This beautiful '55 Chevy has been in the same family since the car was purchased new. My Great Aunt and Uncle purchased this car new from Bates Chevrolet in the Bronx, N.Y. on December 30th, 1954. They then gave the car to my Father in 1974. He used it until 1978 when he "retired" the car and put it into his garage on Long Island. There it stayed until 1987 when he gave it to me. I kept the car garaged and got it back to good running condition in the mid-1990's. In 2006 I was finally able to get the exterior of the car done properly. Exterior work was completed in 2009.

Exterior paints are Chevrolet Silver and Corvette Blue. All of the major chrome was also redone and is in great shape. We also added left and right side mirrors for safety. All lights and signals work fine. We even left the "Bates" badge on the trunk.

The straight 6 engine is almost completely original and runs beautifully. Only 97,200 original miles! It has the always fun to drive 3-speed on the column. Transmission was replaced in 2006, new hoses and generator just last year. The gas gauge is not working right now.

The interior is also completely original, right down to the upholstery. Yes, it could use some love at this point. A nice opportunity to redo the interior to your liking. Air controls and cigarette lighter work fine. Horn ring is missing (cracked and broke in the 90's) and the radio makes noise but does not play. The right rear window has a hairline crack in it.

Fortunately, I have a lot of documentation for this car. I have the original purchase agreement, the bill of sale, the owner service policy, and something called "Car Papers" where my great Uncle kept track of gas usage, oil changes, and general maintenance. I even have the original key.

I hate to let this car go, but a recent move has made it a necessity. It's a real eye catcher and tons of fun to drive.

C7 Corvette makes inaugural ad appearance in Chevy's first spot with new slogan

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

Chevrolet's "Runs Deep" tagline has finally been run into the ground, replaced with the Bowtie brand's "Find New Roads" slogan that's part of parent General Motors' plan to unify its everyday brand's marketing efforts worldwide. The new Chevrolet campaign was ushered in on prime time last night during the Grammy Awards on CBS, and the first spot, a 90-second full-line ad, also marks the first appearance of the 2014 Corvette Stingray in a commercial.
Being a full-line ad, the commercial is composed of vignettes centered on different vehicles in the brand's lineup. The all-new 2014 Impala also makes its first commercial appearance in dapper fashion, and time is spent on a skateboarding Sonic and a bouquet of brightly colored Spark hatchbacks driven by fashionable women. The ad starts and ends with Chevy's green halo car, the Volt, along with a young girl with her robotic dog (yes, really).
Chevrolet's "Runs Deep" campaign got off to a rocky start in the fall of 2010, but it did last for a couple of years with some tweaks. This new one, "Find New Roads" seems more intent on drawing new customers into the fold than the outgoing tagline, which seemed to play more toward the brand faithful. It admittedly reminds us more than a little the short-lived "Find Your Own Road" Saab motto (which, we note, was conceived while the Swedish brand was under GM's control), but no matter, we still think it's got more long-term potential than "Runs Deep."

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible is the track car for sun worshippers

Fri, 11 Apr 2014

Supercharged, 6.2-liter V8? Check. Seven-speed manual? Check. Obsession with weight? Check.
What did you expect when Chevrolet said it was bringing a new Corvette variant to the 2014 New York Auto Show? Maybe a sticker and trim package, like the C6 Corvette Grand Sport or a tie-in deal like the Black Widow car from Chicago? On the opposite end, maybe there was an even more hardcore Z06 waiting in the wings. Who knew?

GM recalling 118K Colorado, Canyon pickups over missing hood latches

Thu, 20 Dec 2012

General Motors has announced a recall of 118,800 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks due to the possibility of secondary hood latches not being installed at the time of manufacture. The affected vehicles are from the 2010, 2011 and 2012 model years, all of which were built between November 9, 2009 and August 28, 2012.
According to the official National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report, these trucks fail to "comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 113, 'Hood Latch System.' The hood may be missing the secondary hood latch." In other words, owners of these trucks could find their vehicles' hoods opening unexpectedly while driving.
The official recall campaign is expected to begin on January 17, 2013. Dealers will inspect the affected pickups and if a secondary hood latch is not present, one will be installed free of charge. Scroll down to read the official NHTSA report.
