I am selling my friends 1970 Super Bee. It was 90% restored a few years ago. We ran out of time to finish the complete restoration but we got it to a drivable condition . No major work is needed to make this car in perfect condition or back to OEM. The car is insured and Pa. inspected . The car had a 440 6 pack motor when we started the restoration [ not the factory 6 pack motor] with a 4 speed . Now it has a Ray Barton Race Engine stroked 493 engine with a 6 pack {long block was over $10,000}. All carbs were rebuilt and now the secondaries are mechanical [not sure were the factory vacuum secondarily carbs are] and were dyno tune with engine. Engine produced 569 hp and 639 torque on the dyno. There are hooker headers that goes to a 2 1/2 inch exhaust with a x pipe and 40 series flow-master mufflers  It has a shatter proof bell housing with a center-force clutch with a Keisler hydraulic clutch master and slave cylinder. The 4 speed trans is steel casing that has a pistol grip shifter, drive shaft loop, solid u-joints that go to a Dana 60 rear with 3.54 gears with coil over shocks. There are new leaf springs that have 6 leafs on one side and 7 leafs on the other side. Both front and rear bumpers were re-chromed. The weather stripping is all in great shape, most of the weather stripping was replaced.  There are way to much to list but here are some of what it has: bolt in sub frame connectors, Be-Cool radiator, electric fan and mechanical fan also, line lock {not wired up } is installed in the brake system, Mallory Unilite distributor with surge protector, Mallory rev limiter, Holley fuel pump, dual oil filters, new complete under hood engine harness from Year One, Flaming River steering gear box{OEM box also comes with car}, all the front end was replace including all 4 ball joints, poly bushings, tie rods, idler arm, strut rod bushings, KYB Gas Adjust front shocks, front disc brakes{new rotors, pads and calipers},  Crane vacuum canister for power brakes, there is a Year One engine torque strap, new gas tank, dual 1000 cranking amp batteries mounted in trunk, new carpet, front bench seat{rare factory set up with 4 speed trans}, there are Center Line alloy rims, front are 15x6 and rear are 15x10. Car has been garage kept for over most of it life. There is no major rust and little surface rust. Car has been done since 2005 and has had about 200 to 300 miles per year of driving on it. Any parts that we replaced and still have will go with the car. Car has never seen the race track ever.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles recalls nearly 750k vehicles in two campaigns

Thu, 16 Oct 2014

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling a total of 747,817 vehicles in the US in two separate campaigns recently added to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration database.
The first one covers about 434,581 units of the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Challenger, Durango, and Jeep Grand Cherokee from the 2011-2014 model years with electric hydraulic power steering, the 3.6-liter V6 engine and a 160 amp alternator, according to FCA. In the affected vehicles, it's possible for the alternator to fail without warning and possibly cause the car to stall. According to the documentation submitted to NHTSA, the automaker began investigating the problem in August 2014 and has found possible evidence of one crash caused by the failures but no known injuries.
Customers will begin receiving notification about the recall next month, and obviously the repairs will be done at no cost to them.

Chrysler almost smothered the Hellcat before it lived

Thu, 06 Nov 2014

Chrysler's 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 was an absolute sensation from the very moment it was announced, and honestly, how could it not have been? Packing 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, its numbers immediately put every other production muscle car (and many supercars) to shame. Plus, we soon learned that would be wrapped in a package retailing for around $60,000 - a pittance compared to other vehicles offering similar grunt. However, the Hellcat almost never got the chance to rumble under the hood of the Challenger and Charger.
The Hellcat was initially proposed back in 2011, back when Fiat was deciding its future strategy for Chrysler Group, according to Automotive News. At the time, the company was just emerging from its bankruptcy doldrums, and an ultra-high-performance V8 wasn't exactly a must-have item. The program didn't move forward. However, SRT engineers kept fighting, according to AN, and four months later, they received the green light to pull the project off the shelf and continue developing the Hellcat. The muscle car world is certainly better for that decision.
The work of those engineers focused on taking Chrysler's standard 6.2-liter V8 and making it reliably handle all of the extra power from the supercharger. "It came down to micron levels of changes in the crank to be able to withstand the pressures of the engine," said Chris Cowland, director of advanced and SRT powertrain, to Automotive News. The changes amounted to switching out about 91 percent of the parts to make the Hellcat, including some quite minuscule alterations. For example, the washer holding the supercharger pulley is embedded with industrial diamonds to keep it from slipping.

I sold my Viper, but the memories I'll keep

Thu, 30 May 2013

The following is written by auto industry veteran Tow Kowaleski. The words are his own, but the memories now belong to everyone thanks to his willingness to share. If you're an industry veteran with a story to share, contact us at tipsATautoblogDOTcom.
It became the flame that started the fire of belief in the next life of Chrysler.
I just sold a car. Nothing new. Millions do it every day. But my car was a 1995 Dodge Viper, so maybe it was a bit more unique since just 12,000 were built. And like others selling a car that's been a part of the family for close to 20 years, this was a confluence of emotions for me. I was sad to see it go, but happy to have the cash and one less big, shiny, under-utilized object in my life.
