1985 Chevy 3/4 ton diesel 4X4. Has 67,000 original miles. It was used by a city only for painting curbs before I owned it. Interior is in very good condition and it has a seat out of a 97 chevy pickup. The body is above average for the age. It has some rust on the rocker panels and  the cab corners. The drivers side is mainly just surface rust and paint chipped off. The passenger side has a small hole rusted in the front of the rocker panel. Overall a nice looking pickup. It has some oil leaks but nothing out of the ordinary for a 6.2. Engine runs strong.  It has a turbo 400 transmission with the cast iron transfer case. This is a very tight pickup for its age. It has had new ball joints and a couple new u-joints in the last 2000 miles. It also has a gear reduction starter. The automatic glow plugs work. It could use new tires, they are not much. Also it has one battery getting bad but the other is new. It has a 5th wheel ball that can be taken in and out and a receiver hitch. There is a salvage mark on the title. THERE WAS NO FRAME DAMAGE. It was just the front fender, grille, and bumper that was damaged. The insurance company totaled it because of the high price of GM replacement parts for this generation of pickup. It runs and shifts great and starts good when cold.

The pickup has been sitting in a garage for the last 3 years. I have it out and running now but will not guarantee there are no issues from sitting but there are none that I know of. This is by no means a perfect pickup but is above average and I have described it the best I can. You are buying a 28 year old pickup so don't expect 5 year old condition. Please read the description carefully before bidding. If you have any questions at all or would like to look at it please call me at 507-220-5242.

GM warning 800,000 owners that their cars may need oil changes more frequently than they say

Fri, 05 Apr 2013

The days of changing your engine oil every 3,000 miles are long gone thanks to most cars having automatic oil monitoring systems, but about 800,000 General Motors vehicles apparently have incorrect monitoring software that is leading to premature engine component wear. According to Autoweek, certain 2010-2012 Buick LaCrosse, Regal, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain models equipped with 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines could be going too long in between oil changes resulting in a higher-than-normal number of warranty claims for the engine's balance chain. The balance chain links the balance shaft to the crankshaft, and a worn one can produce higher noise levels.
As a fix, GM dealers will be reprogramming the software for the monitors in an effort to reduce the interval between oil changes, which varies based on driving habits and conditions. Through February 2015, the software update will be done at no cost to vehicle owners, but since this is not a recall, after that point, it will be up to the discretion of dealers as to whether or not they will charge for the service. What isn't immediately clear is whether GM plans on giving assistance to out-of-warranty customers who are experiencing engine issues from the worn chain.

Watch this creative way to pull a truck's engine

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

Living in an apartment complex has its benefits, but for shade-tree mechanics who like/need to work on their own cars, it definitely has a number of disadvantages. Relatively simple tasks such as brake jobs and oil changes are difficult when you don't have dedicated driveway space, to say nothing of more in-depth repairs... like pulling an engine, for example.
For these types of challenges, a little ingenuity and plenty of muscle are needed to get the job done. Scroll down to watch these four men snatch the V8 out of a Chevrolet K1500 using nothing but a chain, landscape timber and good ol' fashioned brute strength. Good work, gentlemen.

Race Recap: 2013 Twelve Hours of Sebring, cakewalk up front, grindfest out back [w/spoilers]

Tue, 19 Mar 2013

This year's 12 Hours of Sebring wasn't exactly a foregone conclusion because we're still talking about racing, and anything can happen when the speeds are as high as the adrenaline and the desire. But we're still talking about Audi bringing it's two top-spec racers - and its huge budget and its nearly neurotic attention to detail - to a race that it uses as a test bed for The 24 Hours of Le Mans and as a way to open the endurance racing season with a victory.
Besides, 12 hours is a long time, especially at Sebring, and things didn't go all Audi's way. On top of that, although it was a pretty quiet race, behind the Audis things got even grimier, with plenty of battles, plenty of mechanical issues, and the new BMW Z4 GTE and Viper GTS-R being race tested. Oh, and that brand new chromed-out DeltaWing...
