Selling my gorgeous 1998 Ferrari F355 F1 GTS which I've owned for six years. The F355 is Ferrari's last V8 of the 20th century and is the last of the classic, sensual, low rear-deck models dating back to the 246. The 360 that followed in 2000 introduced the wedge shape with a big square rear end. What were they thinking? I don't know.

To be clear -- This is NOT the problematic and readily available soft-top convertible Spider model. There is a glut of Spiders on the market. Ferrari produced way too many of them to satisfy the "trophy" demand during the dot-com bubble. If you purchase a Spider, you will not have a rare car and you will most likely have problems with the soft-top which starts at five figures to fix. Good luck with that.

This GTS (targa top) configuration is very rare. Let's do some math...

-- Only 2,577 GTS's were made from the total 355 production run between 1995 and 1999.

-- The F1 paddle-shift transmission arrived with the 1998 model year, so only 529 were produced with it in those last two years before the changeover to the 360.

-- With respect to colors, less than 10% of Ferraris sold are this combination (black/black), which means only about 50 copies of this car exist worldwide. That means maybe 10-15 for the United States.

-- I would say that after 15 years, less than half of those still have fewer than 20,000 miles on them, if they still exist at all. Which leaves...

About FIVE to SEVEN copies of this car in the entire United States! How's that for rare?

I have been tracking the sale of 355's on eBay for the last six years and the last time I saw a 98/99, black/black F1 GTS up for sale was, guess what... This one, five years ago. There have been one or two Black/Tan ones in that same time period.

Now -- More on this car:

Unlike the 360, the F1 transmission on the 355 is totally reliable. I never had any issues with it, nor did previous owners. It is a sophisticated, yet simple system that is basically a manual transmission with an electrohydraulic clutch. Same concept as on their Formula One cars that Schumacher dominated the Grand Prix with.

I am the third owner of the car. Based on good, but inconclusive evidence, I believe that the first owner was a celebrity, if you're into that sort of thing.

It has been an extremely reliable and fun car to own. The only change I made to it was replacing the faulty Ferrari catalytic converters with ones from Hyper-Flow and the result has been a nicely breathing engine with no issues.

I purchased the car in California with 9,400 miles on it and added roughly 8,000 miles over six years; 90% summer highway driving. It's been driven in the rain once. Otherwise it's been plugged in with a trickle charger and covered in a secure garage. I have never driven it on a racetrack.

There is NO leather shrinkage. I had some pieces replaced by a Ferrari dealer in New York right after I bought it.

There are NO sticky parts. They were all repaired and the result is like a brand new console.

It has Michelin Pilot Sport tires, which are in great shape.

The car has only been dealer serviced. I have all the records back to the original purchase in 1998.

I have all the books and tools, as well as two key sets and cover.

I own the title and it is clear.

The car has been well-maintained and serviced and drives like it's brand new. Take note of the AutoCheck score.

The interior looks brand new and the leather still smells like from the showroom.

This car is the real deal. I will miss it, and I would like to see it go to the right owner for its next chapter. I've been a Ferrari enthusiast since I was a kid and I can tell you anything you want to know about this car, and even help you out in your first months of ownership. Having said that, and with all due respect, I am not looking for new friends to car chat with. Please only inquire if you are serious and you have adequate financial resources to close.

If you're looking for a "steal", go buy a Spider and have yourself a Pyrrhic victory dance. If you want a rare specimen with low mileage in collector condition, go for the GTS. Spring is here and the price is right. If you act now, I'll throw in the spare parts catalog which is fun for geeking out on this little marvel of engineering.

The car is currently being stored on Long Island. Visits from serious parties are welcome. Be prepared to be stunned. It's a love-at-first-sight experience.

And one final word: I was not born this morning when it comes to internet fraud. I will only accept PayPal transfers for deposit. For full payment, I will only accept wire transfers or cashier's checks from trusted banks.

LaFerrari, meet YouTube. YouTube, LaFerrari

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

If, for some reason, you feel like we've left anything out of our coverage of the exciting new LaFerrari unveiled today in Geneva, don't fret - Ferrari has us covered. The automaker has graced us with a total of seven videos of its new hybrid supercar today including the original launch video we already showed you this morning.
The six new videos discuss a broad spectrum of topics, such as LaFerrari's overall architecture, carbon fiber chassis and body, driving dynamics and the 160-horsepower HY-KERS (HYbrid Kinetic Energy Recovery System) part of the powertrain. There is also coverage of today's auto show unveiling and, our favorite, a short video showing the car being tested around the Fiorano Circuit plus some bonus footage of past Ferrari supercars like the GTO, F40, F50 and Enzo.
In total, there is almost 30 minutes of video goodness to bring you just about all the information there is to know about LaFerrari, and all seven videos are posted below.

Ferrari to be spun off from Fiat Chrysler

Wed, 29 Oct 2014

The recently merged Fiat Chrysler Automobiles empire has ambitious plans for growth, and it's going to need some big bucks in its coffers in order to enact them. Part of that cash injection is coming from the floating of its IPO on the New York Stock Exchange, but now FCA has announced a further capital campaign to be based on the enormous asset that is Ferrari.
FCA's board of directors has just approved the separation of Ferrari from the rest of the group as a separate entity. Once that separation is complete, Ferrari will put 10 percent of its shares on the stock market "in the United States and possibly a European exchange" as well.
This isn't the first time that the idea of a Ferrari IPO has been raised. Sergio Marchionne, chief executive of Chrysler, Fiat and Ferrari (pictured above), first raised the idea four years ago. Former Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo nixed the idea, but now that he's been discharged, it appears there's nothing to get in the way of Marchionne's desires.

Ferrari F12 gunning for GT-R's Nurburgring lap time?

Tue, 12 Aug 2014

Ferrari may not play the Nürburgring lap time game to the extent that Porsche, Nissan and Radical do, but it has been known to go for some lap times of its own. And now an F12 Berlinetta has been spotted lapping the Nordschleife in an apparent record attempt.
The F12 reportedly had the track all to itself for about an hour and a half, suggesting one of two possibilities: either Ferrari is testing an updated version, or it's going for a lap record with the existing version. While it's impossible to tell what may be going on under the sheetmetal, the communications equipment taped to the roof appear to be the only outward modifications, and would seem to indicate the latter more than the former.
In between warm-up and cool-down laps, the F12 reportedly lapped the circuit in 7 minutes and 48 seconds - which wouldn't be anything spectacular in and of itself, but that lap apparently included 40 seconds of cool-down between T13 and Hatzenbach, suggesting a possible 7:08 lap time. That's the time which Nissan recently recorded in the GT-R Nismo, indicating that Ferrari could be going for Godzilla's top time as the fastest front-engined, street-legal car ever to lap the 'Ring, ahead of the Dodge Viper ACR, Lexus LFA with the Nürburgring Package and Corvette ZR1 (but behind Ferrari's own track-bound 599XX, which clocked a 6:58 lap time four years ago).
