When we build these trucks in our shop we have four goals in mind:

#1. Make them look bad-ass and turn heads.

#2. Make them reliable for years to come.

#2. Make a truck you can drive on the street everyday and be comfortable in with no worries.

#4. Make it affordable to you with a great resale value.

We saw an old '56 patina Chevy truck here on eBay a month ago that was at $24K with 2 days left to go and like 45 bids on it. It was not air-bagged and the front cross-member sat about 2” off the ground. Sorry to whomever built it, but that’s not even drivable on normal city streets!  It’s like your wife or girlfriend buying a pair of “pretty” shoes, but never wearing them because they hurt her feet! They sit in the closet and look “pretty”…….. Huh??

We keep all these things in mind when building our trucks!  You can climb in this truck and drive it across the country.  It is essentially a complete frame-up restoration with the old school patina looking body left alone. We normally throw LS engines in these, but this one we wanted to just keep old school and simple.

This truck is a 1959 Chevy 3100 short-bed step side that had the optional under-rear spare tire so there is no cutout on the driver’s rear fender.  It has a rebuilt 350 Chevy small block in it that runs great. The engine was bored .30 over with a mild cam in it on rebuild.  It has a Weiand Stealth intake with a 600cfm, electric choke Edelbrock carb, new plugs, new oil, new ceramic headers, new fuel pump, new water pump, new alternator, fresh rebuilt oem GM starter, new 50,000 volt HEI distributor, new 8mm wires, etc.  It also comes with a fresh, brand new rebuilt 700R4 (1987) 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission that has the larger 30-spline shaft and factory updated auxiliary valve body.  In the rebuild it got a brand new S10 torque converter (2100-2200 stall), Transgo mechanical lockup for overdrive, an updated Vette solenoid and Kevlar disks.

So………..for all the stuff that has been done to this truck. This is the fun part!!

Drivetrain, Frame & Suspension

-  It has a 77 Camaro front clip which gives it full independent suspension, power steering and disk brakes.  (This clip was done the correct way by graphing it “into” the existing frame and not just welding it up underneath to the stock frame like a lot of guys do because it’s easier). The engine was also moved down and back 2” in the clip to make it handle like it’s on a rail. This makes a huge difference in handling…..

-  Also to help the handling, we installed a 1-1/4” sway bay bar up front from a mid-70’s Trans Am. This holds it nice and firm to the road.

-  The rear frame received a C-notch and boxing over the rear axle to properly lower the truck, keeping the ride comfort and geometry, but giving it that slammed look.

-  We removed the stock gas tank, getting it out of the cab behind the seat and went with a brand new 20 gallon tank in the far back between the frame rails.  It was also done the correct way!

-  We installed a Ford 8.8 rear end with 3:73 limited-slip gears. This allows us to get disk brakes in the rear, flip it over the leaf springs to lower it and they are just great units that are readily available and affordable! We use these in just about all of our builds because with a simple 1” spacer it allows us to get the tires to the outer edge of the fender and also convert it to a Chevy 5x4.75 wheel pattern.

-  Wheels are beautiful Boyd Codington 17” billet wheels with 245-50-17 tires.

-  Brand new under-floor 7”, dual diagram, 1-1/8” bore vacuum brake boost.

-  Brand new 3/8” steel fuel line from tank to engine.

-  Brand new 3/16” brake lines front to back with residual valves.

-  Brand new brakes pads all the way around with new rotors, calipers, hoses and wheel bearings on the front.

-  Brand new 3-core aluminum radiator with 16” electric fan that kicks on automatically at 185 and off at 170.

-  Brand new radiator and heater hoses.

-  Brand new shocks all the way around.

-  Brand new 12 circuit wiring harness installed front to back.

-  Brand new u-joints on driveshaft.

-  Brand new engine and tranny mounts.

-  Brand new $1000 dual exhaust system with ceramic headers and Flowmaster 50 series mufflers.  It sounds sweet with the mild cam!

Exterior

-  Rear roll pan with flip down license plate and hidden receiver hitch for towing.  (We did all of this while we were fabricating the new gas tank back there. This is bad ass!  It also has LED bolt lights for the license plate bolts.  You will need to wire these to your license plate.

 - The firewall and both inner fenders have been smoothed to look clean.

-  New 1/8” steel painted bed floor with finished wood over it for an old school appearance.  (We did this again for the guy who wants to be able to use it as a real truck. It allows it to be a fully functional truck if wanted.)

- Brand new glass rubber front and back.

- The door glass has been converted to one-piece windows completely removing the stock wing-vent windows.  This gives it a unique look, like it is going fast just sitting there, because of the way the windows “lean” forward. This is a pretty intense conversion and is a lot of work to do right!

-  Brand new windshield.

-  All of the side and back glass is factory tinted which should be legal in all states.

-  Brand new window channels and sweepers.

-  Brand new hood hinges and springs.

Interior

We wanted you to be comfortable and feel like you were in a $50,000 hot rod when you sat behind the wheel, so that’s what we set out to accomplish.

-  The entire lower half of the inside of the cab got Lizardskin sound-deadener sprayed on it to make your ride quieter.

-  The dash got completely smoothed.

-  It got a set of new Dakota Digital gauges.

-  It got brand new fresh red paint.

-  Brand new chrome column with ignition and shifter.

-  Brand new steering wheel and adapter with ‘59 etched in the horn button.

-  Brand new carpet.

-  Brand new door handles and knobs.

-  Brand new window regulators.

-  Brand new headliner with rubber retainer.

-  Brand new sunvisor.

-  Heater unit was cleaned, rebuilt and tested (floorboard and defrost both work great).

-  Wiper motor converted from vacuum to electric.

-  Seats out of a 2005 Chevy Avalanche.

-  New upholstered lower door panels.

-  Driver seat belt.

-  Pioneer under-dash head unit w/Rockford Fosgate PBR300x2 amp and 6x9’s in boxes.

-  Dash and exterior pin stripping by Kurt Silva.

Now for the other stuff

The body is pretty straight on it. The only real very small dents are in the bed on the front panel and the very front right quarter panel. You will have a hard time even finding them!  We are not going to tell you this truck is completely rust free because it is not.  We did replace a small section of the floorboard/toe-board on the passenger’s side because it had slight rust in it and was getting thin in a small area. No big deal! The rest of the floor is good.  It does however have some rust in the usual places like the very lower doors, lower rear fenders, lower cab corners, etc.  This truck came out of California, but has sat over in Grants Pass, Oregon for the last 28+ years. When we went and picked it up, it had not been registered or moved since 1986. We love giving these old trucks a second life and our 100% feedback shows we try to be upfront and very honest about everything throughout the entire sale process. This is how we get referrals from you and keep our doors swinging.  This is just a good solid truck that has a bit of an attitude. It runs great, looks great, rides great, sounds great and should make someone a very reliable ride for years to come that will get tons of compliments, but also hold its value. These old trucks won’t go down in value over the years. Drive it for 10 years and sell it for what you paid for it or more. It’s a win, win!

Once purchased a $500 deposit is required via PayPal within 24 hours.  The shipping is your responsibility, but we will be more than happy to help out however we can. Last one went to Phoenix and was around $700 delivered from Oregon here. Had another one go to Indiana for $875.  We can also pick you up and you drive it home. The nearest airport is Redmond, Oregon (RDM) and is about 15 minutes from the shop.  A signed, clear title and Bill of Sale will be sent Certified Mail after final payment is received. Cash or wire transfer for final payment due within 7 days.  The faster you take care of business, the faster you get your new truck!   Let us know if you have any questions. Thanks!

These cars are headed to the Great Crusher In The Sky

Fri, 24 Aug 2012

It happens every year. We bid adieu to some cars and trucks that will be missed, and say good riddance to others wondering how they stayed around so long. Whether they're being killed off for slow sales or due to a new product coming along to replace them, the list of vehicles being discontinued after 2012 is surprisingly long and diverse.
CNN Money has compiled a list of departing vehicles, to which we've added a few more of our own. In the slow sales column, cars like the Lexus HS 250h, Mercedes-Benz R-Class and the full Maybach lineup appear, while the Ford Escape Hybrid, Mazda CX-7 and Hyundai Veracruz are all having their gaps filled with more modern and more fuel-efficient alternatives. Obvious exceptions to the rule include models that still sell in decent numbers like the Jeep Liberty and the Chrysler Town & Country (which will eventually be replaced by a crossover-like vehicle).
Check out our gallery of discontinued cars above, then scroll down for more information.

Watch this creative way to pull a truck's engine

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

Living in an apartment complex has its benefits, but for shade-tree mechanics who like/need to work on their own cars, it definitely has a number of disadvantages. Relatively simple tasks such as brake jobs and oil changes are difficult when you don't have dedicated driveway space, to say nothing of more in-depth repairs... like pulling an engine, for example.
For these types of challenges, a little ingenuity and plenty of muscle are needed to get the job done. Scroll down to watch these four men snatch the V8 out of a Chevrolet K1500 using nothing but a chain, landscape timber and good ol' fashioned brute strength. Good work, gentlemen.

GM throttles back Chevy Malibu, Buick LaCrosse production over swollen inventories

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

As inventory of the Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse continues to pile up, General Motors will be idling its Fairfax Assembly Plant for two weeks, according to Automotive News. This move comes about a month after the plant was shut down for three weeks in late December and early January for the same reason. As of January 31, the GM had a 94-day supply of Malibu stock while the LaCrosse was a little worse with a 117-day supply.
Just last week, GM announced that it would be investing $600 million in upgrading this plant, but it's unclear what future plans the company has in store for Fairfax considering slow sales of both the plant's models. We do expect a refreshed and more luxurious LaCrosse shortly and an early design update for the Malibu to be announced at some point this year, although we have had no official word as to when either will happen.
