This Chevrolet Greenbrier has been a favorite. As we enter the retirement chapter of our lives, we will be occasionally selling the treasured classics from our private west coast collection.  Believe me, they are some of the best in the west. This Greenbrier is a great example, an actual 63,967 mile driven vehicle as of this writing. It arrives with a documented, "Box A" clear Arizona title showing the same. We purchased the van from an elderly lay pastor. Pastor John bought it in 1998 from the widow of his best friend, the original owner.

It is a newer restoration. When it started, the Greenbrier was a pristine original, without ever having any rust nor body issues. It had never been in an accident. The body panels are as straight as a west Texas preacher! Several years ago it was media blasted to bare metal. (We have documented photos that go along with the sale) Subsequently, epoxy primered and painted with a similar looking color to the original...A two stage paint. The paint, fit and finish are excellent, with a very deep shine.

The mechanicals are excellent. It boasts the very desirable 110HP motor. Runs wonderful, with no smoke nor related issues. 1965 was the last production year for the Chevrolet Greenbrier. Only 1528 were made. When is the last time you have seen a Greenbrier, especially one in this pristine condition? They are the rarest of the breed, most desired by the collectors and the fewest numbers within the entire Greenbrier model run. This is a astute investment going forward. It has the 3 speed floor shift transmission, also in excellent condition. All lights work as they should, speedometer, directional signals and gauges as well. New NOS side mirrors and antenna. The radio works well. I do not have a speaker hooked up, but it does function very well. The interior has a nice clean and shiny look. Great appearance with comfortable seating. I can't tell you how much fun this Greenbrier is to drive! Runs cool within our desert climate. New windshield and gasket. Side windows roll up and down with ease and are nice as well. Chrome bumpers are excellent. All the trim looks great. Tires are in real good shape. The steering is excellent. Front end is tight and in great condition. Frame and under carriage are in excellent shape as well. It shows in an original fashion, without being spray bombed to hide anything. As photo'd, nice and clean without issues.

Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. See for yourself in our image gallery above.

GM says hybrid Corvette no laughing matter [w/poll]

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

When Mark Reuss was in LA recently, he sat down to have a few words with the scribes at the Los Angeles Times. When the issue of a hybrid Corvette came up, Reuss answered with "Don't laugh." The General Motors president is a complete fan of the possibility, calling it "attractive" and "really fun," believing it would improve GM expertise and that "people would love it."
Naturally, the president being supportive of an idea doesn't give indication that a hybrid Corvette is on the way. However, with supercars like the Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari giving hybrid tech a solid, if remote, place in the performance car world, the inexorable trickle-down of technology means we shouldn't be surprised if and when it does happen.
And now that we have that non-negative half-answer to a speculative question, it would be irresponsible for us not to commence rumormilling for the C8 Corvette. Taking Reuss at his word, the C8 will obviously be a hybrid with all-wheel-drive - the left side wheels driven with electric motors, the right side with the mid-mounted, four-cylinder diesel engine. With coefficient of drag of just .16, figure on a 0-to-60 mile-per-hour time of under 2 seconds and an all-electric range of something like 30 miles at top speed. Don't forget, folks, you read it here first.

GM won't pay owners of recalled cars for lost value

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

Kenneth Feinberg, the man in charge of the General Motors compensation fund dealing with the its widespread ignition switch woes, has issued an informal, two-letter response to the plaintiffs in more than 70 lawsuits seeking redress for lost resale value of their Cobalts: "No." The cases were recently combined into one, but Feinberg told The Detroit News that the fund will deal "only with death and physical injury claims," and that "perceived diminished value" will get no consideration.
ALG, the firm specializing in establishing residual values, determined that Cobalt owners had lost $300 compared to the segment competition and doesn't envision any long-term effects from the recall situation. Feinberg's statement comes in advance of public details on how the compensation fund will work and adheres to GM's long-held position on the matter. The company has already asked a judge to throw out such suits using the pre-bankruptcy defense, even as it stopped using that defense in cases of injury and death.
With plenty of potential gain from the GM suit, however, don't expect the plaintiffs to give up yet. When Toyota was sued for the same reason during the unintended acceleration debacle, it eventually settled the case for between $1 billion and $1.4 billion just to get it over with. Since the 85 law firms involved in the Toyota litigation took home more than $250 million of that total, we shouldn't expect the attorneys to give up on a GM payout, either.
