This is a very original '69 Caprice that is equipped much like an Impala SS because it has bucket seats, automatic with console shift, and the 427/390 engine. It drives like a dream as the engine was overhauled according to the classic car dealer I purchased it from. The front end has been rebuilt with new upper and lower control arms and idler arms. The front and rear leather seats are original and in excellent condition. It has head rests but one needs to be recovered and I have the material. The car is loaded with power brakes, windows, and locks as well as rear defroster. and AM/FM radio. The speedometer does not work at this time. The body is super straight and in great condition with no rust as it spent its life in the northwest. The car has been repainted but it is an average paint job. The vinyl roof is in good shape but it is faded. The engine code matches a '69 427 engine and all the block dates and stampings are correct for the car but the engine VIN is too hard to read so I can't say that it's matching numbers. The engine is very strong and pulls hard. It's nice to have that 427 Corvette engine under the hood. It has a 12 bolt rear end, dual exhausts with nearly new mufflers, and rally wheels. I replaced the A/C compressor and recharged the system but the car still needs a thermal vacuum switch to operate the automatic climate control system and get the air into the car. The windshield has been replaced and the rest of the glass is in very good condition. This car really turns heads! Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check
Fri, 01 Mar 2013Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. GM recalls select Chevy Cruze, Sonic and Buick Verano models over airbag issue
Wed, 14 Nov 2012General Motors is recalling certain 2012 Buick Verano, Chevrolet Cruze and Sonic models due to a defect in the driver's airbag system. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the airbag has a shorting bar which may contact two internal terminals. If that happens during a crash, the supplemental restraint may not deploy, increasing the risk of driver injury. The recall includes a total of 2,949 units.
GM will contact owners and replace the steering wheel airbag coil at no cost. At this point, it's unclear when the recall will begin, though owners may contact the automaker at 1-800-521-7300 for more information. You may also take a closer look at the full NHTSA notice below.
