You're looking at a "one-off" custom shortened S10. The story:  We owned a family garage/custom performance shop for almost 25 years here in Sarasota but needed to close due to family illness.  I needed to liquidate most of our supplies and vehicles.  I crushed most of them, but I saved a couple for an interesting project or two.  This truck is one of them.  (If you want more info on the shop etc... just email me with questions and I'll write you an essay if you like about each vehicle's history.)
I took a 1986 2wd S10, shortened the bed about 40 inches and welded it to the back of the cab.  I took a 1988 Suzuki Samurai frame, transfer case and axles for the base.  I used the 4.3 TBI and 4R700 from a 1991 Jimmy with about 68K miles at the time that was rolled.  With a little help from a 1998 tracker steering box, a few tools and a good welder I shoehorned it together and drove it ever since.  It's been on the road since 2005, so I know a little bit about how it runs.  In fact it's outside now.
A little about the truck:  a year and some ago I cleaned up the body and had a nice old school two tone cab job done on it with 2 part industrial paint for toughness. (Same stuff the Cats are painted with.)  It's a beautiful true white and blue with black double pin striping.  The frames dusted with an Emron black.
Here's some other stuff:
-I rebuilt the tranny in 2005 upon assembly of the truck.  Has all updates, new converter etc...  (just serviced again about 8 months ago.)
-New Bosch fuel pump/strainer/rheostat/filter
-Full tune up about 2,500 miles ago
-LOF 275 miles ago
-New front window (thanks rock...)
-4" BDS suspension lift kit
-All drive-train services done within 5,000  miles.
-New radiator/thermostat upon build of truck.
-Nice mud radials ride pretty nice have about 6,000 miles on them and are wearing perfectly.
-New brakes at time of tires/bearing service (about 6000 miles)
-Air suspension up front (pump on board with gauge in dash)
-Custom drive shafts from Tom's (It has three - divorced transfer) - beefy
-Rear lock right locker with side gears (That way it "goes" in whatever condition and lasts)
-Yes, 4 wheel drive works quite well
-Bolt on center chunk torsion control from Calmini.  VERY nice and effective. (see pic)
-Yes, it rides kind of like a truck.  it's definitely not a Cadillac... (see pictures if confused)
-Nice Stereo/MP3/USB/Aux in stereo with amp and two Pioneer dual voice coil pro subs in custom box (sounds niiiiiice)
-custom carpet, jutted where necessary with padding for even coverage and a quiet cab
-power steering/power brakes/tilt/cruise/cold ac/hot heat/manual windows
-TBI 4.3 in perfect running condition.  Truck gets between 18 and 23 mpg consistently.  No, the check engine light is NOT on and yes it does work.
-Larger transmission cooler (just in case)
-Magnaflo X-pipe with true 2.5" duals manifolds back with stainless rolled oval tips (sounds great!  Throaty but not too loud at all.  Quiet in cab.)
-Lifetime warranted tint at local shop (Viper.  Was expensive, and is nice.)
-3 thick coats duplicolor bed liner
-New headliner (full with all trim)
-Custom fit bucket seats from Jimmy (in excellent shape with covers)

Here's some bads or didn't complete:
-It's an older truck and daily driven.  It has some sweating of some fluids, but no leaks that drip and nothing ever goes below typical use.
-Very small driveshaft vibration at 65mph as it's about 12" long.
-It's geared pretty low because of the Samurai transfer case that's geared down internally.  Axles are 3:73 and transfer case is an 18% reduction from input, so the speedometer is about 10% off.  You can buy an adapter and fix it, but it never bothered me and it works perfectly.  Even though you can pull a house down with the gearing that's in it, I wouldn't go trying to haul anything heavier than a 19' boat or a couple jet skis.  I hauled a dual tandem trailer with my Samurai and two four wheelers on it 6 times and it does fine, but I really don't suggest it unless you really know what you're doing.  The brakes work great to stop itself, however, stopping a large trailer isn't the kindest to them.
-Reese hitch 2" receiver with bolt on the side to eliminate that "clunk" that all Reese hitch's have and to stabilize short trailers.
-Eagle Alloys, Grant steering wheel, heavy duty mats, and some other neat doodads.

Overview:   Thanks for reading this far.  You must be interested.  Good.  I've driven this truck on and off daily/weekly since 2005 and have thoroughly enjoyed it for what it is.  The air is cold and the cruise works.  I drive it on the highway and set the cruise at about 65 to 70 with no problem.  It will go faster, but who needs to.  Yes, if you come up a big hill and hit the gas you can pick the front tires off the ground, but I really wouldn't suggest it.  The 4.3 is really torquey with that low gearing.  It's used as a truck.  Pulls small trailers, stuff goes in the bed, my girl and I take it to the beach, (NOT MUDDING: HAS NEVER BEEN MUDDED).  I suppose somebody could try, but I didn't build it to enter the Tough Truck Contest, but more to be a daily driver that is more than capable to head off into the woods if you like, without fail.  Paint job is really nice, engine doesn't miss a beat, transmission shifts great, the hubs engage easily, it tracks straight down the road and doesn't jump into anyone else's lane, rides better with a little weight in the back, I keep the front air at around 80#, stereo's great and the seats are comfortable.
I'll even throw in some Bully steps if you want them.  I did not install as I like the sleek look.  I also have frame covers if you want those.  They go in the wheel well and covers the open spaces for looks and debris.

Has water jet cut 1/8" Stainless Autobot Transformers insignias as emblems I drew. (Request Pictures)

It's a good truck for someone that wants something different.  I drive it daily, and know it drives well.  It's not a show car that gets polished and sits under a cover.  I drive it, and so can you.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask me.  Provide me your personal email and I will send you more photos of anything you would like to have.  Be specific.  I want this truck to go to a good home.  Please bid responsibly.  Know what you're bidding on and be able to back up your bid.

Remember, if you buy it, it runs good.  Fly down and drive it home.

Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!!

Chevrolet planning low-cost Corvette under Stingray?

Wed, 27 Feb 2013

If you're burnt out on musings about the Chevrolet Corvette, you'll want to go ahead and skip this post. Motor Trend reports General Motors is hard at work on a low-cost version of the seventh-generation sports car for 2015. Rumored to be called the Corvette Coupe, the car will forgo the Stingray and skip the 450-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine in favor of a 5.3-liter V8 with under 400 ponies. If you're keeping track, that's a shade of the same engine found behind the headlights of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
The report also suggests the Coupe will receive a number of aesthetic tweaks to separate it from the Stingray, including different front and rear fascias as well as new front fenders and a rear diffuser. Motor Trend says the point of all this is to cut the car's price tag, which means we may see a Corvette on showroom floors for less than $50,000 if this car comes to fruition.

Chevrolet Malibu gets across-the-board price cuts, hopes to dig out of slump

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

To say that things aren't going well for the newly redesigned 2013 Chevrolet Malibu is a pretty sizable understatement. Reports have been swirling about the Malibu getting an emergency design refresh, less than a year after its introduction, as well as having its production at the Fairfax Assembly Plant halted twice already this year for excessive inventory. Now, Motor Trend is reporting that the midsize sedan will be receiving price drops across the board ranging from $300 on a number of models up to $770 on the 1LT trim; offsetting some of MSRP drop, though, the destination charge has increased from $760 to $810.
Without destination, the entry-level Malibu LS now starts at $21,995, which is still about $300 more than a Honda Accord and about $300 less than the segment's top-selling Toyota Camry. This new pricing also drops the price of the Eco, 2LT and 3LT trims by $300. The LTZ trim has dropped by $415, meaning that the Malibu's top dog now starts at just under $30,000, excluding destination.
Here are the new starting prices for all eight of the Malibu trim levels compared to the previous prices for the 2013 model year (including destination):

The story of the 2014 Chevrolet SS: "Luxury, power, refinement, handling"

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

Not including the women and men who built it, the 2014 Chevrolet SS has only been seen in person by a piddling number of people - fewer humans than would fill the gymnasium at a high school volleyball game. Not including the men and women who built it, no one has driven it. Even so, it is already saddled with two controversies: the way it looks and the way it shifts.
First to that shifting. Did we love the last Americanized Holden, the awesomely sportsome Pontiac G8 GXP, and its six-speed manual? Of course. Do we wish the SS came with a six-speed manual? Of course. But we'd like a toboggan to come with a manual transmission. We'd put a manual transmission on a weasel if we could because we're just wired that way; if it moves, it should come with a stick and a clutch. Or at least the option.
Let's climb down off the ledge, though. We haven't driven the SS and we have no idea how good (or not) the automatic is. And the Hobson's Choice in transmissions when it comes to sport sedans like the BMW M5, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and Jaguar XFR-S and, oh yeah, cars-that-really-should-have-manuals like the Audi R8 and Nissan GT-R and Porsche 918 and every single Lamborghini and Ferrari, for instance, hasn't stopped us from enjoying what is clearly the gruesome, dual-clutched demise of Western automotive civilization. Because in spite of our ululations at the dying of the six-speed light, we understand.
