I purchased this car in May of 2013 after realizing I had sold off all my Italian cars and needed something for last year’s Italian Stampede. After having owned a lower mile CS prior to this one I decided that this was the perfect car for me to actually drive without any concern about eroding its perceived value. So, if you’re looking for a low mile garage queen this ain’t it and if you’re looking for a 100% flawless car, this ain’t it. It is however, a well cared for and mechanically stellar CS that you can drive as much as you like for as long as you choose to.

Service:

6/25/14 – Clutch readout shows 26% use (or 74% remaining)

11/26/13 – oil service, header/cat replacement (L side), New 02 sensors (4)

8/7/13 – resolve oil overfill, drive belt idler adjustment, AC recharge, Updated trans mount install, installed 4 new Bridgestone RE11’s (have about 3k on them and are better than 85%)

5/28/13 – PPI done at Cavallo Motorsports*, Ball joints replaced, alignment done to factory spec

4/6/13 – Cam belt and fluid service, filter replacement, brake system flush

Prior service – was performed on annual basis at F&M in L.A., I confirmed that the clutch had been replaced and that the car had been regularly serviced.

*The PPI was conducted at my expense at Cavallo and I elected to have the ball joints replaced with Hill Engineering bits, and asked that everything that look suspect be replaced. The clutch wear was 23% and compression was as follows: Cyl 1 – 235, Cyl 2 – 240, Cyl 3 – 235, Cyl 4 – 240, Cyl 5 – 235, Cyl 6 – 240,    Cyl 7 – 230, Cyl 8 – 235. SD2 readout was clean.

Items to note:

-        The car has an imperfection on the passenger corner of the nose, I’m not 100% certain that it made its way through the clear bra but it may have. It is less than a pinky nail in diameter.

-        The car also has a tiny chip on the fuel door and one along the leading edge of the driver’s door but both are nearly impossible to catch on pictures.

-        The passenger airbag cover is a bit wavy but really not worth replacing at this point.

Ferrari teases more specs on its Enzo successor

Mon, 24 Dec 2012

On its web site, Ferrari has divulged a little more info about the supercar that will succeed the Ferrari Enzo. The Ferrari magazine reported that everything the Scuderia has learned in Formula One has gone into its soon-to-be-revealed animal, and this latest disclosure shows just how much that's true. We don't know its length or width, but Ferrari says one of the targets for the car was "a reduction in height and wheelbase to match that of the 458 Italia."
Rory Byrne, the Ferrari F1 designer that's been involved in 11 world championships for the team, has spent three years contributing to chassis development. That chassis will be laid up by hand in the company's F1 composites department, each chassis composed of different kinds of carbon fiber and cured in an autoclave, F1 monocoque-style. That's part of where the lighter weight and vastly heightened torsional and beam rigidity versus the Enzo comes from. Just behind the tub - and behind the driver's back - will be the batteries and fuel tank, again, just as on an F1 car.
The cockpit will be personalized to the driver in a way that is rare among road cars, with each seat made-to-measure for the driver and then set in a fixed position in the cabin. The steering wheel and pedal box will move to accommodate pilots. What's more, we're told that "the occupant's feet are at the same level as the driving position." That, and the angle of the seatback, will provide "an extraordinarily racy feeling."

Raikkonen likely to retire from F1 after 2015 [w/poll]

Mon, 07 Jul 2014

Though his irreverent demeanor party-goer image might suggest otherwise, make no mistake about it: at 34 years old (and with 37-year-old Mark Webber out of the race), Kimi Raikkonen is the oldest driver in Formula One. He's three months older than Jenson Button, a good year older than his former wingman Felipe Massa, three years ahead of Adrian Sutil and a good decade beyond the latest crop of up-and-comers on the grid. So it's only natural that we should start wondering how much longer he'll stick around, and now we may have our answer.
Speaking with motorsport journalists at the British Grand Prix this past weekend, the 2007 World Champion and winner of 20 grands prix, Raikkonen indicated that the next season will likely be his last. According to numerous racing news outlets, when asked how long he plans to stay on the grid, the famously terse Finn responded: "Until my contract is finished, and then I will probably stop. That is what I think is going to happen."
Kimi was a relatively unknown entity when Sauber gave him his first drive in F1 back in 2001, upon which he finished in the points on his first race. He moved to McLaren the following season, racked his first podium finishes, and took his first win the season after that. He finishes second behind Fernando Alonso the next season, well ahead of the rest of the pack, and switched to Ferrari two seasons later in 2007, winning the world championship on his first season in red. After just three seasons, Ferrari showed him the door and Kimi left F1 entirely, trying his hand at everything from the World Rally Championship to NASCAR. He returned to F1 with Lotus in 2012, and in a rare move for Maranello, was invited back for this season on a two-year contract.

First Ferrari 458 Speciale A sells for $900k in Beverly Hills

Mon, 13 Oct 2014

The prospect of buying a new Ferrari convertible is by no means an affordable one, but prices can vary greatly. The California T, for example, sells for under $200k. The 458 Spider fetches over $250k. The new F60 America is said to have sold out at around ten times that much. But what about the 458 Speciale A?
We may have yet to receive official pricing, but one customer has paid a whopping $900,000 for the privilege of owning the very first one. Ferrari 458 Speciale A #1/499 was auctioned off at Beverly Hills City Hall on the occasion of Ferrari's 60th anniversary in America. The event, where the F60 America was also unveiled, was held in the presence of Fiat chairman John Elkann, Fiat CEO and Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne, Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa and vice-chairman Piero Ferrari.
Proceeds from the sale will benefit the American chapter of Daybreak, an Italian charity that has worked for the past 25 years to cure rare genetic diseases. The high bid tops that which recently won the first Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat - another extreme eight-cylinder performance machine from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles - although the Challenger itself sells for far less than any Ferrari does.
