavy GVW springs 2 years ago.  They are in great shape.  The rear axle is a 9 inch set with 3.50 gears which is all very tight.  The front axle is a Dana 44 and is set with 3:50 gears, this is also tight and completely rebuilt.  The frame does have one small repair on the front crossmember.  It looks like someone had a tow hood welded on at one time.

ENGINE:  The engine is the original equipment to this Bronco.  I had the engine rebuilt in Venice for $2,000 at ASC Bronco.  They are the best at what they do.  I did a compression check and all 8 cylinders fall within spec (140-145 psi).  It runs very strong and sounds great.

TRANSMISSION:  The transmission is a stock 1977 Bronco 3 speed automatic which was rebuilt 2 1/2 years ago.  The transfer case is a stock Dana 20. which works great.  The shifter moves in & out of gears smoothly.  The front lock hubs are in full functioning order.  The automatic steering column was also completely rebuilt.

WHEELS:  The rims are 15x8 aluminum Ford mods with 32x11.50 mud terrain tires.  The tires have 60% tread and two of the rims have slight pitting.  The tires have lots of life in them.

STEERING:  The Bronco has factory power steering which works great!  The tie rod ends and drag link are good.  All ball joints are in great condition.  There are factory rebuilt drum brakes.  It stops great but it takes getting used to applying a little more force than you do with new cars.

ELECTRICAL:  The entire dash and engine wire harness was removed from the Bronco and fixed.  The wire harness was stripped of old tape.  All lights and turn signals work except the light for the license plate is not working.  I replaced the bulb but for some reason it is not coming on.  Other than that it's great.  The glove box has been replaced.  The factory heater is great.  I am having a small issue with one of the windshield wipers going a bit too high up.  They work, but it's got a glitch.

INTERIOR:  The inside of the Bronco has been completely sprayed with Urethane Bed Liner by a professional dealer.  It looks great.  The seats are OEM Factory Bronco seats.  The seat belts are OEM correct units for this Bronco.  I have a new hardtop that is removable.  This car is simply beautiful.  I installed a new stereo with CD player along with speakers.  They are concealed in a really cool middle console.

EXTRA:  This is a true 77 with gas filter doors on the rear quarter panels.  This was a change made to the 1977 model.

TERMS:  Important!  This Bronco is for sale locally too so I reserve the right to end this auction at any time.  I've been trying to delay selling it because I love it so much but I'm going to put a sign in the window and drive it around.  It is such an attention getting that I'm not sure what will happen.  I'm being honest.  Please do not ask what the reserve is, but make your best offer.  It is also sold as is without any warranty.  I require a $1,000 nonrefundable deposit with in 48 hours of close.  This must be made as a postal money order.  No bank checks.  Cash would be accepted if done in person.  The remaining balance is due in 7 business days.  This has to be cash or wire transfer.  I will not release the Bronco or it's title until full payment is made.  All payments would be made to Will Howe.

SHIPPING:  Yes, I will ship the Bronco but it will be at your expense.  You must make the arrangements or you can come pick it up in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Hennessey completes first VelociRaptor SUV conversion [w/video]

Mon, 20 May 2013

Start with a Ford F-150 SVT Raptor as your base vehicle for modification, and chances are high that you'll end up with something pretty cool. Now, have those modifications done by professional lunatics Hennessey Performance, make the project turning the pickup into an ultra-long SUV, and the result stands a real chance of being a total kick in the ass. Let us present the Hennessey VelociRaptor then, in all of its awesomeness.
Hennessey has taken care in grafting a "Expedition style" rear cabin onto the Raptor, complete with an optional third row. The pictures we have show a cabin that's up to the fit and finish standards of the original Ford truck, too. The cab added over the bed also makes room for a massive load space out back, accessible via split out-folding doors and long enough for a person to lay down in (see video).
Mechanically, the truck-turned-SUV sticks with Ford's stock 6.2-liter V8, rated at 411 horsepower, or can be had with a supercharger and some 600 hp. Hennessey says the stock-motor VelociRaptor will run from 0-60 miles per hour in 7.5 seconds, while the hi-po version takes just 5.9 seconds. The SUV does take some of the off-road ability away from the Raptor, with the company saying it hasn't yet had the opportunity to test its capabilities. On-roading and "moderate off-road duties" are the current prescription.

Ford, Ram in heavy-duty towing spat

Mon, 28 Jul 2014

Every pickup truck commercial has the brand trying to convince us that its model is the biggest, brawniest vehicle on the block. But Ford and Ram appear ready to really throw down the gauntlet and scrap over the towing figures for their heavy-duty models, and it could potentially end up in court.
The issue revolves around what it means to be best in class. Ford claims that its 2015 F-450 (pictured above) has a max tow rating of 31,200 pounds, compared to 30,000 pounds for the Ram 3500 (right). However, both companies market these heavy haulers as having the top towing in their class. According to Automotive News, Ford is threatening legal action if Ram doesn't back down.
The situation isn't as simple as just comparing the numbers, though. First, the two companies calculate their towing capacities differently. Ram adheres to the SAE J2807 rating, while Ford uses its own internal system. Although, as the company introduces new models, they are certified using the SAE standard. "When an all-new F-Series Super Duty is introduced, it also will use SAE J2807," said Ford to Autoblog in an emailed statement.

Ford Transit gets outfitted for prison duty

Wed, 24 Sep 2014

Between the Taurus-based Police Interceptor, the Explorer-based Police Interceptor Utility and the F-150 and Expedition special service vehicles, Ford has no lack of offerings for law enforcement. And now it has one more in the form of the new Transit PTV.
Based on the fullsize Transit van, the Prisoner Transport Vehicle can move as many as 12 prisoners in three separate compartments between detention facilities. Created in collaboration with Pennsylvania-based Havis Prisoner Transport Solutions and with input from Ford's Police Advisory Board, the Transit PTV takes advantage of the Transit's considerable configuration options that include three roof heights, two wheelbases, three lengths and four body-styles - not to mention engine options that include the flex-fuel 3.7-liter V6, 3.5-liter EcoBoost and 3.2-liter Power Stroke diesel.
"Transit PTV is the latest example of Ford's deep commitment to helping provide law enforcement agencies with capable vehicles. This concept proves Transit is upfit-ready and designed to Built Ford Tough standards," said Jonathan Honeycutt, Ford police marketing manager. "Many Police Advisory Board members have had the chance to drive this vehicle and they are excited about it. This new vehicle is tough, smart and efficient - ideal for the needs of law enforcement agencies."
