1970 Dodge Charger
This Mopar muscle car is more go than show, but still turns heads. Always garaged and well-maintained, this Charger is perfect as a weekend warrior. Details about the body and interior can be found below, but this car is in great shape. Much of this car is not original, and has been through at least one good restoration. Looking for a Charger that needs very little work to start cruising on Friday and Saturday nights? This is your car. Need a great starting point for a full restoration? Here you go. Have a neighbor that thinks his hot-rod is a world beater? He hasn’t seen this, yet.

Body:
Restored in approximately 1995. Is in good overall condition, but not quite show quality. Paint is in decent condition, especially for its age. Does have the usual small rust spots, but no major rust damage or holes. Driver-side front quarter panel was damaged in a tire blow-out, may need replaced or repaired. Floor pans, engine bay, and trunk are all very clean, rust-free, and solid. Doors, hood, and trunk lid open and close very solid. Headlight doors are missing the motor and must be opened manually.

Interior:
Very good overall condition. Carpet is in excellent shape and clean. Dash and gauges in good condition, although speedometer does not function (but factory clock does). Aftermarket tach gauge. Seats are in great shape, no major rips or tears. Door panels are new and great condition. Headliner is perfect.

Engine:
Small block V8 Dodge (360-LA series), 408 cubic inch displacement. Professionally rebuilt in 2007, less than 250 miles driven since rebuild. Block was stripped, cleaned, checked, and bored 0.030 over. New stroker crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, etc. Edelbrock aluminum heads, ported and polished, bench flow tested and match-ported to intake. Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock carburetor, Hooker headers. MSD ignition, March Performance pulleys, March Performance power steering pump, electric fan set-up. Professionally dyno tested following rebuild to have 525 horsepower and 530 foot pounds of torque.

Transmission:
904 automatic 3-speed transmission, professionally rebuilt. New shift kit, rings, and valve body. New high-stall torque converter, deep aluminum pan, and shift kick-down linkage. Includes drive-shaft loop for safety.

Rear-end:
Rebuilt 8 3/4 ” rear-end with 3.91 gear ratio. Auburn gears and locking-differential. Axle housing completely stripped, cleaned, and powder coated. SSBC 10.5” rear disc brakes (all brakes power-assisted).

The fine print:
The photos in this listing are from March 13, 2014. These cars are becoming more rare and hard to find by the day. This Charger has an absolute blast to own and drive, it is impossible to go anywhere without garnering attention. The car is not a show-quality unit, but is also not show-quality priced. The asking price for this Mopar is $22,500, no trades or considerations. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

2015 Dodge Viper getting small increase in power

Tue, 29 Jul 2014

The Viper is used to being the most powerful car in the Dodge and SRT stables, but the arrival of the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat means that's no longer the case. The serpentine supercar is, however, reportedly getting a small boost in output for 2015, amounting to all of five horsepower.
The increase was uncovered by Road & Track courtesy of the SAE J1349 certification process to which Detroit's Big Three automakers submit themselves and which reports the Viper's output at 645 hp instead of the 640 it was rated at until now. There are a hundred factors that could have contributed to the relatively mild boost in output (best guess? nothing at all changed...), but we doubt anyone's going to complain about some extra horses under the hood.
The five-horsepower boost brings the Viper that much closer to the 650-hp Chevy Corvette Z06, not to mention the 707-hp Hellcat, but the Viper's impressive power-to-weight ratio ought to mean it'll have little problem keeping up in a straight line - which is just one of the reasons why Chrysler won't shoe-horn the Hellcat into the Viper: as R&T points out, the supercharged engine is too heavy and the blower makes it too tall to fit in the Viper's engine bay.

Detroit's new fleet of donated police cars have safety issues [w/video]

Wed, 23 Oct 2013

In a show of generosity in mid-August, Detroit's business leaders donated $8 million to the Police Department and Fire Department in order to buy 100 new police vehicles and 23 EMS ambulances. But now officers have discovered - and complained - that the police vehicles have glaring safety issues, Deadline Detroit reports. It is not made clear what models of the fleet vehicles - which include police versions of the Ford Taurus, the Chevrolet Caprice and the Dodge Charger - are affected by the safety issues.
Officers reportedly have complained that the Plexiglass partition separating front-seat officers and back-seat prisoners is easily breached, and that the front passenger seat is installed too close to the dashboard. Prisoners who manage to writhe out of their handcuffs can bend the Plexiglass and reach into the cockpit, and sitting too close to the dashboard can render airbags more dangerous and make officers more vulnerable to injury in a crash.
Mark Diaz, president of the Detroit Police Officers Association, received the complaints and reportedly said the vehicles would get safety updates addressing the issues. But Deadline Detroit reports that it checked some of the offending police cars and, as of the last few days, they hadn't been updated.

Chrysler investing $20M in Toledo plant to support 9-speed auto production

Sun, 28 Apr 2013

In 2011, Chrysler announced a $72-million investment in its Toledo Machining Plant to modernize production of the eight- and nine-speed torque-converters for automatic transmissions made there. That upgrade work won't be finished until Q3 of this year, but Chrysler has already announced a further $19.6-million investment to increase production capacity for the nine-speeders.
The extra units will be necessary because the nine-speed transmission they'll be mated to is going into three popular models: it will debut on the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, then go into the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart. The company predicted that this year alone it would sell 200,000 units equipped with the nine-speed tranny, and it is spending some $374 million in addition to the investment in Toledo to upgrade production capacity for it.
The work attached to this new investment won't begin until Q3 of 2014, and it will be finished by the end of that year. There's a press release below with all the details.
