This is a truly special 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.
This Corvette was built on April 26th, 1966 at the Chevrolet's St Louis Plant. It was delivered to and sold by
Adcox-Kirby Chevrolet in Chattanooga Tennessee.
It is equipped with the following options:
M-21 Close Ratio 4 speed transmission
Rally Red Paint
STD- Black Vinyl interior
White Convertible top
Tinted Windshield
AM/FM Radio
Off-road series exhaust
7.75 x 15 Goodyear white wall tire
Posi-traction Axle with 4.11 ratio gears
L79 option 350hp
Ownership history:
I have documentation from day 1 of the ownership history of the car. It was purchased on August 9th 1966 by J. C.
Lowry in Chattanooga TN. It was sold just over a year later to another Lowry family member less than 100 miles
away in northwest Georgia where the car spent the next 48 years. After changing hands a few times it was purchased
by John Pirkle Sr. on December 3rd 1988 with 55,610 miles. John Pirkle Sr. was a master NCRS judge who helped
write the NCRS judging manuals. There is a picture below of the March/April 2015 NCRS Driveline which credits him
with significant contributions to the development of the judging manual. John bought this car because it was a
local low mile original car which was never abused or restored. Over the course of 27 years of ownership he
repainted the car with the correct lacquer paint, had the engine rebuilt and the chassis detailed with all the
respect of a master NCRS judge. The car started in such incredible condition the body was never off the frame and
all bonding strips are still intact. No details were overlooked in preserving this original car to exact factory
specifications. Those of you who knew John, appreciate his integrity and devotion to the hobby and that is
evident in his own car. He added only 1150 miles in total over his 27 year ownership and preserved this car up to
his unfortunate passing in 2011. I was able to acquire it from the Pirkle family earlier in 2015. He loved this
corvette and it is a stunning example of John Prikle Sr's standards and commitment to the Corvette hobby.
Top Flight:
I prepared the car for NCRS judging on May 31st 2015. I replaced the convertible top with a correct Al Knock date
coded top, using an original windlace header. Using the judging manual (that John Pirkle Sr. wrote), I went page
by page correcting anything that was incorrect by NCRS standards and have all receipts. I've driven the car over
350 miles in 2015 and everything works as it should, including the clock. It not only looks great, but with 4.11
gears and the L79 350hp it is truly a pleasure to drive. The results were worth the time and effort spent, scoring
very well at 98.2% the first time out. Pictures of the judging sheets and certificate are included. The biggest
highlight of judging for me was not losing a single point on the interior scoring 790/790 points. It is a
completely original interior and received FULL credit in all areas from the judges. Overall the car scored
4419/4510 points. Of the 91 points lost, all are very minor issues which could be addressed for future judging
possibly scoring over 99% the next time out.
This is truly a unique opportunity to invest in a very special Corvette. Looking at the condition, ownership
history, judging results and documentation, this is very rare combination worthy of preserving.
There is also an auxiliary hardtop for the car which was painted with the car and matches perfectly. The headliner
and weatherstripping are showing some age and could be redone. link

GM recalling 250,000 SUVs over door electronics

Mon, 20 Aug 2012

After a door-fire investigation that dates back to February, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially announced a recall today that affects around 250,000 General Motors SUVs for a faulty driver's door module. The recall applies to the Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7X from the 2006 and 2007 model years, as well as the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL for vehicles sold and/or registered in the Snow Belt.
Road salt use in these midwestern and northern states can lead to corrosion of the driver's door module on these GMT360 and GMT370 vehicles, which allows water to come in contact with the circuit board. If shorted out, the vehicle's power door locks and power windows will not work, and could possibly lead to overheating and, in some circumstances, a fire. No official word on how many total vehicles caught on fire, but back in June, 28 fires had been reported to the government agency. A fix for the problem is still being worked out, but all affected vehicle owners will be notified by GM.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible headed for Geneva debut

Mon, 28 Jan 2013

While most of the world is still coming down from all the hype surrounding the debut of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this month, we're already looking to the future. And according to Autoweek, the next chapter in the C7 story will unfold at the Geneva Motor Show in March. That's right, General Motors is reportedly using the Swiss stage as its venue to debut the Corvette Stingray convertible.
If this strikes you as odd, you aren't alone. After all, with a car that's such an American icon, we'd fully expect Chevrolet to unveil it here on our shores in either Chicago or New York. But according to Autoweek, GM is looking to boost export sales of its halo car, and since the C7 was engineered to compete with the world's best and brightest, showing it off in Geneva is somewhat of a smart move. What's more, those with sharp memories will recall that GM used the Geneva expo to debut the sixth-generation C6 Corvette convertible back in March 2004, so there's also a precedent.
Details surrounding the Corvette Stingray convertible are still slim, though we fully expect the 6.2-liter V8 and choice of either six-speed automatic or seven-speed manual transmissions to carry over unchanged. Prototypes spotted on the road showed the car fitted with a cloth convertible roof, as well.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible gives us a couple of looks

Sat, 02 Mar 2013

Put away your pixel paintbrushes, kids. Pack up your Photoshop. This is the real-deal 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible in its first official images. The droptop Chevrolet will roll into the bright lights of the Palexpo exhibition at next week's Geneva Motor Show, a four-wheeled statement of intent that General Motors is serious about taking its Corvette franchise global.
Chevy isn't providing anything in the way of further details with these two shots, but we've learned at least a couple of things about the car shown here. First off, the example seen in these images is fitted with the optional Z51 Performance Package - something that isn't immediately evident because there's no sign of the coupe model's prominent ductwork on its rear haunches. In order to accommodate the power folding hard tonneau cover, the vents that feed the transmission and differential coolers have been relocated to the underside of the car. The dark paint color on this example also does a good job of muting the contrasting black front fender vents and hood opening - Z51-spec design details that have proven to be somewhat controversial.
One other thing to note: These two shots also display the Stingray wearing different alloy wheels than the split five-spoke design shown at the hardtop's Detroit Auto Show unveiling in January. The simpler, thin five-spoke wheels should do a good job of showing off the Z51's upgraded brakes, and they'll be optional on the coupe as well.
