1972 Dodge Dart Custom 4 door sedan: V8 (318,) electronic ignition, AT, AC, PS, PB, disc front brakes, 7-1/4 (2.76 rear end), after market cruise control, non-original stereo with rear speakers, 3 tube radiator (after market).  We have owned the car since 1992 and it is my wife’s daily driver and our car for long trips.  We have put on 230,000 miles and the car’s total mileage is 330,000.

Vinyl top is in excellent condition, probably because the car has been garaged since we bought it.  Rear quarters were replaced in 2000.  Rebuilt heads were installed in 2002, new fuel lines in 2012.  Interior is in good condition except for headliner tear in rear.  Front bench seat was replaced from a 1970 A-body (have original seat if wanted.)  All tires are good; includes mounted snow tires.  Recently the power steering gearbox was replaced: Bergmanautocraft@verizon.net which is a Jeep Cherokee gear modified for use in Chrysler products.  This is a quick ratio unit (3 1/2 turns vs. 4 turns) and eliminates all play associated with the Chrysler boxes.  This unit cost us about $1100.  Also recently replaced was the K-frame, lower and upper control arm bushings, Pitman and idler arms, power steering pump and new rear brake cylinders (7/8).  It has had a recent alignment.  The transmission was rebuilt in 2008.  We’ve changed oil and filters every 3000 miles.  Servicing and mechanical work was done by the owner-mechanic.

The car looks and drives very well but has a few rust issues.   The front floors have been patched as well as the rear wheel wells in spots. The area near the right rear spring perch has rust issues. The right rear torsion bar was reinforced but is rusty again.  The front fenders are rusted out at bottom.  Most of these problem areas can be seen in the photos.

Included with the car are the shop manuals, a good extra 7-1/4 rear end, the original 318 V8 engine (which turns over) plus extra mechanical parts if desired.   Car is being sold as is.

Chrysler recalling 780k minivans over fire risk

Fri, 09 May 2014

Chrysler is recalling 780,000 of its Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans from the 2010 to 2014 model years due to the possibility of circuits overheating, which can lead to a fire. Of the 780,000 total vans being recalled, Chrysler estimates that 644,850 are in the US, 106,980 are in Canada, 8,009 are in Mexico, and 20,638 are in other markets. All of the affected vehicles were built between August 25, 2010 and October 31, 2013.
Chrysler's engineers discovered that beverage spills or exposure to moisture (from rain, snow, car washes, and the like) were linked to circuits shorting in the window switch assembly. Short circuits can overheat, and thus, cause a fire.
Chrysler will contact owners and let them know when they may schedule service, at which point, the window switches will be replaced. In the interim, the automaker says that owners may visit their dealers after May 14 to have the switches disconnected.

Dodge Journey gets more SUV-like look with new Crossroad model

Fri, 31 Jan 2014

Looking to play up its aging three-row crossover, Dodge will introduce a new model for its Journey franchise at next week's Chicago Auto Show. The 2014 Dodge Journey Crossroad will be a new trim level positioned between the SXT and Limited, and it will be distinguished from other Journey models thanks to a handful of styling add-ons.
Plucking a page right out of the appearance playbook of the Ford Explorer Sport, the Journey Crossroad gets a meaner, more SUV-like demeanor. The Journey has often straddled the line between tall wagon and crossover, but this new trim goes a long way toward skewing its visuals toward the utility vehicle end of the spectrum. That's thanks largely to the Platinum chrome exterior trim on its roof rails and side sills, unique fascias, smoked headlights and taillights and, of course, those black 19-inch wheels. Inside, the Journey Crossroad will get a similar treatment, with darker, Liquid Graphite accents throughout the cabin, and the model will also come standard with leather seats (which Dodge says are a new design), and Chrysler's giant 8.4-inch Uconnect screen.
The 2014 Journey Crossroad goes on sale this spring with a starting price of $24,995 (*not including $995 for destination) for the four-cylinder, front-wheel-drive model, but Dodge says that the model will also be offered with more power and capability from the optional 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and all-wheel-drive. Scroll down for the full press release, and check back next week for our live coverage from Chicago.

Chrysler almost smothered the Hellcat before it lived

Thu, 06 Nov 2014

Chrysler's 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 was an absolute sensation from the very moment it was announced, and honestly, how could it not have been? Packing 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, its numbers immediately put every other production muscle car (and many supercars) to shame. Plus, we soon learned that would be wrapped in a package retailing for around $60,000 - a pittance compared to other vehicles offering similar grunt. However, the Hellcat almost never got the chance to rumble under the hood of the Challenger and Charger.
The Hellcat was initially proposed back in 2011, back when Fiat was deciding its future strategy for Chrysler Group, according to Automotive News. At the time, the company was just emerging from its bankruptcy doldrums, and an ultra-high-performance V8 wasn't exactly a must-have item. The program didn't move forward. However, SRT engineers kept fighting, according to AN, and four months later, they received the green light to pull the project off the shelf and continue developing the Hellcat. The muscle car world is certainly better for that decision.
The work of those engineers focused on taking Chrysler's standard 6.2-liter V8 and making it reliably handle all of the extra power from the supercharger. "It came down to micron levels of changes in the crank to be able to withstand the pressures of the engine," said Chris Cowland, director of advanced and SRT powertrain, to Automotive News. The changes amounted to switching out about 91 percent of the parts to make the Hellcat, including some quite minuscule alterations. For example, the washer holding the supercharger pulley is embedded with industrial diamonds to keep it from slipping.
