Wheelchair Conversion Van

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION:

HISTORY:  I purchased this conversion van early in 2013 for my wheelchair bound father.  It worked well for our purposes, but he passed away the end of last year, so it’s time for a new owner to make use of this specialized vehicle.

It is a REWAV full-cut lowered floor conversion installed by New Mobility Solutions in Jackson, MI.  The conversion was brand new when purchased, and it still smells brand new inside.  We immediately installed a set of Cooper CS4 225/65R16 tires, and have driven it less than 2,000 miles since our purchase.

I ran an AutoCheck report before buying the van.  It checked out clean and qualified for their Buyback Protection Plan with a score of 85 (79 – 85 range for similar vehicles).

This Type of rear entry wheelchair van is easy to use.  You just open the rear hatch, unlock and drop down the ramp, wheel the chair up the ramp, and attach the included four Q’straint retractable restraints.  The restraints are removable with a quick release system and can easily be removed when loading and unloading the wheelchair.  There are a number of attachment locations and the rear seats can be removed for more versatility.  Wheelchair passenger lap/shoulder belts included in the package from Q’straint.

This rear entry van is much more practical than the side entry vans I looked at.  With the side entry you need a very wide parking spot to load and unload the wheelchair.  The rear entry only needs a regular parking space.  Plus you don’t have the maintenance and complications of the electric or hydraulic lift systems.

Although there are over 100K miles on the vehicle, it is in fine condition and very clean.  The original owner of the van used it in a commuter vanpool putting mostly highway miles on it.

You won’t go wrong with this wheelchair van.  It is ready to go and be used for the purpose for which it was converted!

SPECIFICATIONS:  3.3L V6 OHC Engine, 4-Speed Automatic Transmission, 4-Wheel ABS Brakes, Front Disc/Rear Drum Brakes, Front Wheel Drive, Rack & Pinion Steering, 225/65R16 Tires, 20.5 Gallon Fuel Tank, 121.2” Wheelbase, 202.5” O/A Length, 76.9” O/A Width, 68.9” O/A Height.

FEATURES:  Power Windows, Driver Airbag, Passenger Airbag, Side Head Curtain Airbags, Keyless Entry, Power Door Locks, Air Conditioning, Rear Heat/AC Controls, AM/FM/CD Stereo, Interval Wipers, Anti-Theft System, Stability Control System, Tilt Steering Column, Rear Window Defogger, Rear Wiper, 12V Front & Rear Power Outlets.

How fracking is causing Chrysler minivans to sit on Detroit's riverfront

Fri, 25 Apr 2014

It's fascinating the way that one change to a complex system can have all sorts of unintended consequences. For instance, there are hundreds of new Chrysler Town and County and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans built in Windsor, Ontario, sitting in lots on the Detroit waterfront because of the energy boom in the Bakken oil field in the northern US and parts of Canada.
The huge amount of crude oil coming from these sites mostly use freight trains for transport, and that supply boom has resulted in a shortage of railcars to carry other goods. According to The Windsor Star, North American crude oil transport by train has gone from 9,500 carloads in 2008 to 434,032 carloads in 2013. Making matters worse, some North American rail infrastructure is still damaged because of this year's harsh winter, and that's slowing things down even further.
Chrysler admits to The Star that it has had some delivery delays due to the freight train shortage. In the meantime, it's using more trucks to deliver its vehicles. Trucking is a far less economical solution, partially because a train can carry so many more units at one time, but alternatives are slim. The Windsor plant alone has a deal for 33 trucks to distribute the minivans around Canada and the Midwestern US.

Chrysler readying 20 Moparized vehicles for SEMA

Tue, 08 Oct 2013

The Las Vegas Convention Center has plenty of space for aftermarket companies and automakers to show off their wares, and it looks like Chrysler is taking advantage of the spacious floor plan. At next month's SEMA Show, Chrysler will have a full 20 cars from its six brands decked out with Mopar gear.
As a hint of what is to come, Chrysler released a handful of teaser sketches showing glimpses of modified Jeep Cherokee, Ram 1500, Fiat 500L and Chrysler 300 concept vehicles. The automaker will also use the venue to show off a new line of Jeep Performance Parts offered by the all-new Mopar Off-Road Division. In addition to the images, Chrysler also issued a brief press release - posted below - breaking down some of the "industry-first features" that Mopar has offered in recent years.

2014 Dodge Journey Crossroad

Thu, 17 Jul 2014

Watchers of the auto industry will notice a theme among the formerly bankrupted American automakers, General Motors and Chrysler. There are the post-bankruptcy vehicles, and the pre-bankruptcy vehicles. The former, in the case of Chrysler, include the Jeep Grand Cherokee, as well as the 200 and 300. For GM, there's the Cadillac ATS, Chevrolet Impala and Buick Encore, among others. These vehicles have the freshest styling, with sharp exteriors and well-crafted interiors, as well as advanced powertrains and well-sorted chassis.
As for the pre-bankruptcy vehicles, they tend to be easy to spot. Most suffer from inferior driving dynamics, cheaper interiors, poorer fuel economy and often homely looks (we know, there were some decent cars before the bankruptcy, but they were pretty heavily outweighed by the bad ones). Think late, last-generation Chevrolet Impala or Chrysler 200. Increasingly, though, we're seeing vehicles that split the balance between pre- and post-bankruptcy. Vehicles like the Dodge Journey.
The Journey debuted in 2007 as a 2008 model year vehicle, meaning it should fall into the latter category. But heavily breathed upon in 2011, it now enjoys a new, 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, a big, critically acclaimed touchscreen display and in the case of today's tester, a new-for-2014 Crossroad spec.
