This is the sporty 900 coupe Corvair made in 1963- a very solid runner and decent car that just needs a new good home. She starts right up, no smoke, drives good and shifts through all gears well. The previous owner said it had a new clutch installed but I don't have paperwork to prove that. Has lots of Corvair club stickers so that makes sense that someone took good care of it mechanically. The car has a nice clean engine bay, good wires, coil and new battery. The brakes stop well and work good, no issues. Floor pans have been patched at some point with rivets and welds. The rear quarters are rough from water and need work- the front has some holes alog the lower valence and on the top corners. Inside the frunk (front trunk) the sides have rust out. A very good project car to work while you drive it. Has an electric fuel pump under the car to eliminate the worry of the old tricky mechanical one.

The interior needs some refreshing, the seat bottoms are torn along seams and the headliner is original- intact just stained from age. The padded dash, which was an addition, is torn from sun and needs to be taken off- not a biggie. All gauges work- even gas gauge. Emergency brake holds the car and both signals work- all lights are good. The body and undercarriage are rusty- it is a midwest car and has the normal rot from age and salt. Could use some patches or can be enjoyed as is. Newer and good tires, clean wheels and great dog-dish caps. All interior and exterior chrome is there but driver's door inside handle doesn't open the door- so a reach out is needed. Back seat does swivel down for storage and sleeping! Both windows work and roll up and down easily.

Has an AM radio with an FM tuner hidden in the glove box to keep the stock appearance. I do have the antenna but had it off during pics- but it is complete. Winner to please pay with cash or a bank wire; I have a clean title in my name. Thanks for looking and ask any questions, this gem just needs a good home.

Subprime financing on the rise in new car sales, leasing too

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

We all remember the financial crisis that began several years back. At its core was a splurge of subprime lending for housing loans. The housing bubble burst, triggering a collapse of the mortgage-backed securities market. Apparently, those types of loans still exist in the automotive industry, and the market share for these types of "nonprime, subprime, and deep subprime," loans has grown 13.6 percent compared to the third quarter a year ago.
According to an Automotive News report, high-risk lending expanded to 24.8 percent of total loans in Q3, up from 21.9 percent for this time last year. As this level increased, average credit scores of borrowers dropped to 755, down from 763 a year ago. In that time, the average financing amount increased $90 per vehicle, to $25,963.
At 818, Volvo maintains the highest per-owner credit score, while Mitsubishi has the lowest, at 694. The highest rate of borrowers was at Toyota, with 14 percent of the market, followed by Ford with 13.1 percent and Chevrolet at 11.1.

Why Cadillac thinks it needs to succeed in Europe to sell cars elsewhere

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

Ward's Auto has taken an interesting look at the renewed focus General Motors is showing towards Cadillac in Europe. Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe (pictured), says in order for the luxury brand to thrive in China, it first needs to succeed in the old country. The reason? Chinese buyers look to Europe for cues as to what's deemed worthy of the term "luxury." There are hurdles to the plan, however. In addition to the fact that the EU is flooded with high-end nameplates, GM doesn't necessarily have the distribution network in place to put buyers behind the wheel.
Combine that with persistent economic woes and Cadillac's checkered past marred by a lack of diesel engine options and a bankrupt distributor, and the road ahead for the brand looks like less of an uphill climb and more like a straight-up cliff face. But Docherty is optimistic and says she has a plan for the brand. We recommend heading over to Ward's for a closer look at the full read.

Are you the 2014 Corvette Grand Sport?

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

When are stripes more than just stripes? Follow up question: Is the product development team at Chevrolet really cocky enough to hide the next C7 Corvette variant in plain sight? This very recently spotted, and ostensibly obscured C7 asks a lot more questions than it answers, but there's at least some evidence to support that it might be the next Corvette Grand Sport.
The first and most obvious tip-off that something is up with this 'Vette revolves around those silver stripes. Obviously the stripes themselves don't necessarily denote a new model. However, when Chevy recently launched its "colorizer" website for the Stingray, there was no provision made for racing stripes - solid colors only.
Grand Sport exhibit number two is actually an incriminating lack of badges. The production Corvettes we've seen to date have all carried Stingray badges on their fenders, just behind the vent. The car seen in these images has no such badges, which is an intriguing omission on an car that looks like a production-spec vehicle otherwise.
