Gilbert, Arizona, United States

1969 EL CAMINO SS396. ORIGINAL MOTOR IS LONG GONE AND HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH A 454. TURBO 400 THAT SHIFTS GREAT AND A 12 BOLT REAR END. CAR WAS RESTORED ABOUT 18 YEARS AGO AND STILL LOOKS GREAT. 7000 MILES SINCE RESTORATION IN 1995. POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES AND A/C. COMPRESSOR IS CURRENTLY CYCLING SO IT PROBABLY HAS A LEAK IN THE SYSTEM. PAINT AND BODY ARE IN GREAT CONDITION WITH NO DAMAGE OR EVEN DOOR DINGS. A COUPLE OF MINOR SCRATCHES BUT YOU HAVE TO LOOK TO FIND THEM. BODY IS SUPER STRAIGHT WITH NO RUST FORMING OR STARTING ANYWHERE. WAS A ORIGINALLY FROST GREEN TOP AND BOTTOM BUT IS PAINTED GARNET RED. INTERIOR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION BUT THE CARPET HAS FADED OVER THE YEARS. COULD BE DYED BACK TO BLACK AS IT IS IN XLNT CONDITION. AM/FM STEREO HAS REPLACED ORIGINAL BUT THE INSTALL IS CLEAN AND THE HOLE IS ORIGINAL AND NOT DAMAGED. ALL GAGES WORK INCLUDING TACH WHICH YELLOW LINES AT 5400. NO RUST IN THE FLOOR PANS. SOME RUST FORMING IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SMUGGLERS BOX IN THE BED. CHROME IS IN GREAT SHAPE WITH NO DINGS OR RUST ON THE BUMPERS. NO RUST ON LOWER FENDERS, QUARTERS OR WHEEL RADIUS`. CORRECT 14" SS RIMS WITH 225/70/14 RADIAL T/AS. THIS CAR IS BEAUTIFUL AND RUNS GREAT NEEDING NOTHING EXCEPT A NEW OWNER THAT WILL CONTINUE TO CARE FOR IT.

EVERYBODY SAYS THEIR CAR IS A SHOW WINNER AND THE MAJORITY OF THEM ARE LOCAL PODUNK SHOWS WHERE ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SHOW UP. I WONT MAKE THAT CLAIM BUT IT IS VERY NICE AND WOULD TAKE ITS CLASS AT YOUR LOCAL SHOW MOST LIKELY.

IS IT REAL? DON`T KNOW FOR SURE. IT WAS A FREMONT CA. BUILD SO NO KC "L" ON THE TAG. IT`S BADGED CORRECTLY WHICH MEANS NOTHING. IT IS A 12 BOLT AND A TURBO 400 WHICH IS CORRECT FOR SOME. 5400 YELLOW TACH. IF ITS A TRIBUTE, ITS A NICELY DONE ONE AND I DON`T KNOW THAT ANYONE CAN PROVE ITS NOT REAL. I DID ALL MY HOMEWORK PRIOR TO BUYING IT AND IT ALL POINTS TO REAL BUT IT SEEMS THERE IS NO 100% WAY TO BE SURE WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL BLOCK. THE GUY I PURCHASED IT FROM GOT IT OUT OF CA. AND IT WAS SOLD TO HIM AS A REAL SS AND HE ALSO DID HIS HOMEWORK BACK IN 1996.

ALL THIS BEING SAID, THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL, STRAIGHT, EXCELLENT DRIVING AND STOPPING EL CAMINO THAT I WOULD DRIVE ANYWHERE, PLUS ITS A BIG BLOCK WITH A/C. NEEDS NOTHING.

$200 DEPOSIT DUE IMMEDIATELY VIA PAYPAL WITH THE BALANCE DUE IN 3 DAYS. CAR CAN REMAIN HERE FOR A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. IT WILL BE IN MY GARAGE, NOT OUTSIDE. I WILL NOT SHIP BUT I WILL HELP IN ANY WAY I CAN. SHIPPING IS THE BUYERS RESPONSIBILITY.

ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE MAIL OR CONTACT ME AT (970)640-8819. THANKS, BRIAN

More Corvette Stingray Factoids: Vanishing panel gaps and 26-mpg LT1

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

During January's Detroit Auto Show, we managed a longer than expected wandering tag-team interview with C7 Corvette chief engineering exec Tadge Juechter (pictured above), and LT1 engine boss Jordan Lee (pictured below). They are, quite honestly, two of the very nicest bigshot lads to ever walk the engineering corridors of an American manufacturer. Both are enthralled by what they're doing for a day job. So are we.
We've followed the pre-sale anticipation for the Chevrolet C7 Corvette Stingray like an Oreck vacuum yanking every speck of dirt from a well-trampled carpet. Everything is reportable and contains a grain of further knowledge about this dramatically important and cheered-for car, as it continues to be pressured into representing all that is superior about the American dream. The Corvette wears one heavy cloak.
So, most of what was talked about has been expertly reported already right here on Autoblog. But, looking through our notes again, both Jeuchter and Lee added facts to the buzzing mix.

These cars are headed to the Great Crusher In The Sky

Fri, 24 Aug 2012

It happens every year. We bid adieu to some cars and trucks that will be missed, and say good riddance to others wondering how they stayed around so long. Whether they're being killed off for slow sales or due to a new product coming along to replace them, the list of vehicles being discontinued after 2012 is surprisingly long and diverse.
CNN Money has compiled a list of departing vehicles, to which we've added a few more of our own. In the slow sales column, cars like the Lexus HS 250h, Mercedes-Benz R-Class and the full Maybach lineup appear, while the Ford Escape Hybrid, Mazda CX-7 and Hyundai Veracruz are all having their gaps filled with more modern and more fuel-efficient alternatives. Obvious exceptions to the rule include models that still sell in decent numbers like the Jeep Liberty and the Chrysler Town & Country (which will eventually be replaced by a crossover-like vehicle).
Check out our gallery of discontinued cars above, then scroll down for more information.

Chevrolet donates 300 vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Super Storm Sandy took out a lot of automobiles in its path of destruction through the Northeast last October. The number surpassed 250,000 at last count, and a few of those were owned by Chevrolet - cars either sitting on dealership lots or waiting at port to be shipped off. Rendered unsellable by the water damage inflicted by Sandy, these vehicles were facing the crusher. But Chevy didn't send them there.
Instead, Chevy had a better idea: It will be donating 300 of these vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders at Guardian Centers in Perry, GA. Chevy is the official automotive partner of Guardian Centers, which is an 830-acre facility that trains first responders in disaster preparedness. Junked cars are practically a consumable commodity there, where a full-size cityscape simulator gives trainees an entire urban center in which to train for all sorts of rescue operations and disaster scenarios.
Chevy says its particular vehicles will be used "in conjunction with role players for wide area searches, traffic congestion in emergency situations, counter terrorism, public order and mass casualty exercises." While grim scenarios all, we're certainly glad there are people out there preparing for the unexpected. While a zombie apocalypse isn't officially on the list of potential disasters to prepare for, when the virus hits, we'll be hot-footing it to Perry, GA to hang with these guys and gals.
