The Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 2+2 unveiled at the 1973 Paris Auto Show was a stunning departure. The name had become so closely associated with Pininfarina’s curvaceous 246 that this new angular shape by Bertone -- which hadn’t done a Ferrari body in years -- was shocking in comparison, add to that the presence of Ferrari’s first production V-8, the fact that this was the marque’s first mid engine 2+2. This Dino pointed Ferrari in a new direction, a departure enhanced by the 308 label, it identified Ferrari’s new 3.0-liter V-8, which mounted transversely behind the small rear seats. Ask anyone, and they’ll tell you that the cars that sported the prancing horse are hand-assembled, high strung exotics, with sophisticated mechanicals. This is a very limited production car, from 1973 to 1980 only 2826 units were built, we have just acquired one for sale. This is a very clean correct example of a PRE-SMOG 1975 308 GT4 2+2, only 3 owners and only 74,000 miles. It is finished in Graphite Gray with Black interior. There were no options they all were equipped the same. There is nothing like the sound of a V8 Ferrari running wide open threw the turns on Hwy 17. #10940. Nigel Mansell's Ferrari F40 sells for $870k
Wed, 15 Oct 2014If you look at the $1.35 million price tag on the new LaFerrari and wonder how Ferrari can possibly charge that much for a single car, you could look at the prices of its competitors like the McLaren P1 that lists for almost as much at $1.15 million, you could look to the $2.5 million which Ferrari is said to have charged for the exclusive F60 America - or you could look at the prices at which LaFerrari's predecessors are still trading. Take, for example, this Ferrari F40 which, 25 years since it was built, just sold for nearly $870,000 at auction.
The F40 in question, a 1989 model, may be just one of 1,315 examples made, but it has a rather noteworthy provenance: the car once belonged to Nigel Mansell, the only driver ever to hold both the Formula One and Indy titles at the same time. That Mansell - a man who had access to some of the fastest and most capable racing cars ever made - selected the F40 as his personal ride of choice speaks volumes about the car's abilities and appeal. But then he did, after all, drive for the Scuderia that season, winning the Brazilian and Hungarian grands prix.
The celebrity provenance, however, may not have actually jacked the price up at all. While it may rank towards the top of the list, this was hardly the highest price paid for an F40 at auction. According to Sports Car Market, which tracks such sales, the record currently belongs to a 1993 Ferrari F40 LM that Bonhams also sold for $2.2 million at Monterey. The highest price for a standard, non-LM model was recorded at the same event at $1.43 million.

The Paris Motor Show is one of the glitziest events on the automotive calendar. Yes, it helps that it's in the City of Light, but the glamorous surroundings only enhance the spectacular wares that automakers bring to the show. This is where Europeans debut their best new cars for the coming year, both as eye-catching concepts and in production trim.
Ferrari chief staying on to launch new models in October
Tue, 09 Sep 2014Luca di Montezemolo has been running Ferrari since 1991. That's a whopping 23 years already, and having been born the same year that Ferrari was founded, Montezemolo is now 67 years old. But don't expect him to be stepping down any time soon.
Addressing the rampant rumors circulating the paddock at Monza this weekend, the hereditary Marquis of Montezemolo (pictured above at the unveiling of the 458 Speciale in Frankfurt last year) insisted that he is not about to leave Ferrari. Not before 2017, anyway, having signed as recently as this past March to stay on another three years. (After that, it's anyone's guess, with some suggesting that controversial Fiat scion Lapo Elkann could take his place.) But in dismissing the rumors, the affable and long-serving Ferrari chairman did reveal some new product plans.
First of all, according to racing site Autosport.com, Luca confirmed that the Prancing Horse marque "will present a fantastic new car" at the Paris Motor Show next month, widely expected to be a new variant of the 458: either the new Speciale Spider or the turbocharged 458 M. While he was at it, though, Montezemolo also revealed a new limited edition model to be presented in California.
