This is a rare find.
This truck sat outside for years and has lots of surface rust. BUT ONLY SURFACE RUST. The body, fender wells and frame, also, show only surface rust.
The only serious rust was on the floor pan where water collected as a result of the holes in the windshield. I used a fiberglass patch on those.
As you can see from the photos, on the parts of body that I already worked, I took it down to bare metal. (The rusted parts are easier to get to bare metal than the painted patches.)
The radiator and gas tank are gone. Both were rusted as a result of sitting.
I pulled the wheels and replaced the brake wheel cylinders----the brake lining is good and I did not replace them. (I also packed the front wheel bearings and seals) I also replaced the brake master cylinder.
This model has a hydraulic clutch system. I replaced both the master and slave cylinder.
I did a very careful wet start on the engine. I first I pulled spark plugs and squirted oil into all cylinders. I replaced the plugs and let it sit for a month. With the plugs out I rotated the engine until I got oil pressure. Only then did I fire it.
It has a good sounding 318 CI engine and four speed tranny. (I filled the engine block with water and have only ran the engine for short periods.)
I use a motorcycle gas tank to gravity fuel to run the engine. (The motorcycle tank is not included)
I blocked up the rear wheels and took it through the gears. The clutch and tranny seem to be good.
I have an extra rear window and instrument cluster. (Photo)
The tires are fair to poor.
This is a very straight truck and the doors and hood align perfectly.
I have used Ushp.com before and they do reasonable priced hauling.
No Cashier checks (I got burned once with a fake.)
I am 78 and because of health problems I will not be able to complete the project.

2015 Dodge Challenger configurator has all the Hellcat you can dream of
Mon, 08 Sep 2014The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has sucked up a lot of air in the automotive news world this summer, so it's good to know that you can actually go out and, you know, buy the sucker. With 2015 models headed for your local showroom, Dodge has seen fit to also pull the wraps off it's latest Challenger configurator, complete with the supercharged Hemi V8 option that we just can't seem to get enough of.
We're still enamored of the $58,995 starting price for the 707-horsepower SRT, but the online tool finally gives us a chance to see just how optioned up our dream super-muscle coupe can get.
Buyers can choose from three interior treatments and nine paint colors, with two hues (Ivory White and Phantom Black tri-coats) coming for a $500 premium. For $1,795 Laguna Leather SRT bucket seats can be added in place of the (very nice) stock chairs, and a fancier infotaiment system with navigation and HD radio runs $695.
Chrysler recalling 49K Chargers for headlight components
Fri, 14 Mar 2014Chrysler has issued a recall for about 49,375 2011 and 2012 Dodge Chargers with halogen headlamps due to a problem with the lights. The automaker says that there could be an issue with the jumper harness and other related components.
The automaker says that 43,450 cars are affected in the US, 2,850 in Canada, 375 in Mexico and 2,700 outside of North America. The vehicles will have their headlight assemblies, including the jumper harnesses and bulbs, inspected and potentially replaced. Dodge says that its engineers investigated reports of that were similar to what was found when it recalled about 10,000 police Chargers in 2012 for overheating light components. There have been no injuries or accidents related to fault, according to Chrysler.
The automaker will be in contact with affected owners, and schedule the service. Naturally, any repairs will be free of charge. Scroll down for the company's full announcement.
Chrysler expecting up to 200,000 9-speed transmissions for 3 models this year
Tue, 22 Jan 2013Striving for improved fuel economy, we already knew that Chrysler will begin using a nine-speed automatic transmission in some of its new products this year, but what we haven't known is that volume at which this gearbox will be used. According to Bloomberg, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has been quoted as saying that the automaker expects to sell close to 200,000 units equipped with this new transmission in 2013. Those gear-rich trannies will be spread out across three models, consisting of the redesigned Chrysler 200, the still-unnamed Jeep Liberty replacement and the Dodge Dart.
This transmission should play a pivotal role in making Chrysler vehicles more competitive in their respective segments. Just for comparison, one of the Dart's key competitors, the Toyota Corolla, still uses a four-speed automatic, and a previous report indicates that the next-generation 200 could get up to 38 miles per gallon on the highway, which is better than most non-hybrid midsize sedans on the market. Marchionne says that the new Jeep model is expected during the second quarter of this year, but there is no word as to when the new 200 or nine-speed Dart will debut, but clearly Dodge would like to have the transmission in its compact yesterday. As for that volume figure, it definitely doesn't seem out of reach since the Dart, Liberty and 200 combined for a total of more than 225,000 units in 2012.
How many more gears can we expect in future cars? Probably not many more, since the CEO of transmission-builder ZF, Stefan Sommer, previously stated that nine speeds was the "natural limit" for transmissions.
