I am re-listing this because EBAY cancelled the first listing due to some loser who was bidding with someone else's account. Sorry to all those who honestly bid on it. Anyway, here it is again:

I am the third owner of this very nice Chevy pickup. I bought it from a friend who bought it from his neighbor (the original owner) so I have all the history on the truck. The original owner bought it for his wife while they were on a trip in Nevada, but it has always been kept here in Southern California. The wife died shortly after they bought the truck so it didn't get much use except that the man drove it to work once a week to keep it maintained. He put a rebuilt engine in it at 75,000 miles and then sold it to my friend about five years ago when it had about 83,000. My friend went all out to restore it back to like new condition, including:

New paint. Note that the truck had never been in an accident nor had any dents or rust, so there is no body filler or rust whatsoever on it. Even the bumpers are original.

Rebuilt front axle, transfer case and transmission. Warn hubs were added and the transfer case was modified so the truck is now a more economical part-time 4X4. By the way, the 4x4 works fine.

Put aftermarket rims and new BFG tires on it. I would say the tires are about 50-60% right now.

Complete brake job front and rear. The power brakes work surprisingly well for an older truck.

Added the bedliner and aftermarket grill.

Replaced the windshield. It's real nice, no cracks or pits.

The interior was also completely refurbished including, new dash pad, new headliner, new carpet, aftermarket steering wheel, and the seat was recovered.

A CD stereo with USB, IPOD control, remote control and Pyle speakers was added too.

I bought the truck in November 2011 with about 116,000 miles on it. I used it as my daily driver until a couple of weeks ago. I have a short commute. This is a really nice truck to drive around in because it has a great classic look but also has all the comforts of a modern vehicle. The power windows, power locks, air conditioning and heat all work great. All of the gauges work. It has dual gas tanks and the selector switch works. The truck starts easy, shifts good, has lots of power and stops well. Since I have had it I replaced the heater core, the radiator and the water pump. The radiator and the heater core both started leaking around the same time, shortly after I bought it. The water pump started leaking six months later. Note that the truck never overheated (nor does it now), it's just that I noticed small water leaks and fixed them right away. I tuned it up a couple of months ago and rotated the tires and checked the brakes a couple of weeks ago. Also, at some point I replaced the window weatherstripping on the driver side because it was making a whistling sound. It's nice and quiet now. I have the weatherstripping for the other side and it will go with the truck. Finally, I added the bumper hitch ball (2 inch) and trailer wiring appropriate for a boat (4 wire flat). I towed my jet boat with it once and it did fine even up the grade with the air on.

There are three minor issues with the truck that I can recall right now: 1) The cruise control does not work. I never even tried it until a few days ago, so I have no idea what's wrong with it. 2) The horn doesn't work. I believe it is the switch or the relay because the fuse and the horn itself both check out fine. 3) One of the wheel studs is broken off. I was going to repair it the next time it needed brakes, but it doesn't need brakes yet so I haven't done it. You should also be aware that while this truck looks really nice, it does have some small dings, scratches, etc. The imperfections don't show up very well in the pics, probably because of the white paint.

Some other good stuff to know: I have the original owner's manual for the truck. The truck passed the California smog test on 2-4-13 and it's good for 60 days so if you're going to register this in California you won't need to worry about it passing smog. Finally, note that I expect to be paid in cash, upon pickup, within 7 days after the close of the auction. I will not ship the truck, the buyer will need to pick it up (or send someone else to pick it up) in Simi Valley, California. Also note that I am selling this truck As-Is. While I feel that truck is in great condition and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere, we all know that vehicles break down from time to time. So if it breaks after you buy it, then it's your problem. If you want to come out and look at the truck in person feel free to contact me through EBAY messages and we can set up a time that works for both of us.

Thanks for looking and have a great day.

800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.

Watch this creative way to pull a truck's engine

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

Living in an apartment complex has its benefits, but for shade-tree mechanics who like/need to work on their own cars, it definitely has a number of disadvantages. Relatively simple tasks such as brake jobs and oil changes are difficult when you don't have dedicated driveway space, to say nothing of more in-depth repairs... like pulling an engine, for example.
For these types of challenges, a little ingenuity and plenty of muscle are needed to get the job done. Scroll down to watch these four men snatch the V8 out of a Chevrolet K1500 using nothing but a chain, landscape timber and good ol' fashioned brute strength. Good work, gentlemen.

The story of the 2014 Chevrolet SS: "Luxury, power, refinement, handling"

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

Not including the women and men who built it, the 2014 Chevrolet SS has only been seen in person by a piddling number of people - fewer humans than would fill the gymnasium at a high school volleyball game. Not including the men and women who built it, no one has driven it. Even so, it is already saddled with two controversies: the way it looks and the way it shifts.
First to that shifting. Did we love the last Americanized Holden, the awesomely sportsome Pontiac G8 GXP, and its six-speed manual? Of course. Do we wish the SS came with a six-speed manual? Of course. But we'd like a toboggan to come with a manual transmission. We'd put a manual transmission on a weasel if we could because we're just wired that way; if it moves, it should come with a stick and a clutch. Or at least the option.
Let's climb down off the ledge, though. We haven't driven the SS and we have no idea how good (or not) the automatic is. And the Hobson's Choice in transmissions when it comes to sport sedans like the BMW M5, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and Jaguar XFR-S and, oh yeah, cars-that-really-should-have-manuals like the Audi R8 and Nissan GT-R and Porsche 918 and every single Lamborghini and Ferrari, for instance, hasn't stopped us from enjoying what is clearly the gruesome, dual-clutched demise of Western automotive civilization. Because in spite of our ululations at the dying of the six-speed light, we understand.
