Everyone dreams of this story... I received an email about this car through my website www.moparmontana.com in July of this year. The email was about a one-owner Phoenix-based numbers matching 383 Magnum 4 speed Charger with factory A/C that might be available for sale. In August, I was able to obtain the car from the widow of the ORIGINAL owner.
This is an exceptional example of a well maintained car that the one owner took extraordinary pride in. It is not exactly a "survivor", yet is not "restored". It is simply a extremely nice car that the one-owner treated with love and respect for the past forty-five years. The trunk had two boxes of receipts for every single part, belt, hose, filter, u joint, and tire for the past four decades. It was his pride and joy, which is why the wife took 25 years to resell it after he passed.
It was resprayed to a very high level in the late '80s and still presents very well. I assume that the bumble bee stripe was added at that time. It still has a high gloss and is perfectly straight. The chrome and bright work are perfect with exception of a ding in the drip rail trim over the driver door (see photo). The interior is perfect. The vinyl top is perfect. The glass is perfect. Everything works except A/C which needs a charge. Being from Phoenix for most of it's life, there is no rust. The gaps are perfect. The chrome is perfect... The interior trim is perfect except for a few minor cracks in the plastic around the radio bezel. No cracks in the wheel, dash pad, seats, etc.
I did not detail, or even wash the car for these photos. All I have done since I purchased it is brakes, tune up, lube, and all fluids. As far is I know it was last washed 25 years ago, and has been under cover ever since. It was on jack stands, under a car cover, when I went to pick it up at a condo in Phoenix. After recommissioning it, I have put less than 400 miles on it.

Dodge Viper recall requires small-handed mechanics
Fri, 25 Apr 2014It has been over a year since Chrysler first announced its recall of 3,660 2003-2004 Dodge Vipers because the airbag could suddenly deploy. The repairs are finally beginning, and it appears to be a nightmare for mechanics.
According to the automaker's filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the airbag control module can fail, which causes the bag or the seatbelt pre-tensioner to deploy without warning. It took over a year to design the new parts, according to The New York Times. However, Chrysler finally has a new "jumper harness with an in-line diode filter circuit" ready to fix the problem.
The dilemma now moves to the mechanics who have to actually install the part. A 47-step guide from Chrysler explains that the procedure should take about two hours. It's not an easy job, though. Most of the dashboard has to be taken apart, and the instructions include this helpful bit of advice: "Installing the jumper harness and filter box into position is not an easy task. Patience, perseverance, and small hands are required." We wish the best of luck to them. The fix comes just in time for the Vipers to enjoy the summer sun.
1979 Dodge Li'l Red Express in Generation Gap showdown with 1933 Ford Pickup
Fri, 18 Jul 2014Auto enthusiasts love a good debate, whether it's Mustang versus Camaro or Ferrari against Lamborghini. But how about a battle between two very different vintages of classic pickup trucks? In this case, the fight is between a 1979 Dodge Li'l Red Express and a 1933 Ford Model 46 truck with a flathead V8.
The shootout comes courtesy of the internet series Generation Gap, and its concept is super-simple. One guy prefers classics, and the other likes newer rides. They choose a category, pick two vehicles and put them head to head. In this case, neither is exactly modern, though. The Ford is more than old enough to receive Social Security checks, and the Dodge is hardly a young whippersnapper.
Other than both being pickups, these two models were made to serve very different functions. The Li'l Red Express was basically the progenitor of today's muscle trucks, with a big V8 that made it one of the quickest new models in its day (admittedly, 1979 was a rough time for automotive performance). On the other hand, the '33 Ford was just meant to work, with little pretense for anything else. One of the hosts describes it as "the simplest, most difficult" vehicle he's driven because of the tricky double clutchwork necessary to shift gears. Scroll down to watch the video and try to decide which of these two American classics you would rather have in your garage.
Chrysler recalling 780k minivans over fire risk
Fri, 09 May 2014Chrysler is recalling 780,000 of its Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans from the 2010 to 2014 model years due to the possibility of circuits overheating, which can lead to a fire. Of the 780,000 total vans being recalled, Chrysler estimates that 644,850 are in the US, 106,980 are in Canada, 8,009 are in Mexico, and 20,638 are in other markets. All of the affected vehicles were built between August 25, 2010 and October 31, 2013.
Chrysler's engineers discovered that beverage spills or exposure to moisture (from rain, snow, car washes, and the like) were linked to circuits shorting in the window switch assembly. Short circuits can overheat, and thus, cause a fire.
Chrysler will contact owners and let them know when they may schedule service, at which point, the window switches will be replaced. In the interim, the automaker says that owners may visit their dealers after May 14 to have the switches disconnected.
