1970 Dodge Challenger Convertible Jh27c0 1 Of Only 91 Made With 3 Speed on 2040-cars

US $19,000.00
Year:1970 Mileage:1
Location:

Bangor, Maine, United States

This is a 1970 Challenger Convertible that is a factory 6 cylinder car with a 3 speed manual trans.  They only made "91" 6 cylinder 3 speed manual challenger ragtops in 1970.   The original /6 is long gone.  The original 3 speed manual trans is still in the car with all linkage hooked up.   The car has an 8 3/4 in it now.  No idea what is has for gear ratio as we have not checked.  The challenger comes with a 1972 340 engine.  The prior owner stated it is a forged crank 340.  Engine needs a complete rebuild and I have no history on the motor except that is came out of a Challenger.

This convertible is a project car.  A project car that is located in the Northest and has probably spent a considerable amount of time here.  It has most of the convertible specific parts and they are in pretty nice shape with exception of the sunvisors.  The rear view mirror bezel is missing.   The car is a power top car and the convertible motor is still in place. The lines are however cracked and therefore the top now goes up and down by hand.  The convertible frame appears to be in very nice condition.  The convertible windshield trim inner and outer is very nice. The rear convertible trim is there as well and only needs a couple dings banged out and repolished.  The convertible rear door panels have speaker holes in each one.  One is brown and has been dyed, the other is an original black one.  The rear convertible seat has a solid frame and also has the boot channel intact.  The car comes with a new convertible white top with glass back window.  The seat cores are in good condition. Front door panels are very nice.  The side glass is in pretty good shape with minimal scratches.  It has all the convertible specific glass.  The front windshield is there but will probably need a new one.

The body needs considerable work.  The rear of the car was hit as some point and the tailight panel is tweaked as you can see in the pics.  At the the time of the accident it must have went off the road as the rear frame rails are bent towards the end of the car.  The car needs a whole new trunk floor and extensions so ideally the car should have the one piece trunk floor and frame rails assembly offered from Dynacorn installed as you will cure the frame rail issues and sheet metal at the same time.  It is only $1300 for this piece and will cure the two aforementioned issues.  The floorpans needs replacing as well.  The cowl has a portion replaced around the booster area that was cut out of another challenger but was not welded in yet.  The front frame assembly is very straight and solid.  The inners fenders have been worked at some point and show signs of excessive bodywork.  They should be replaced.  The fenders, doors and quarters have all been patched and are in rough condition.  The challenger hood looks ok and the trunk lid is useable as well.   The car is a major project however is a good starting point and has 99% of the hard to find convertible parts included.  The car come with a radiator core.  The heater box is also in very good condition.

There are some extra parts that will be included in the trunk consisting of vents, original weatherstripping front valence, etc.   The 340 engine will be installed in the engine bay for transport only.  It will not be running.

The car has the original fender tag, and all body numbers match the VIN.  There is no broadcast sheet.

I am listing this car for my brother as he has decided to focus on a different car he is restoring.

THE WHEELS AND TIRES ON THE CHALLENGER ARE NOT INCLUDED.  THEY GO ON MY CAR AND ARE ONLY USED FOR ROLLERS CURRENTLY.  The car will have four rollers that hold air installed on the car upon shipping.

There is NO title for this car.   Titles are not needed in Maine and this car has been in storage for 20 years.   The owner will be provided a valid maine registration and bill of sale.  This will typically be enough to register a car in your state.  Do your due dilligence prior to bidding.  Please come and inspect the car if you are concerned with its condition.  It is a major project but a worthy restoration candidate.   There is no brakes and does not run consider that when setting up a shipping company.

Hero gets his truck back better than new thanks to community support [w/video]

Sun, 29 Jun 2014

You ever hear a story and start cringing before you hear the end because you know how it's going to turn out? That could very well have been the case with the story from a few weeks ago in West Valley City, Utah, where a 14-year-old kid stole his grandfather's Hyundai Veloster and took it for a joyride - through a park full of children. But instead it turned into a heart-warming tale of heroism and a community banding together to do what's right... and then some.
Bryson Rowley was that hero who identified the danger and, rather than sit idly by and watch the joyrider potentially run over a child, got into his truck and drove it into the menacing runaway hatchback. The collision caused some $7,500 to his 2008 Dodge Ram 2500, but instead of getting stuck with the bill - one which his insurance may very well have refused to pay since the crash was, technically speaking, intentional - his community pitched in a helping hand.
Bryan Ellison, who owns West Valley Carstar with his brother, saw the news on television and wanted to help. So he brought Rowley a rental car, picked up his truck and brought it back to his auto repair shop. People from around the community donated parts, and when all was said and done, some $15,000 of work and upgrades were performed on the Ram that was returned to an overwhelmed Bryson Rowley better than new. Watch the video below for the full story.

eGarage interviews a couple with 65 Vipers

Thu, 12 Sep 2013

Owning multiple vehicles can be a hassle worth enjoying if you're willing to spend the time and the money required to acquire and maintain them. But when it's hard to make ends meet while underused valuable hunks of metal, plastic and rubber sit happily taking up garage space, journeys into the depths of other people's well-developed automotive obsessions will either bring you and your cars closer together, or compel you to sell them off before you become one of those fanatics. A recent video by eGarage is one of those journeys, and it's not for the faint of heart: D'Ann and Wayne Rauh own 65 Dodge and SRT Vipers in a collection of automobiles that exceeds 100.
We're not sure if the couple has developed heat-resistant calves from stepping over Viper door sills made burning-hot by side-exhaust pipes, but we wouldn't be surprised if they did. We did learn that their obsession with the no-holds-barred sports car started in 2006 with a trip to a dealership to buy just one Viper, which goes to show how innocently car obsessions can start. But the Rauhs seem to be doing just fine - perhaps better - 64 more Vipers later.
Watch the video below for the full story and to see what eGarage claims is the world's largest Viper collection.

Total auto recalls already on record pace in 2014

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

If you've noticed that there have been more recalls than usual this year, you may be on to something. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the US market is on pace to break a record for recalls. In 2013, 22 million cars were recalled. We're only a third of the way through 2014, though, and we've already halved that figure, with 11 million units recalled. That's wild.
Considering the past few months, it shouldn't be a surprise that General Motors is leading the charge, with six million of the 11 million units recalled coming from one of the General's four brands. Between truck recalls, CUV recalls and the ignition switch recall, 2014 hasn't been a great year for GM.
Other recall leaders include Nissan (one million Sentra and Altima sedans), Honda (900,000 Odyssey minivans), Toyota (over one million units in a few recalls), Volkswagen (150,000 Passat sedans), Chrysler (644,000 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs) and most recently, Ford (434,000 units, the bulk of which were early Ford Escape CUVs). So while it's been a bad year for GM so far, its competitors aren't doing too well, either.
