I am selling my 1991 Dodge Shadow “Shelby CSX” convertible to make room for another recent purchase.  I am moving this car due to space limitations, there is no problem with the car.

For the record, the last production vehicles produced by Shelby for Dodge were the 1989 Shelby CSX and Dakota.  Dodge Shadow convertibles were made from 1991-1993.  So this is obviously not a real Shelby, and I am not presenting it as such.

This is really a tribute car, or a concept of what a CSX convertible might have looked like if the relationship had continued into 1991.

This car was made from a 1991 Shadow that had over 100,000 miles.  It was stripped to the shell, and rebuilt using NOS, or like-new components.  The mileage (16,7xx) shown is the true mileage from the conversion.  That is the true mileage for the drivetrain, suspension, etc.

The car is well maintained, clean, and drives like new.  The major flaw is the headliner (the 6” strip) needs to be replaced.  The glue dried, and the fabric was removed when it started sagging.

The highlights of the car include:

?  2.5 L inline four, turbo and intercooled

?  Rear disc brake conversion

?  Koni adjustable shocks with performance springs at all four corners

?  Cross drilled rotors with powerdoated calipers, and SS brake lines.

?  Turbos unleashed Garrett turbo

?  A555 close ratio 5 speed transmission

?  1989 Sheby CSX fabric on doors, seats

?  Recaro front buckets

?  Custom Shelby dash plaque

?  Carroll Shelby autographed tachometer

?  Shelby Turbo boost gauge

?  1989 Shelby CSX ground effects, including front air dam, rear fascia, side skirts with door panels, and grill

?  Fiberride Shelby wheels from an ’89 CSX (Fiberglass composite)

?  Powdercoated gas tank

There is more that I probably cannot think of.  The pictures will tell more than I can say about the condition of the car.  It is garage kept, babied, and wins or places in every car show I have taken it to.  Most recently was awarded a Gold award at the 2014 Florida Mopar Nationals (March), and placed 3rd in the front drive class at the 2013 Don Garlits Mopar Show (Oct ’13).  This is a very fun car to drive, show, and just look at.  Looking for a good home for it!

How to turn a Dodge airport tug into a trail slayer

Sun, 16 Nov 2014

Sometimes, having a ton of fun requires takes a ton of work. Just nine days before the so-called Ultimate Adventure 2014, the folks behind 4-Wheel & Off-Road had 40 tasks to complete in order to turn the ratty truck pictured above into a machine that could excel on treacherous off-road trails while still being able to handle highway jaunts. Much of process behind the build was chronicled on the latest episode of Dirt Every Day.
The team's vehicle started life as a 1990 Dodge tug truck that spent part of its life hauling around airplanes. The builders hung on to the Cummins six-cylinder diesel, but they tossed out practically everything else for the project, with some seriously heavy-duty replacement parts for the transmission, transfer case, axles and a whole lot more. The process was certainly a ton of work, but the end result looks like a fantastic crawler.
Sure, it might have been easier to bring a truck that was already prepared, but where would the fun in that have been? Stay tuned until the end of the video for a few glimpses of the completed Dodge and peek at some of the punishment it goes through.

2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has 707 glorious horsepower [w/video]

Tue, 01 Jul 2014

Hold onto your butts. "600-plus horsepower" is what we were told to expect from the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT with its 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 engine. But as we've just learned, those were incredibly conservative numbers. Dodge has officially announced that the range-topping Challenger will hit the asphalt with 707 - seven hundred and seven - horsepower, making it the "most powerful muscle car ever."
Of course, 707 hp is only part of the story, as the Hellcat has also been confirmed to produce 650 pound-feet of torque. All that power will run exclusively to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission that differs from other Challengers. The new gearbox, 8HP90 (rather than the 8HP70) is "upgraded to handle the extra power and torque," says Dan Reid, SRT's manager of product design and motorsports.
We certainly hope you're prepared to spend a ton of money replacing tires.

Chrysler investing $20M in Toledo plant to support 9-speed auto production

Sun, 28 Apr 2013

In 2011, Chrysler announced a $72-million investment in its Toledo Machining Plant to modernize production of the eight- and nine-speed torque-converters for automatic transmissions made there. That upgrade work won't be finished until Q3 of this year, but Chrysler has already announced a further $19.6-million investment to increase production capacity for the nine-speeders.
The extra units will be necessary because the nine-speed transmission they'll be mated to is going into three popular models: it will debut on the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, then go into the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart. The company predicted that this year alone it would sell 200,000 units equipped with the nine-speed tranny, and it is spending some $374 million in addition to the investment in Toledo to upgrade production capacity for it.
The work attached to this new investment won't begin until Q3 of 2014, and it will be finished by the end of that year. There's a press release below with all the details.
