                                                                    Sun Dried Tomato

RELISTED. Buyer never provided deposit and did not have funds lined up to close.

You know you just don't find them like this. A Real 138 Super Sport Factory Air car with the factory grease pencil markings "13817" and other grease pencil numbers still on the firewall, unmolested. The overall Metal and frame condition of this Arizona SS is pretty exemplary of a very long life in this area. This is a real factory Bolero Red SS396 with matching Red interior.

Although Dry Arizona is kind in terms of lack of rust which is a really big thing, still, if left  in the intense sun and heat, you have here  what I call a  "Sun Dried Tomato." Evidently, the owner did not have a carport and the hood, roof and truck paint is thinned beyond retrieval.

With just a paint job, you would have one gorgeous, appreciating, collectible

396 Super Sport. I don't have to tell you that these cars done, command some pretty mighty money.

Title-Clear Arizona title in my name.

Options

Besides Super Sport options, notable options include the Factory Air Conditioning, Tilt Steering wheel, Power Steering, Push button Radio,, 12 bolt  Posti traction and  3 speed Turbo 400 Automatic.

Body Condition

The Body appears very straight with good fitment every where you look. I had my fabricator/ metal man go all over and under this car before I bought it as I wanted his expert opinion to validate what I thought was an unusually solid car. He was very impressed with the car and  found one small hole in the passenger floor pan (which I still cannot find) he could easily fix and recommended  we install new poly body mounts soon.

Pictures show the front floor pans, that  appear to be the original factory pans with

factory paint still on them.

Also check out the engine bay, the inner fenders, radiator support, cowl and firewall are truly in amazing condition. New factory dripper style valve covers and air cleaner with PCV and vent tube was installed to finish off a really nice factory looking engine bay.

Trunk floor is raw and unpainted with light surface rust so hiding nothing, dirty but looks solid and the old factory spatter paint still exists on the quarter panels.

The original Jack is in the trunk. (pictures)

Importantly, frame and undercarriage look good. (pictures) The exhaust system appears newer from exhaust manifolds through mufflers. But tail pipes are missing so exhaust is obnoxiously loud. Personally, I would replace with some muscle car magnaflows.

Major Mechanical Condition

This Super Sport  appears to have about a 10 year old exterior paint job, otherwise leaving things mostly original. The engine appears to be a replacement with a 1969/70 396/325 (402) with correct GM factory exhaust manifolds and correct Rochester Quadrajet and Factory Air conditioning.  It starts immediately and runs great with not a hint of smoke or blow by. I drove it in 100 degree heat and it ran cool and did not detonate when shut off and it runs on regular unleaded. Ignition has been upgraded to HEI electronics.

It flies straight at highway speeds and shifts very effortlessly without any hesitation or tranny or rear end noises or jerks. The former owner/restorer installed new Spider gears and a new positraction unit in the factory 12 bolt, as there was slack. No slack now, but there is a slight hum on acceleration.

A note about the Air Conditioning. Pretty much complete with a condenser missing ($250 new) However,  All the really rare under and behind the dash parts, even the hoses to side vents are all there. I know how expensive it gets to replace multiple sections of the a/c duct system and pulling the dashboard out to install it all, not to mention the time spent sourcing used duct parts as i just had to do it on a 68 Chevelle. Front signal lights are missing from bumper.

Glass

All the Glass is in good condition without the usual scratches and door windows roll up and down.

Chrome and Trim

Chrome bumpers look quite good and trim is good driver condition, but not show quality.
Its all there, did not notice anything missing in the way of emblems.

Interior

Serviceable and driver quality, showing some age.  The vinyl seat covers are good except the rear upper top most section under the window is sun damaged. A New dash cap, kick panels and red package shelf  have recently been installed. Odometer works, but speedometer does not.

Wheels & Tires

15" GM Rally wheels in good condition with stainless beauty rims and nice two piece caps that are correct for this model year.

****Because I have this SS priced to sell, A note on the tires: they are Brand New BFG Radial TAs, just mounted yesterday and have only 10 miles on them. With Buy It Now, they go with the car BUT If the car sells for less than the Buy it now, the car comes with the same Rally wheels, caps and trim rings as shown but whitewall radial tires that have a lot of tread on them. Or buyer can pay $620 for the BFG T/As and have both sets of tires. *******

Why Selling?

I have a rotisserie restoration on a 69 Big Block Z10 Camaro in process, and a 1968 SS396 El Camino and a 1965 396 SS Chevelle almost done and a 1968 RS/SS Camaro convert that is finished and so I will soon have 6 cars and a 4 car garage!

The last 3 cars I sold here on Ebay all sold at the Buy it Now Price, so I think I know  where to price a car to sell. And check my feedback on those sales.

This is a driver as it sits and you can cruise around town as a rat rod, just paint it or
completely restore it.

Email your questions, I will respond daily, inspections are always encouraged. Inspections welcome but only before bidding. Email to schedule.

YES, This is a true SS, not a clone. the Vin number identifies it as an SS with  vin digits of 138 and the title matches the vin tag which is affixed to the body with the original factory rosette rivets. The trim tag shows it is an original Red on Red car as well. Ask questions about anything you want to know about.

2015 Chevrolet Cruze spied on its home turf

Tue, 23 Apr 2013

The next Chevrolet Cruze isn't set to go into production for about another year, and we're just now seeing prototypes of the new compact running around here in the States. Not much more has been revealed since we saw the car blasting through the snow in Europe, but we can still clearly see new design elements like the larger grille, slimmer headlamps and redesigned taillamps.
Our spy photographers worked up a composite image of this Cruze prototype alongside the current model, and here, we can clearly see some big visual changes are in store for the new model. The 2015 Cruze's hood slopes downward more dramatically, the windshield is more heavily raked, and the roofline looks more fluid overall. The next-generation Cruze will ride on the new global Delta platform that will also underpin other General Motors vehicles like the Chevrolet Volt and Equinox.
As for what's under the hood, we expect the normal range of gasoline four-cylinder engines (both naturally aspirated and turbocharged), and the compact's new turbodiesel four should carry over, as well. Have a look at the full brace of spy photos in the gallery above.

Why Cadillac thinks it needs to succeed in Europe to sell cars elsewhere

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

Ward's Auto has taken an interesting look at the renewed focus General Motors is showing towards Cadillac in Europe. Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe (pictured), says in order for the luxury brand to thrive in China, it first needs to succeed in the old country. The reason? Chinese buyers look to Europe for cues as to what's deemed worthy of the term "luxury." There are hurdles to the plan, however. In addition to the fact that the EU is flooded with high-end nameplates, GM doesn't necessarily have the distribution network in place to put buyers behind the wheel.
Combine that with persistent economic woes and Cadillac's checkered past marred by a lack of diesel engine options and a bankrupt distributor, and the road ahead for the brand looks like less of an uphill climb and more like a straight-up cliff face. But Docherty is optimistic and says she has a plan for the brand. We recommend heading over to Ward's for a closer look at the full read.

GM says hybrid Corvette no laughing matter [w/poll]

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

When Mark Reuss was in LA recently, he sat down to have a few words with the scribes at the Los Angeles Times. When the issue of a hybrid Corvette came up, Reuss answered with "Don't laugh." The General Motors president is a complete fan of the possibility, calling it "attractive" and "really fun," believing it would improve GM expertise and that "people would love it."
Naturally, the president being supportive of an idea doesn't give indication that a hybrid Corvette is on the way. However, with supercars like the Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari giving hybrid tech a solid, if remote, place in the performance car world, the inexorable trickle-down of technology means we shouldn't be surprised if and when it does happen.
And now that we have that non-negative half-answer to a speculative question, it would be irresponsible for us not to commence rumormilling for the C8 Corvette. Taking Reuss at his word, the C8 will obviously be a hybrid with all-wheel-drive - the left side wheels driven with electric motors, the right side with the mid-mounted, four-cylinder diesel engine. With coefficient of drag of just .16, figure on a 0-to-60 mile-per-hour time of under 2 seconds and an all-electric range of something like 30 miles at top speed. Don't forget, folks, you read it here first.
