Seller Comments

I'm trying to sell my X-Fire because I'm now married and about to start a family with my wife.  This sports car really gives me too much attention.  Additionally, I've been contemplating installing solar panels on my home to supplement our utility bills for a while now.  However, I never really seem to fully commit.  I figure if I can find a buyer and secure the capital needed I'll commit this time.  But of course, I'm very attached to this car...  and if I don't find a buyer I'll happily keep the X-Fire.  This car is a HUGE attention grabber!  I love this car so much!  The exhaust and sound system really makes it super fun to drive!  It's been my first car for years now and I've always taken excellent care of it.  I feel that I've gotten great use out the XFire and it might just be time to let it go.

I was active duty military and deployed four times to the Middle East.  It's no understatement when I say, "I spent all my deployment money on this car."  I'll give a quick rundown on everything I've done...

Originally I paid just over $9k for this car with a trade-in.  I spent $2k for a Vertical Lambo Door kit and it cost about $1.5k to have an auto shop install the kit on the doors.  I spent over $1k on wheels and tires, $3k on an audio system, and over $2k on custom leather seats.  Plus, I spent over $1k on a custom quad exhaust system.  Not to mention... hundreds of dollars on other miscellaneous upgrades for example: HID headlight kit, window tint, LED taillights, etc.

F.Y.I.  If you thought the XFire looks exotic you're not wrong.  The XFire car is of German descent.  Karmann of Germany built the XFire for Chrysler.  It's based on the R170 platform and shares 80% of its components with Mercedes-Benz SLK320.  You will notice I replaced the Chrysler emblems with Mercedes-Benz emblems.  I often get people (those that don't know cars very well), ask me, "What kind of Mercedes is that!?"  For fun I sometimes say, "It's a Mercedes X."  lol

Chrysler and Fiat offering $1,000 rebates to VW owners as Marchionne gets tough

Mon, 10 Dec 2012

The throw-down between Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne and Volkswagen has heated up in earnest. According to Bloomberg, Fiat and Chrysler are now offering current Volkswagen owners in the US $1,000 rebates to trade in their ride. It's the latest in a series of shots Marchionne has taken at his German rival. As you may recall, the Fiat executive entered into a spat with Volkwagen board chairman Ferdinand Piëch and CEO Martin Winterkorn in October after the duo called for Marchionne's resignation from presidency of the European Automotive Manufacturers Association (AECA). At the time, the Volkswagen executives were quoted as saying Fiat would not survive the European economic downturn.
In response, Marchionne called the German executives "reprehensible," and accused Volkswagen of using a pricing strategy that has created created a "bloodbath" in the EU. Volkswagen has taken to steep discounting to carve out ever-larger slices of market share in Europe, but the company has a much smaller foothold in the US. Marchionne may be trying to hit Volkswagen where the manufacturer is weakest with the new Fiat new incentive program.
Late last week, the Fiat executive was voted to a second term as ACEA president.

Are you the 2015 Chrysler 300?

Tue, 16 Sep 2014

When Chrysler showed us its hand and revealed its five-year product plan to the world, we learned that the updated 300 sedan will bow at the LA Auto Show in November. Now, thanks to Allpar, we might have our first (super grainy) look at the new sedan a full two months ahead of its official debut.
Unlike its Dodge Charger platform mate, the new 300 isn't really all that different from the model currently on sale. That said, we're not sure if the changes shown here really reflect styling that we'd call "better," with the company's logo sort of floating at the top of the grille, and a more simplistic front end that lets the schnoz stick out a bit. Again, nothing drastic to talk about, but the new tweaks are kind of weak. Of course, we'll wait until we see the finished product in the metal before we make up our minds.
Don't expect things to change too much in terms of interior refinement or powertrain offerings, as well, with all the same leather and technology we've enjoyed in the 300 before, and the usual 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and 5.7-liter Hemi V8 powertrain options. We'll know for sure when the car shows its freshened face in Los Angeles in November.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Wed, 19 Dec 2012

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
