1972 Chevrolet Blazer 2-door 5.7l 350 4wd Manual Trans Convertible Soft Top on 2040-cars
US $4,500.00
Year:1972
Mileage:162000
Color:
body seems to have been painted in the
last decade at least
Location:
Strawberry Plains, Tennessee, United States
I am reselling a 1972 Chevrolet Blazer
2-Door 5.7L 350 4WD Manual Trans Convertible Soft Top that I recently purchased
from ebay.
The previous owner did not advertise
clearly or disclose some key items about this vehicle and I know I will take a
loss on this.
This would be a great truck for do a
full restoration, but it was more than I was anticipating.
I wanted something that I could
functionally use more or less as-is when I got it and work on it over the next
several years, and this didn't quite meet my expectations
I will not even show exactly what the
previous sellers communicated as I think it is very misleading. I have included
a vast list of pros/cons of this truck.
I don't want anyone to not have a good
idea of what they are purchasing. I do not know the history of this vehicle, and
there are probably other pros/cons that I do not yet know. Feel free to ask
questions, and I will do my best to answer what I can. I have a clean & clear title from state of Tennessee for this truck that will be signed over to the winning bidder.
Here are the
Positives:
- Confirmed as a 350 engine by engine serial number. Starts easy and runs pretty
good and seems very strong (I have 2 other V8 trucks that seem very weak in
comparison)
- Manual locking Hubs and manual transfer-case 4wheel
drive, all seem to work. Jumps around on pavement anyways!
- Aluminum Eldebrock intake
- Eldebrock 4 barrel Carburetor
- Dual Headers and exhaust
- Soft top
- Nice tires and aluminum wheels. 33 x 12.5 General
Grabber AT2. Have good tread left and don't show bad signs of ageing or dry
rot.
- I think gas tank has been replaced in past with
plastic. Either way, it look to be in great shape.
- Possibly a 2.5-3" lift kit. The blocks under the rear
springs measure about that much.
- 3 on the Tree shifter was converted to a floor
shifter
- External body looks decent for its age except what is
listed in the Con section.
- Passenger fender and fenderwell seem very
new
- Driver fender and fender well are in great shape (must
have been replaced at some point years ago)
- Passenger door is decent shape, and probably a keeper
if doing a restore. Opens and closes well.
- The exterior body seems to have been painted in the
last decade at least (originally blue - now white) and is not bad looking
besides a few rust areas starting to show and driver lower door area listed
below
- INCLUDED in sale - new weld on replacement rocker
panels (both sides), new black floorboard carpet kit ($300 OER- TB14201B4C), new
B piller lower replacement panel for driver side (see pictures)
- *recent new windshield and dash pad (both look in good
shape)
- *recent Cam Timing Chain
*Note: These were just reported by
previous seller, I do not know actual condition other than what I can
see
Here are the Cons (in rough order of
importance):
- Transmission grinds some going from 2nd to 3rd. Don't know
the issue (synchronizer maybe?), but obviously needs something done to it.
- Driver Door is very difficult to open and close. Its
as if the door is too wide for the opening.
- The driver side B piller is not very stable and can
move back and forth. Needs rusted supports replaced. This adds to the door
problem
- Floor board area has had lots of patch panels in the
past and is ready for new ones in many places. Worst places being near rocker
panels, under and behind main seats.
- Both doors need new window regulators. Both are
missing interior arm pads and, cranks, and there is only 1 door opening handle
that has to be used for both doors. The driver & passenger vent turn out
window needs repair or replacement as it it not secured on the bottom and cannot
be left open
- Several of the cab support boxes near the outside of
the body are rusted out and need replacements
- Driver side door lower exterior needs to have new
skin, or new door due to significant rust.
- Right Turning radius seems poor. Left may be normal,
but don't really know. I have never drove one of these models, but my 79 blazer
has a much better turning radius than this truck.
- Rear shocks frame mounts have been altered by someone
(maybe during reconstruction of rear bed area (see below). Its not the best
welding/fabrication I have seen.
- Soft top is fairly thin and not high quality. It was
advertised as new, but it has some broken buttons and one of the zipper slides
is missing.
- The rear "bed" area (including back seat area) has
been replaced with a steel plate sometime in the past. It is rusty, but due to
being so thick, it does not need replace. several of the corners in the bed area
are significantly rusted (not quite as bad as the front cab area described
above)
- The tail gate is bent some in the middle area - bend
is from inside pushing out (probably something too heavy put or dropped on the
tailgate when down)
- Dual exhaust turns out in front of rear tires and goes
over leaf springs. The springs have been compressed enough the past to partially
collapse the exhaust. The 90 degree bend also seems it would restrict exhaust.
Engine power is still strong, but I would think these exhaust restricts need to
be improved.
- No center console. No radio, no speakers (that I can
find), Needs new light knob and light switch nut is missing that secures to
dash
- Passenger side mirror will not hold its position
anymore. I think it will have to be replaced.
- Driver side hood hinge is missing a rivet. I have semi
repaired with a loose bolt so it will open and close ok.
- Hood skin is loose from some support members. Need to
be re-sealed eventually, but not a big problem
- Truck used to have some molding around the outside and
has been removed. You can see some of the old adhesive or holes in the paint and
pictures
- buckets seats are not original and only partially
secured to floorboard (due to previous owner starting repairs). Some fab work
would be needed to properly mount them as these seats were not designed to mount
in a blazer. They have cheep seat covers on them and probably need to be
recovered (or replaced if doing a restore). Rear bench seat seems original and
is in usable shape. Would need recovered if restoring.
- Driver side does not have functioning seat belt. Looks
like some racing style lap seat belt was added in the past, driver side missing
one portion. Passenger side may be ok.
- Old carpet is gone (new carpet kit in box included).
No door jam seals
- Heater cables and knobs are partially removed due to
needing replaced (count on buying new cables and knobs at the least. May have to
buy a little more than that to get it working
- Does not have original fan switch I think. Has been
replaced with 3 position toggle switch. Fan switch is not completely wired up
and therefore does not work.
- Glove box interior missing (door is still there, but
inside insert is missing)
- Horn functions, but is missing the second horn under
the hood (passenger side missing, driver side works fine.)
- Looks like it has replacement aftermarket antenna. It
is attached, but the fixture is not as secure as I would like it. I tightened
it, but you probably would want to replace it.

It looks like there some changes in store for the Chevrolet Camaro - the only thing is that we just don't know what Chevy has up its sleeve. Looking at these spy shots, we'd initially be inclined to think that there is just a minor facelift or a new special edition, but upon closer inspection, there are a few oddities about this car that definitely have us intrigued.
The most obvious difference on this prototype is the slightly restyled front fascia with a smaller lower air inlet and the two-bar grille. Then we get to some of the car's mysterious details. For starters, this fascia has the SS vent above the grille, but it looks to be blocked off. Granted this could just be a one-off piece used for testing. What really piqued our interest was at the rear of the car where it has quad exhaust outlets that are used on the ZL1. Could this be the LS7-powered Camaro that we reported on back in December?
At this point, your guess is as good as ours as to what we're looking at here, so let us know in the comments what you think this could be.

We've been on the fence with NASCAR for some time now. On one hand, it's some of the closest racing anywhere in motorsports, with actual passing and door-handle-to-door-handle action as a matter of course. But on the other, it's become template racing - a personality-driven sport more about the drivers than any sort of loyalty to a particular automaker. The Car Of Tomorrow format really rammed that message home, with a racecar's identity coming down to little more than headlamp stickers slapped on the nose. That's not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but we've wondered for some time what's in it for the automakers, who pay big money to stay in a series that has had little increasingly little do with street car sales, let alone innovation.
Apparently General Motors was beginning to wonder the same thing. In a new ESPN report, Rick Hendrick, team owner of Hendrick Motorsports, suggests that GM would have seriously considered leaving NASCAR if it wasn't for the move away from the COT to the new Gen 6 racer. According to Hendrick, GM North America boss Mark Reuss spearheaded the charge away from the 2007 COT and toward a racecar with clearer automaker ties - cars like the new Chevrolet SS racer shown above. Learn more about the fight for a closer-to-production look in the ESPN story at the link.
Now, if we could just get more rear-wheel drive V8 coupes into showrooms....

The Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo is the rare concept car that salutes a seminal moment in history, yet also borders on science fiction.
Revealed Wednesday at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the concept uses the name of one of Chevy's historic racing partnerships, with Chaparral Racing, which dates to the 1960s. Chaparrals raced successfully at a range of levels, including IndyCar, Trans-Am and SCCA competition.
But the history ends there, as the concept's main purpose is as a racecar in a downloadable update for the PlayStation 3 game Gran Turismo 6.
