1972 Datsun 240z on 2040-cars

I bought this 240z in June of 2011 from a fellow in Sausalito, California. After spending some time
on the phone with him I felt that I could fly up to San Franciso and drive the car home to Orange County without any problems. So, I flew up in early June, concluded our business and began the drive home. Immediately I was aware of the leaking exhaust fumes invading the cockpit. I tried closing the windows, running with windows only partially open, running the fan on high and opening the vents. Nothing would prevent the exhaust from invading my space. As I passed thru San Jose I noted that the temperature was 102 degrees!!! I was miserably hot, the car was belching exhaust at me, but the Water Temp and Oil Pressure gauges were reading just off the center line of the gauges. The engine was very happy in the Hell-like heat. The prior owner had lowered the car with a shock/spring kit that would be fantastic on a billiard table smooth surface. Additionally the car was shod with Bridgestone 205/50 RE-11 tires. To say that the combination did not work well on California's deteriorating freeways is an understatement. The ride home was bone jarring. Lack of Oxygen finally ended my first day with the 240z in Paso Robles. We had covered about 250 miles in around 4 hours. Refreshed, I continued south to Orange County the next morning. The ambient temperature had dropped to the high '60's along the coast, the engine and transmission continued to perform perfectly and I was very happy to be out of the stifling heat of Northern and Central California. The car did continue to try to kill me with exhaust fumes as I made plans in my head to change out the impossibly stiff suspension. In the last almost 2 1/2 years I have replaced the exhaust manifold with one that is not broken, changed the springs and shocks to a more Street friendly combination and added 185/65 R15 tires. The car sits about 1 1/2" lower than stock and rides on Eibach spring and Tokiko shocks. Addditionally I have: rebulit the leaking carbs, replaced the faulty or missing gaskets and seals that caused the exhaust problem, changed out the Brake and Clutch Masater Cylinders, changed the rear transmission seal, added cocoa mats and had the seats redone in leather with new foam bolsters. The State of California has supplied me with a list of owners going back to Jan. of 1982. I am tlhe sixth owner on the list and I have extensive records of work performed and parts purchased bly the last five owners. The car has been in California since new. There is one paint bubble near the left rear wheel well that I had not seen prior to taking photo's for this add. The bubble is about the size of a small finger nail. All gauges and instruments, except the clock work. It has a non electric antenna. It has a numbers matching engine that was rebuilt in 1997 that starts every time and does not leak. Current mileage is 39,800 however actual mileage is 239,800. It drives better than you would expect for a 42 year old car. The paint is bright and shiny driver quality. This is a really nice little car that you could use as a daily driver or weekend toy as I have done. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. It's ready to go. Datsun previews new budget sedan for Russia [w/video]
Thu, 13 Mar 2014Nobody does cars on the cheap quite like the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The former part of the equation already has its Dacia brand of cost-effective, no-frills vehicles that have become a favorite of Top Gear co-host James May, and last summer, the latter revived its Datsun nameplate for a budget brand of its own.
The reborn Datsun launched in India this past July with its Go hatchback, returned in September with the Go+ minivan and revealed the Redi-Go concept just last month. And now it's given us our first look at an upcoming budget sedan developed specifically for the Russian market.
The as-yet unnamed vehicle (which we'll bet will incorporate the word "go" into its nameplate somehow) is set to debut on April 4, where it will launch the Datsun brand in Russia. Few details are available at this point, but the low-cost sedan was designed in Japan to offer Russian drivers "an engaging driving experience, peace of mind ownership and accessibility at the right and transparent price, with a competitive Total Cost of Ownership."

Subaru Legacy pitted against Roadkill project cars
Fri, 05 Sep 2014There's an evergreen debate among auto enthusiasts about whether they would prefer to have the latest and greatest car of today or a certified classic from yesteryear. What if you had to further define that, though, and the choice was between a brand new 2015 Subaru Legacy or a turbocharged Datsun 240Z with a hatch that wouldn't close? Roadkill aimed to find out that and more in one of its best videos to date.
According to the hosts, Subaru came to them, handed over some money and challenged Roadkill's project cars against its latest Legacy. The result is every bit as good (or better) than any automotive-themed show you could find on television.
Things start simple with a figure-eight race in a rodeo arena with the Subaru taking on Roadkill's 1968 Ford Ranchero, originally built for ice racing. From there the Legacy races a 1968 Dodge Charger with no windows around and off-road rally stage. Finally, the Subie goes head-to-head against the Rotsun, the aforementioned turbocharged 240Z, through an abandoned neighborhood. Plus, there's a bonus drag race challenging them all.
