Ongoing project. Reliable enough to drive everyday.
Trying to retire and I want to pay some bills. I've had this El Camino for almost 7 years Purchased from an amateur customizer who did side work and he used this El Camino as his "demo" to show potential clients his work. The paint and body work are at least 10 years old and the pictures will highlight the flaws, however, this is more of a 3 footer rather than a 10 footer. The paint is glass smooth and shines beautifully. If you don't want to attract attention this is not the car for you.
The ZZ2 has less than 3,000 miles on it (I don't know how many miles on the car itself). The ZZ2 is a Crate engine very similar to the ubiquitous ZZ4. It has the same aluminum heads, 9.8:1 compression, full roller cam, 4 bolt mains a bulletproof crank and a square bore intake high rise manifold patterned after the LT1 Z28 design from 1970. Replacement cost around $3700.
Hi torque Mini-Starter
Grand Prix Frame stiffeners
G Body specific 9' Ford rear with Posi Center Section and 3.5 ratio with Edelbrock adjustable upper arms and boxed lowers, Hellwig Anti Sway Bar, Air Shocks and Moog Cargo Coil springs, 11" drum brakes app cost $2400.
Doug's Shorty Ceramic coated headers $550 into a 2.5" 'X' pipe. G Force double hump crossmember $245
Monte Carlo SS 200 4R Transmission, rebuilt 2500 RPM Converter, Hardened Input shaft and TCI constant pressure valve body ( current trans is a TH350 the 200 4R is included in the sale ) $2300.
Custom built and precision balanced driveshaft that works with both the 200 and the 350 transmissions.
3 core Radiator, new A/C Condenser, Evaporator, Compressor, Hoses for ice cold air at least $500
B&M Ratchet Shifter $125
Wheels and tires $1600.
Craftec Bed Cover $250 ( still new in box )
I could keep going but you get the drift.
There are things that need to be done but nothing major. The interior is presentable but not perfect.
There are seals that need to be installed in the rear and there's a whine in the rear that could just be bearings or a backlash adjustment. Remember this is a 9" so you pull the pumpkin and put it on the bench or bring it to your local Ford dealer and let them do it. Probably the easiest rear in existence to set up.
My point is that if you have an El Camino or a G Body that you've been dreaming of building you could buy this car swap parts and re-sell it if you don't like the look or sell the one that you will never get around to building because you don't have the $10,000 for paint and another $10,000 for drivetrain upgrades and buy this car and proudly display it at your next local cruise.
I'm doing a "Buy It Now" because the last few times I listed cars the "winning" bidders all disappeared after casting the winning bid.
I will answer any question honestly ( see my feedback ) just ask and I will post valid questions and answers on the listing.
This vehicle has a current NC inspection but it does not have any original emission equipment installed so be mindful of your state regulations before considering a purchase.
My Price is firm so don't waste an email asking for a better price. I may consider a trade but need $3500 cash out of the deal. I would consider a stock El Camino, any year or a decent old Pick Up truck. Don't need a daily driver or a project.

Corvette Stingray Convertible images mysteriously appear on web, so we add our own
Tue, 22 Jan 2013It was inevitable that we'd see the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray topless at some point, but that didn't make us any less interested when a pair of supposedly leaked official images showed up on theautoinsiderblog.com last week. We posted them on our Facebook page, but held off reporting on them here until we could get a little more information.
Those images, which feature a dark red car on a sterile black studio background, supposedly first appeared on the website of diecast model maker Maisto. A Chevrolet spokesman has been reported saying that they are "not official images released by Chevrolet PR," which isn't a denial they're the real deal, but neither is it a confirmation.
Close examination of the photos suggest they could be official shots of the Corvette Stingray Convertible, and while some have doubted their authenticity due to a lack of vents (which were seen on the C7s that debuted in Detroit last week), it could be that the images are of a base model car without the Z51 package that doesn't require the extra venting and cooling.
Helicopter crashes on Top Gear Korea set while chasing Corvette ZR1
Mon, 11 Feb 2013The formula of Top Gear Korea is seemingly about the same as it is everywhere else in the world, including the flagship British original: involve interesting cars in fantastical situations with charismatic hosts. That prescription has proved to be pretty reliable over the years, and has lead to some truly memorable and exciting pieces of television.
Something like that was undoubtedly what the Korean producers were after when they lined up this segment - a drag race between a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and an AH1 Cobra military helicopter. The planners almost certainly did not expect the filming of the segment to go quite as wrong as it actually did, with the helicopter actually crashing into the dirt after the "drag race" had been completed. Thankfully, we're told that no one was seriously injured in the crash, but the footage, in the video below, is pretty damn chilling to watch, nevertheless.
Steve McQueen's last movie car, now Pawn Stars-owned, up for auction [w/video]
Sun, 03 Feb 2013The last car Steve McQueen ever drove in a movie is officially up for auction. The 1951 Chevrolet Styline DeLuxe Convertible you see above is now owned by none other than Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars fame, but once ferried McQueen around the set of his last film, 1980's The Hunter. That flick saw the Bullit star play a bumbling bounty hunter and didn't exactly set the box office on fire. McQueen bought the car after production wrapped, and four years later it sold at his estate sale at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas.
Flash forward to 2003, and the convertible received a full restoration back to near-stock specifications. Hagerty Insurance estimates the car to be worth around $45,000 without the significant providence. Given its ties to one of film's most popular gearheads, the old Chevrolet could fetch up to 10 times that when it goes under the gavel in Ft Luaderdale, Florida on March 22. You can head over to the Auctions America site for more information. You can also check out the trailer for The Hunter below.
