2015 Chevrolet Corvette on 2040-cars
Austin, Texas, United States
If you have any questions or would like to view the car in person please email me at: annettehaschke@netzero.net .
It is loaded with every option available
(except I didn't see the point of ordering two roof panels) - 3LZ, Z07 Ultimate Performance Package, Carbon Fiber
Visible Package, Competition Sports Seats, Removable Roof Panel with Visible Carbon Fiber, Black Aluminum Z06
Wheels, Indoor Vehicle Cover (Red, never used), Jake Logo Center Caps, Cargo Shade with Crossed Flag, Front Premium
Carpet Mats, Battery Protection Package. MSRP was $106,670. On top of this, I added XPEL film (full hood,
fenders, mirrors), window tinting, and K40 Radar/Laser. Out the door this car was $117,722.26! I replaced the
Pilot Sport Cup track tires (undriveable in the rain) with Michelin Pilot Super Sport ZP Run Flats (tires alone
cost $2,100) and the crappy stock DOT3 brake fluid with Motul DOT4 racing fluid. First service performed on June
22 with 2,789 miles on the odometer. Since I don't track the car, I removed the clear plexiglas middle rear wicker
element (only served to sap gas mileage) but obviously I still have it with the car. Never tracked, never smoked
in, always adult driven. Selling to fund my very expensive racing habit (Porsche).

Steve McQueen's last movie car, now Pawn Stars-owned, up for auction [w/video]
Sun, 03 Feb 2013The last car Steve McQueen ever drove in a movie is officially up for auction. The 1951 Chevrolet Styline DeLuxe Convertible you see above is now owned by none other than Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars fame, but once ferried McQueen around the set of his last film, 1980's The Hunter. That flick saw the Bullit star play a bumbling bounty hunter and didn't exactly set the box office on fire. McQueen bought the car after production wrapped, and four years later it sold at his estate sale at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas.
Flash forward to 2003, and the convertible received a full restoration back to near-stock specifications. Hagerty Insurance estimates the car to be worth around $45,000 without the significant providence. Given its ties to one of film's most popular gearheads, the old Chevrolet could fetch up to 10 times that when it goes under the gavel in Ft Luaderdale, Florida on March 22. You can head over to the Auctions America site for more information. You can also check out the trailer for The Hunter below.
800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable
Tue, 01 Oct 2013What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.
GM throttles back Chevy Malibu, Buick LaCrosse production over swollen inventories
Wed, 06 Feb 2013As inventory of the Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse continues to pile up, General Motors will be idling its Fairfax Assembly Plant for two weeks, according to Automotive News. This move comes about a month after the plant was shut down for three weeks in late December and early January for the same reason. As of January 31, the GM had a 94-day supply of Malibu stock while the LaCrosse was a little worse with a 117-day supply.
Just last week, GM announced that it would be investing $600 million in upgrading this plant, but it's unclear what future plans the company has in store for Fairfax considering slow sales of both the plant's models. We do expect a refreshed and more luxurious LaCrosse shortly and an early design update for the Malibu to be announced at some point this year, although we have had no official word as to when either will happen.
