For all of you who have been afflicted by the growing trend of pick up fever; here is a fairly nice 1956 Chevy Pick Up truck.  Most of the hard and expensive work has already been done: It has a V-8(Believed to be a 350) along with what is also believed to be a 350 transmission.  The engine starts right away and it sounds very nice; it drives fairly well.  It does smoke when you first start it but not after it warms up; more than likely due to the fact that it has sat for over a year, not driven.  It has front disc brakes that work fairly well but I would recommend going thru before you decide to take it on a coast to coast drive.  It does have a 10 bolt rear end.  Most of the electrical system works OK; it does not have windshield wipers.  Overall, the body is in fairly nice shape but it does have a bit of an amateur quality paint job.  There is some bondo on the roof of the car from what appears to be a medium size dent that was not properly worked by the body shop.  The cab corners are fairly decent but not totally rust free(small areas needing repair).  There is also a couple other small areas on the body that were obviously a victim of poor workmanship.  It has a very solid, rust free frame.  The bottom of the passenger's door was apparently cut up for something(see photo) by the previous owner.  I have a clear title in hand and true mileage is unknown.   However, all in all it is a fairly decent truck that has had a lot of work done to it; the pictures tell it all.  I have a very fair reserve, so happy bidding!

I will sell worldwide and I will store the truck for a reasonable period of time until the buyer can make shipping arrangements.  The truck is SOLD AS IS with no warranties offered or implied.  I highly encourage personal inspection or you are more than welcome to send an agent on your behalf; no hidden agendas here.  The truck is also listed for sale locally; meaning that I reserve the right to end the listing at any time.

Please feel free to ask questions and I will make an attempt to reply as quickly as possible.

GM execs fired over fraudulent India emissions testing

Mon, 29 Jul 2013

General Motors hadn't had a recall in India since 1995. That changed when it was discovered that certain employees were playing tricks with local emissions testing in order to ensure passing grades for engines. More than ten GM Powertrain employees in India and the US have been let go over the ensuing emissions flap, including Sam Winegarden, VP of global engine engineering, a man who has been with the company since 1969, leading development of some marquee powerplants.
According to Automotive News, an internal investigation revealed that employees "violated testing procedures," sometimes swapping specially prepared low-emissions engines during testing regimes for the Chevrolet Tavera SUV equipped with the 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter engines. Employees were also manipulating weights in order to get vehicles placed into different emissions categories. The discovery has led to GM recall the 114,000 Taveras produced over an eight-year period and halting their production and sale.
The Economic Times of India reports that the issue is due to "a faulty component." GM has developed a solution to the issue, and once it is validated in testing and approved by the Indian authorities, the recalled vehicles will be fixed at dealers and production will resume.

Corvette Stingray Shooting Brake under consideration by Callaway [w/poll]

Mon, 18 Mar 2013

Callaway has released a few renderings of a design study for a shooting brake version of the C7 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The company says it wants to create a long-roof version of America's sports car to offer buyers more interior room and a vehicle with "unique style." The company says it will use structural carbon fiber for the new body bits, which suggests the conversion shouldn't add too much more weight to the Corvette. Along with a few mechanical tweaks, the Callaway Corvette Stingray AeroWagon could breeze past the 200 miles per hour barrier.
Provided that they get enough interest, Callaway estimates they will be able to effect the changes on the Chevrolet for around $15,000, and says the conversion work should be available through its network of dealers. You can check out the brief press release below for more information, or head over to the Callaway site to plunk down a deposit - but before you do, we want to know... do you find this C7 wagon interesting? Vote in our poll below, then feel free to leave a few lines in Comments.

GM applies for LT5, LTX trademarks... are new small block variants coming?

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

Recently discovered General Motors trademark applications for LT4, LT5, LT88 and LTX have observers wondering what kind of high-performance offerings could be on their way. A new LT4 would mark a return of the engine designation first used on the Corvette Grand Sport, SLP Pontiac Firehawk and SLP Chevrolet Camaro SS from 1996 and 1997. Supposition at Corvette Forum - which provided advance intel on the C7 like these leaked images - believes a new LT4 could go into the high-performance trim of the next-gen, 2015 Camaro that would be more powerful than the 580-horsepower Camaro ZL1.
Seeing an LT5 again would also be déjà vu - in its former life it was a 5.7-liter V8 for the C4 Corvette ZR-1 from 1990-1994 designed by Lotus, producing from 370 hp to 405 hp. A mix of rumor and hope is that the new LT5 will be a supercharged evolution of the 6.2-liter LT1 (pictured) placed in the new C7 Corvette, and that it will go into the C7 version of the ZR1 pumping out something like 700 hp.
The LTX trademark is, as with that last letter, a complete mystery. If the "X" isn't a generic way to denote the whole LT family, it's wondered if it LTX could refer to a crate motor offering like the LSX.
