The Muscle and the Heartbeat

1967 Chevrolet El Camino

Offered For Sale is a beautiful 1967 Chevy El Camino. It is very clean and features a relatively new paint job that looks fantastic. The car is not a showroom example, but a very clean driver that’s above par. The panels are very straight and the underside is excellent. Doors close like a refrigerator. There is no rust or body damage. The previous owner had the Camino for a number of years and it was always garaged. Be sure to see the YouTube video at the end of the photo presentation, where you hear the motor and see the car drive!

This hotrod features :

* 327 V-8
* 4 BBL Rochester Quadrajet Carburetor
* Muncie four-speed manual transmission with Hurst shifter
* Headers
* New aluminum high-performance radiator
* Posi-Traction
* 12-bolt 411 differential
* Centerline style wheels
* Dual exhaust with Flowmasters

I believe the eng/trans/diff numbers are not factory original, yet are desirable components which add to the performance and thrill of owning and driving this muscle car. This El Camino looks and sounds wonderful. Because of the 411 gears, there is a bunch of torque, but the motor revs high when going faster speeds. It’s more street racer than freeway flyer. This El Camino is a bare basics car. There is no air conditioning, power windows, or power steering. Open up the hood and it’s just motor and horsepower. Ahhh, simplicity.

This El Camino is a turn-key car that is ready to go. It will need tires, however, as they are old and cause a slight vibration when going on the highway. Also, the speedometer works, but reads a bit faster than the actual MPH. There’s a dent/scrape in the rear bumper, near the license plate. Other than that, the chrome is in excellent condition throughout.

Interior is clean. The driver side cushion has a slight split in the seam, and there‘s some typical wear on the top near the window. The carpets and door panels are in nice condition. There are a couple minor cracks on the top of the dash. Windshield and all glass is in very good condition. Windows roll up easily. There is one, single key that operates the ignition and both doors. The tailgate opens and closes with ease.

The electrical system is in fine operating condition. The lights and signals all work. Horn and wipers function well, too. There is no radio or antenna. Fortunately, though, the dash is not cut up and it still has the factory holes which will make installation of a stock unit easy.

This El Camino is quite a crowd pleaser. Its striking appearance makes strangers want to talk to you and share their fond memories of growing up in a time when there were muscle cars all over the place. You can take it your local car shows and display her as she sits. Owning this El Camino will make you proud. It’s also a fine investment that’s fun and is sure to rise in value. No doubt. Bid to Win and Enjoy!

Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war

Sun, 30 Dec 2012

A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?

Chevy monitors drivers' biometrics while experiencing new Corvette Stingray

Fri, 25 Oct 2013

We tell you about what a car is like to drive every day, remarking on throttle response, steering weight and feedback, squat, dive, brake fade and a dozen or more other factors of performance. What we can't tell you, though, is what the car does to us - how its performance impacts us, physically. That's what makes this video series from Chevrolet so darn cool.
The Bow-Tie brand rented out Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, got several (very) different individuals together, strapped a bunch of sensors to their bodies to record biometric data ranging from heart rate to respiration to brain activity, and then handed them keys to the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The results are explained in a series of videos, devoted to each driver, showing how different people react to the Corvette's performance.
If, like your author, you're a nerd for medical science, this is going to be a fascinating set of videos. If not, it's still pretty cool to see how the body of someone with racing experience, like Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, reacts to tracking a car like the Corvette Stingray compared to the owner of legendary Detroit barbecue joint, Slows BBQ. Take a look below for all six videos from the series, or hop over to the Corvette Vimeo channel for the interactive experience, where you can see all the different metrics.

First privately owned Corvette Stingray blitzes 1/4 mile in 12.23 at 114.88 mph

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

Chevrolet's latest road rocket, the Corvette Stingray, is a very quick car. If one needs further proof of that, we recommend they take a look at this video from Hennessey of what is claimed to be the first privately owned C7 Corvette to make a pass down the quarter mile. Not just any quarter mile, mind, this black C7 blitzed its way down the tuner's primary testing dragstrip. The Chevrolet ran the quarter in just 12.23 seconds at 114.88 miles per hour. That is a very quick time for a stock car.
Equipped with the Z51 package and a six-speed automatic transmission, not only does the C7 run a solid time, but it does so with little to no drama. That won't last though, as Hennessey will likely return it to its owner with far more power - we just hope they show a drag run of the completed product. Take a look below to watch the C7's 12.23-second run on video.
