Texas Classic Cars of Dallas is proud to present this beautifully restored 1950 Chevrolet 3100 series light duty pickup truck. Chevrolet's Advanced Design trucks made many strides post-war in a prosperous, up-lifting time. This was the era where a pickup truck driver was a small business owner and working man.

 photo DSC06550_zpsa99d450b.jpg

You may need the owner's manual. We have the original one. This truck has spent the last two years in a private owner's garage. He purchased the truck from a gentleman in Missouri in its present condition. Prior to that gentleman's ownership, the truck was in an Arizona collection. Today, it is proudly displayed in Texas Classic Cars of Dallas' showroom.

 photo DSC06432_zps2934a74e.jpg

This truck was built right. it has been disassembled and restored well. The paint is in very good condition as is the sheetmetal throughout.

 photo DSC06390_zps55c98ce4.jpg

The chrome is in excellent condition. The grille and bumpers are beautiful front to back.

You'll open the hood to find a jewel of an engine compartment. This engine bay was restored with attention to detail. The engine features a chromed valve cover and timing cover. The inner fenderwells, core support, and firewall sheetmetal has been finished to match the truck, in blue. All of the bolt heads and fasteners are bright and detailed. The body welting was replaced throughout. Many hours were spent on this one and it shows.

 photo DSC06406_zpsb5dececd.jpg

The 216.5 cubic inch Thriftmaster 6 received some upgrades for 1950, amounting to another 2 horsepower for 92 total. This is a very smooth running engine & gearbox. The engine was rebuilt by previous owner & transmission has been gone through, clutch replaced, etc. Be sure to play our video to see it start with the original foot starter pedal and cruise down the road.

The oil bath air cleaner has a little extra detail done to it, as does the rest of this truck. The valve cover is chrome as is the timing cover. Again, the firewall and inner fenders are beautifully detailed to match the exterior.

The dash displays the restored factory gauge cluster with functional gauges. The factory steering wheel is also retained. There is no power steering, but the truck is really not hard to drive. The 3-speed manual floor shift goes through the gears with ease. The brakes stop straight, upgraded to front disc's for safety sake.

 photo DSC06422_zps19b6382c.jpg

The running boards are in excellent condition as are the door jambs, cab corners, weatherstrip, etc.

 photo DSC06423_zps1eb82ca9.jpg

The vinyl seating and headliner insert is in very good condition throughout. The rubber mat and flooring is clean and detailed as well. The foot start pedal and emergency brake work as they should. One change from original is the AM/FM bowtie cassette stereo installed.

The doors are in excellent condition, both the metal and paint. The door panel inserts were replaced during the restoration with the same hard backing material the headliner is made of.

 photo DSC06401_zps7dead765.jpg

Just look at that reflection of the wood bed in the cab.

 photo DSC06395_zpscf552e70.jpg

Here is a shine to be proud of.

 photo DSC06385_zps72a4e2c5.jpg

This stance is perfect. This '50 Chevrolet 3100 truck rides on the factory steel wheels, restored and color-keyed in blue. The Chevrolet wheel covers, beauty rings, and wide whitewall radial tires are the right choice for this pickup truck.

Chevy SS prototype spotted wearing Pontiac G8 clothes

Tue, 28 Aug 2012

Do not adjust your computer screen, you are not seeing the rebirth of the Pontiac brand. General Motors has chosen to use a G8 to disguise a test mule for the latest prototype of the forthcoming Chevrolet SS. The G8 was closely related to the Holden Commodore and Vauxhall VXR, the platform upon which the new Chevrolet performance model will be based. It should come as little surprise, then, that GM has opted to use the cladding from the former G8.
Thought the front clip of this mule is pure Pontiac, note the vents immediately behind the front wheel. That is a distinctive design hallmark of the Vauxhall VXR. Also note that this vehicle is right-hand drive, as the Holden and its Chevy counterpart will be very closely related. That likely includes potential drivetrains. The spy photos of this mule also reveal very wide rear tires, and rear wheels that do not match the fronts.

Watch this creative way to pull a truck's engine

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

Living in an apartment complex has its benefits, but for shade-tree mechanics who like/need to work on their own cars, it definitely has a number of disadvantages. Relatively simple tasks such as brake jobs and oil changes are difficult when you don't have dedicated driveway space, to say nothing of more in-depth repairs... like pulling an engine, for example.
For these types of challenges, a little ingenuity and plenty of muscle are needed to get the job done. Scroll down to watch these four men snatch the V8 out of a Chevrolet K1500 using nothing but a chain, landscape timber and good ol' fashioned brute strength. Good work, gentlemen.

2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette wastes no time zooming into Jay Leno's Garage

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

Where else would you expect the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to show up first? Although this time it isn't exactly in Jay Leno's Garage, Leno instead playing an away game at Brown's Classic Auto in Scottsdale, Arizona. Nor does Leno drive the car, instead taking an 11-minute walkaround of the new American sports car with General Motors design head Ed Welburn, the same man who recently brought by a string of classic Corvettes to the talk show host's California compound.
It is, admittedly, a love-fest for the American sports car now featuring 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, but one that also features admissions about previous Corvette seats like "they were kinda rough," and the explanation that labeling the coupe "Stingray" means not having to call it "the base Corvette." On top of that, Welburn also explains the proper application of the term "dashboard." You can watch it all in the video below.
