Down sizing and it needs to go and I no longer have the space and time!1968 Chevelle El Camino SS. Car has not been driven in 15 plus years and NEEDS RESTORATION.Factory SS car (138 VIN). Does not run from sitting (motor won't turn over) and DOES NOT have original big block engine.Currently has a 307 Small block and 350 turbo automatic transmission with all 1968 brackets ,AC mounts, power steering ,etc. Car was well equipped for 1968 - tilt, cruise, pwr windows ,pwr steering,gauges,AM/FM. Factory colors were harvest gold with tan/gold interior and vinyl top (black?).Car had been repainted and interior dyed black before I purchased car in 1979 without an engine or transmission.I put a 307 engine and 350 trans from a 1968 four door car I had in it to make a driver.Car was driven regularly from 1979-1998. The four door parts car is included if winner wants it. I kept it for frame and rear end and suspension if they were ever needed. I understand frame can be extended behind rear wheels for use in an el camino and boxed for strength. Front floors are okay - see pictures and judge for yourself.Back floors have been fiber glassed at some point for pin holes. Some rust around rear window channel. One front fender has lower patch panel roughed in and other front fender needs lower patch and has a dent on upper front. Windshield is cracked- all other glass is okay other than minor scratches and wear for a near 50 year old car. Interior is so so and dash has some cracks from age. Right front plastic vent panel bad (near floor). Car has: 3.08 Posi-traction 12 bolt rear with Moser c-clip replacement axles 15" Rally wheels Full factory gauge dash with "Roller Tach" Power windows and power steering and Air Conditioning (all parts are there- vents etc.) Tilt steering wheel Came with AM/FM radio but radio was removed before I became the owner - has after market radio Cruise control column and some parts under hood (not complete). NEW PARTS INCLUDED: After market quarter panel skins After market outer wheel wells GM New old stock (NOS) bed chrome (all except one front corner piece) still in boxes/wrappers. GM NOS rear bumper (not pictured but included) New door gaskets If you have questions please ask and I will answer as honestly as possible. Car needs to go.Deposit due within 48 hours. I will be glad to help coordinate pickup - just remember neither car runs or is drivable. Large transport may require cars be moved to a more open area before loading. Pics Aplenty: Meet the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra [w/poll]
Thu, 13 Dec 2012Today was a pretty big day for General Motors, debuting the all-new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light-duty pickup trucks ahead of their official showcase at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. And now that the dust has settled at GM's big reveal event, we've had a chance to snap dozens of photos of the new pickup pair from every angle.
We already told you the important bits earlier today (click here in case you missed it), but let's recap. Under the hood are three new engines - a 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8 (you know, a version of the small-block that'll also be found under the hood of the C7 Corvette), all mated to six-speed automatic transmissions. The 2014 model year marks the return of the Z71 off-road package with Rancho shocks, front tow hooks and beefier underbody protection. Inside, there's a host of new technology and a greater focus on better quality and refinement.
Some of the nitty-gritty specifics (like engine output numbers and fuel economy) have yet to be revealed, and since we haven't driven the finished products yet, it's hard to say how these trucks will fare against rivals like the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150. For now, we can only judge these two books by their covers, and while we do like the designs of the new trucks, we Autoblog staffers are torn on exactly which one looks best.
The 2014 Chevrolet SS sedan is for drivers who value performance above all else
Sat, 16 Feb 2013The car you see above is the 2014 Chevrolet SS, and it's important both because it is the first rear-wheel-drive performance sedan from Chevy in 17 years, and because it will be the nameplate the brand uses on NASCAR tracks all across the country starting this year.
Though it wears a name as American as baseball and apple pie, the machine was actually designed and built in Australia, sharing most of its parts with the brand-new VF-model Holden Commodore. That said, the basic chassis bits are shared with other Chevrolet models like the Camaro and Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle.
While Chevrolet is happy to sell a Malibu or Impala to anyone looking for a mainstream family sedan, but the SS is reserved for buyers interested first and foremost in performance. Most sedans sold these days are front-wheel drive, which is great for everyday driving and when the weather goes bad, but the SS is instead a rear-wheel-drive vehicle aimed at enthusiasts who love to drive and who prefer speed and performance above all else.
Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit
Mon, 20 Jun 2011Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.
