This Challenger is a project that I started about 10 years ago.  I replaced the quarter panels, sandblasted all the surface rust from the floors, wheel wells, and trunk.  The engine bay is repainted as well as the floors, door jams and trunk floor.  The work is quality and this will be a very nice car for whomever finishes it.  The engine is a 383 out of a 69 Chrysler Newport.  It has been bored/honed to fit new KB Hyperutectic pistons with 9.5:1 compression.  The 906 heads have hardened seats and are fully machined including a fresh valve job.  It has a mild cam and an Edelbrock 4 barrel intake.  The engine was built by a local racer and professional engine builder.  The interior is in the process of being done, all new coverings from Legendary.  All of the seat frames were sandblasted before being reassembled.  I started this car in college, moved out of state for a job, and the car sat in my Dad's garage.  It has been there for about 8 years.  Two years ago I moved back home and started working on the car again.  I started working on the body and that is when I got the paint and supplies, over $1,200 for the paint products alone.  The paint is FE5 Rally Red from Sherwin Williams automotive.  It is top of the line paint, Ultra 7000, this is the high line for Sherwin Williams and from my experience a very nice quality paint.  I have painted several projects with this paint and always appreciated its quality.  The body work that has been done is professional level and this will be an easy car to finish.  It is very dusty from sitting, but the paint work is very nice.

The car was originally a frost green metallic with dark green interior, but I thought red would look a little better.  In 1974 the Rally option was available on all models of Challenger and this car has the Rally package.  It was originally a 318 car and I have the numbers matching engine that will go with it if needed.  It has the power bulge Rally hood, Rally gauges with 7,000 rpm tach, Slap Stick automatic with console.  I have done a tremendous amount of work on this car and I would say that it is 70% done, but it would need a paint job and to be put back together.  All of the interior is purchased and comes with the car including a new headliner, all new Legendary seat covers, beautiful door panels, and everything else that is needed to complete the car.
The reserve is set low as I need to sell this car.  I just purchased another car and I am out of room and money.  Recently when I took the pictures, I replaced the gas, changed the cars oil, and got it running.  It has a lifter that is tapping, but I suspect this will go away as the car is driven a bit.  I have only driven it from my Mom's garage to my Dad's storage garage and there it has sat for the last 8 years or so.  It has a total of 2.5 miles on the new engine and freshened transmission.  It has a clean title and is ready for sale.  $500 deposit required within 48 hours and the balance on pick up.  Shipping within a reasonable distance may be possible, please ask and we will see what we can work out.  I have a box of receipts and pictures of the work that was done.  I have spent well over the reserve price in parts alone!  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.  My cell is 702-371-2302, Jeremy.  I would consider a 1968-70 Road Runner or GTX project as a potential trade.  This will make a great car for some lucky person!

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat #0001 raises $825,000 for charity

Sun, 28 Sep 2014

$60,000 doesn't strike us as a lot to pay for a muscle car with 707 horsepower on tap. $825,000... now that's a different story. But, according to the official SRT blog, that's how much one generous and eager buyer paid for the privilege of getting his (or her) hands on the very first new Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.
Decked out in Stryker Red paint that's usually reserved for the Viper, the supercharged Challenger bearing the VIN 0001 went up for auction at the Mandalay Bay hotel and casino in Las Vegas on Saturday under the auspices of Barrett-Jackson. By the time bidding ended, the gavel dropped at $825,000 - nearly 14 times the sticker price - 100 percent of which will benefit Opportunity Vehicle, a charity that aids the intellectually handicapped in the Las Vegas Area.

Chrysler expecting up to 200,000 9-speed transmissions for 3 models this year

Tue, 22 Jan 2013

Striving for improved fuel economy, we already knew that Chrysler will begin using a nine-speed automatic transmission in some of its new products this year, but what we haven't known is that volume at which this gearbox will be used. According to Bloomberg, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has been quoted as saying that the automaker expects to sell close to 200,000 units equipped with this new transmission in 2013. Those gear-rich trannies will be spread out across three models, consisting of the redesigned Chrysler 200, the still-unnamed Jeep Liberty replacement and the Dodge Dart.
This transmission should play a pivotal role in making Chrysler vehicles more competitive in their respective segments. Just for comparison, one of the Dart's key competitors, the Toyota Corolla, still uses a four-speed automatic, and a previous report indicates that the next-generation 200 could get up to 38 miles per gallon on the highway, which is better than most non-hybrid midsize sedans on the market. Marchionne says that the new Jeep model is expected during the second quarter of this year, but there is no word as to when the new 200 or nine-speed Dart will debut, but clearly Dodge would like to have the transmission in its compact yesterday. As for that volume figure, it definitely doesn't seem out of reach since the Dart, Liberty and 200 combined for a total of more than 225,000 units in 2012.
How many more gears can we expect in future cars? Probably not many more, since the CEO of transmission-builder ZF, Stefan Sommer, previously stated that nine speeds was the "natural limit" for transmissions.

2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat

Wed, 29 Oct 2014

Including all-wheel-drive models, there are ten versions of the 2015 Dodge Charger. The tenth variant - better described as the ten-tenths variant and the topmost model - is this Charger SRT Hellcat.
Superficially, you already know what it is: take the massively powerful Hellcat engine that's Frankensteined into the Dodge Challenger and stitch it into the recently facelifted Charger sedan.
Oh, but that would be superficial knowledge indeed. Russ Ruedisueli, vehicle line executive and head engineer for SRT, claims the Charger Hellcat is, "The industry's most irreverent four-door supercar." We looked up the word "irreverent" in the Oxford dictionaries, and it turns out the word doesn't mean "707 horsepower," nor "650 pound-feet of torque" nor "3.7-second 0-60 time, and seats five adults." It does mean, "Showing a lack of respect for people or things that are generally taken seriously."
