1961 Corvette Convertible Numbers Matching Survivor W/ Hardtop on 2040-cars

1961 Corvette Convertible. I am selling this car for the family of the owner who has passed away.  He had owned the car for 20 years and the previous owner had it for 14 years.  Prior to me removing the car from their garage, it had been in storage for the last 10 years. It has now been fully serviced by a specialist and runs, drives and stops great.

This car has its original, numbers matching 283 / 230hp V8 with a 3 speed manual transmission. Oil pressure is excellent and ALL of the gauges work. The car was originally a black car with blue interior. It retains its original blue interior and is in very good condition for its age. The car was re-painted a 1972 Corvette blue in the late 1970s. The paint is in generally good condition, but shows its age in areas. These spots include some small cracks, chips and other defects. In all, still very presentable for a survivor.  There are some dents in the cove moldings on the passenger side, the the drivers side is quite good. I have a set of NOS moldings still in the wrappers that could go with the car.  the radio is an aftermarket replacement, but I have an original wonderbar radio and speaker that will go with the car.  The spare tire, jack and tools are in the trunk.  Even the owners manual is with the car.

The chassis is in very good condition with no signs of serious corrosion.

The factory hard top is also in very good condition, although there is some crazing in the window. The soft top is white and the top mechanism is very good. The top is in good condition and the rear window is clear and flexible. Most of the weather strips on the top and doors appear to be original and are rather crispy.

The Tachometer and the Clock are inoperative. Everything else works.

During its recent service it also received a new fuel tank and sending unit.

This car is a very solid, reliable, complete and original example.

Please ask any questions you might have prior to bidding. Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs. The car is being sold "as is" without any warranties of any kind. I encourage you to inspect the car in person. Thank you for your interest.

Corvette Stingray designer lists five goals of new exterior shape

Fri, 12 Apr 2013

Redesigning an icon is a difficult task, especially when you've got a blank sheet of paper in front of you and the all-new C7 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is intended to be your final objective.
General Motors has released a new short video featuring Kirk Bennion of the Corvette's exterior design team, talking about the challenges of sculpting Chevrolet's new flagship sports car and the five goals the team had to keep in mind as it worked. In the end, Bennion's team had the pleasure of seeing their hard work take center stage as the Corvette captured the world's eyes at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year.

Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner

Sat, 24 Aug 2013

For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"

GM tinkering with Silverado, Sierra model mix amidst strong early sales

Mon, 04 Nov 2013

Variety, as they say, is the spice of life. That's a lesson that is currently being taught to General Motors, because despite a strong showing from its 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, the General's pickup sales still can't best those of cross-town rival Ford.
With 59,163 trucks moved, GM fell just over 1,000 units short of toppling Ford, and one of the main reasons for that, according to GM's chief sales analyst, was due to a lack of variety in the engines and body styles available on dealer lots. "We are still over-weighted toward crew-cab V8 trucks. Our light-duty mix will moderate over time as our launch progresses," said Kurt McNeil.
Loading dealers with the popular combination of the 5.3-liter V8 and the four-door, Crew Cab body style was intentional during the truck's launch, but as supplies of leftover 2013 models, which are being sold at heavy incentives, are beginning to wane, both budget-conscious and high-dollar buyers are looking elsewhere instead of at the volume model pickups.
