1991 Chevrolet S10. 78k miles 4.3 V6 Auto.

I recently purchased this truck at a estate sale. The original owner was a WW II veteran who was going to the nursing home. He bought it brand new at Read Chevrolet in Hoopeston Il. It still has the cheap plastic mudguards and floormats the dealer installed when new. The truck has always been garaged kept but it has always been used as a truck. It has scratches, its taken a few door dings or shopping carts to the door. The body is in great shape and has no major dents. bumpers are all straight. He did a great job of keeping from running into anything. There is NO rust issues with this truck. It has one spot in the right front fender where the paint is bubbling. Its common for these trucks with the fender flares. The paint on the hood is showing sings of flaking. I'm sure he never waxed this truck so that was the first thing I did to it. It really cleaned up nice but it is in no way perfect.

The previous owner put two new tires on the front. tires on rear are ok.When I bought it, it was making more fan noise under the hood than normal. I had it checked out and the water pump had a wobble in it so we replaced the water pump. The serpentine looks brand new so we didn't replace it. The old one is behind the seat for emergency. The ONLY thing on this truck that DOESN'T work is the temp gauge. When the water pump work was done we replaced the sending unit for the temp gauge and no success. Supposedly the temp gauge in the cluster going bad is common with these. The most cost effective solution is to buy a aftermarket temp gauge but I will leave that to the new owner. In reality I didn't need this truck, I went to the auction and its such a cute truck so I had to have it. Then when I dropped $350 on a water pump and oil change, sending unit I'm  thinking I just want to get my money back out of it. I had it sold locally for $2700 but my reserve is lower than that.

The truck drives absolutely perfect. I use it occasionally to commute on my 27 mile trip to work. Its a real step back in time when you sit in it. A/C blows cold. Cruise control works. Some people have a problem with the transmissions in these trucks. They were put in everything and I've had more than one rebuilt and none of them shift as nice as this one does. If taken care of you can expect another 100k miles on the trans and even more on the motor. The steering is very tight .No rattles .No disappointments when driving this truck. Has power steering and brakes. All the glass is good.

The headliner does sag and at 6ft 1 it is a nuisance for me. Tailgate works properly. The radio/cassette works but only has one working speaker. Truck has a rubber bed mat.  Clean title in hand. I will be listing on craigslist and reserve the right to end the auction due to CASH MONEY.

The seat does have a small tear in it. Interior is in great shape

Subprime financing on the rise in new car sales, leasing too

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

We all remember the financial crisis that began several years back. At its core was a splurge of subprime lending for housing loans. The housing bubble burst, triggering a collapse of the mortgage-backed securities market. Apparently, those types of loans still exist in the automotive industry, and the market share for these types of "nonprime, subprime, and deep subprime," loans has grown 13.6 percent compared to the third quarter a year ago.
According to an Automotive News report, high-risk lending expanded to 24.8 percent of total loans in Q3, up from 21.9 percent for this time last year. As this level increased, average credit scores of borrowers dropped to 755, down from 763 a year ago. In that time, the average financing amount increased $90 per vehicle, to $25,963.
At 818, Volvo maintains the highest per-owner credit score, while Mitsubishi has the lowest, at 694. The highest rate of borrowers was at Toyota, with 14 percent of the market, followed by Ford with 13.1 percent and Chevrolet at 11.1.

GM recalls full-size truck, SUVs and vans over faulty shifter mechanism

Mon, 07 Jan 2013

Twelve different General Motors vehicles from the 2013 model year, up to 54,686 units in total, are being recalled over two potential issues with their steering columns. The models in question, all full-size trucks, SUVs or vans, are the: Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Express, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Savana, Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL.
The affected vehicles were built with a fractured parking lock cable or "a malformed steering column lock actuator gear in the lock module assembly." As a consequence, they could shift out of park without the brake pedal being applied or with the key removed or in the off position.
A bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that the recall should begin on January 17. GM will notify owners, at which time they can take their vehicles to their dealers for repair free of charge. Have a look at the bulletin below for more information.

Use this PowerPoint when convincing your spouse to let you buy a Corvette

Thu, 14 Feb 2013

When you are not the one in charge of the purse strings, creativity is a must when trying to get the string-holder to bankroll that next shiny object you just can't live without.
When I was a kid, I decided that life wasn't worth living if it weren't in pursuit of owning a GMC Typhoon. My 12-year-old self crafted a fiscal strategy that, when combined with my offer of a 49-percent share of ownership in the car in return for my parents' contribution of 80-percent of the purchase price, would see me behind the wheel of a Typhoon by the time I hit college. They walked away from the negotiating table and, the economic climate of the 8th grade being what it was at the time, another partner wasn't found before the Typhoon was discontinued.
Roy El-Rayes, however, has succeeded where 12-year-old me failed, and he did it by using the sort of professionalism that only a PowerPoint presentation can provide, along with some humor and bold-faced flattery.
